What stood out and overshadowed the sushi, which was actually quite good, were the dirty sticky tables. The hygiene was in such a state that I didn't want to place my phone on the table. The place itself has been around for years. Update needed and serious hygiene practices a must. Man, the best thing I can say is we didn't get sick. Interior is run down but cute in a family joint kinda way. Smells clean. We were seated quickly. Started with the Japanese Fish and Chips which were absolutely bizarre. It comes with enough underseasoned yam tempura fries for 6 people and some bland tempura tuna. Regular tartar sauce on the side. Nothing special but alright. The tuna sashimi came completely frozen on the inside. Rock solid. Asked for ponzu and was given oily, greasy sesame salad dressing. That was on the tuna tataki which was bizarre. At least the tataki tuna salad wasn't frozen. My scallop and tobiko nigiri was again, frozen. Each scallop was rock hard and not defrosted. Their "house miso soup" is obviously the regular packet. Weird let down, why hype it up if it's nothing special? This place just doesn't really know what it's doing. Would never return. read more

Glad to see that my favourite sushi place on the Shore has opened up again. Every time I came here it was for their lunch combo special of $9.50 where you have a choice of almost 30 mix and match items such as agedashi tofu, veggie teriyaki, shrimp tempura roll, and gyoza. The mix and match combo also includes a bowl of miso soup. Without a doubt, it'll satisfy all types of palates. The combo offer is good until 5 pm. Service was prompt and friendly. There's free parking available and is just a few doors down from Save On Foods shopping plaza off Marine Drive and Pemberton Ave. Dining hours are 11:30 am - 8 pm from Monday to Thursday & on Saturdays; 11:30 am to 9 pm on Fridays; 4 pm to 8 pm on Sundays. It's my go-to sushi place whenever I am on the Shore. You'll get good value and service here! read more

I decided to venture across the street from my regular go-to, Sushi Town, to be disappointed. I ordered the spicy salmon sashimi and the negitoro roll to-go which I ended up eating right away. It took them over an hour to make my order, and the sashimi was served warm. The spicy sauce for the sashimi was spicy mayo, which didn't taste very good with the sashimi. Thankfully the negitoro was a bit better than the sashimi but only decent. I unfortunately don't think I'll be returning. read more

Used to come here back when I was much younger. Decided to come back today because I was coming around the corner here with my mom and man did it become bland.... :( This place looks okay and the food was definitely alright but you can definitely do MUCH better for the same price, if not, for better value. The one bone I have to pick with these guys is that they kept getting my mom's udon order wrong. My mom ordered the tempura udon. First it was the wrong order, they got her the chicken instead. When they fixed her order, all they did was that they took the chicken out (she still ended up finding a left over piece of chicken in her udon) and gave her the tempura. Sadly at that point, the udon soup was nearly cold or slightly hotter room temperature. I'm sorry but if you screwed up like this that often in a single sitting, stop trying to fix the problem by horribly scooping up the item (and ended up screwing that up too), and just cook them a NEW batch. I mean, they're not really gonna lose THAT much money by doing it this way anyways. While I don't mind coming back here later on but it'll have to be for a special reason. Trust me, you're better off going to sushi town beside the McDonald's across the street. read more

A friend suggested this place. They seem to do a lot of take out and I was just another take out customer to ad to their list. Hey that's not such a bad thing. I ordered the California roll because it's so popular everywhere and I often use it as a measure for rolled sushi because most places will roll it cheap and use too much rice. They do a pretty good job actually rolling sushi! Truthfully I was kinda impressed. I will have to try nigiri next time and see what else is available that tickles my fancy. I've been coming to this restaurant off & on for many years. Their lunch special offers lots of choices which I appreciate and the food has always been good. Had the agedashi tofu today and it was superb...lightly coated and very crisp. Found the sauce a little sweeter than in the past. Today's experience was not the best I've had at this restaurant. We sat directly across from the sushi bar and, unfortunately, could not avoid listening to one of the chefs, John, who talked loudly the whole time we were there. It would be much more pleasant if he either lowered his voice or reduced the chatter. It spoiled my experience today. read more

This is one of my favourite comfort sushi places! It's family owned and operated, and has some of the most consistently reliable and yummy rolls. The best part of the restaurant, hand's down, is the sushi chef Jon who is such a happy presence behind the counter. The average Yelp rating here is totally misleading! So bland here! Maybe this part of Vancouver doesn't have good sushi, but this is a 2-3 star place. The price is cheap (all sushi pieces under $3) but you get what you pay for. Ordered a variety of sushi pieces, spicy salmon and negitoro rolls, one of their specialty rolls and tempura. The specialty roll was very small considering the price of $9. It was marginally bigger than the regular rolls. The main issue was the blandness of everything. The fish basically had no taste. The specialty roll with mango/crab would normally be one of my favorite combos, but they must have used the most unripe mangos around! It was very busy when I was around but honestly I would keep driving and go somewhere else. read more

Le GF and I went here on our first date years ago. Since then it's changed ownership at least once, but the food has gotten better in that time. I really like sitting at the counter to chat with head chef John who is super friendly, and a die-hard Canucks fan, so this is usually where I'll go to watch games during the season. read more

Good sushi but be prepared to wait to get it. Whether you are dining in or taking out, they are so understaffed that you will wait for at least 30-40 minutes in peak times. I figured this was a one time thing, but it has happened multiple times now, so I will not be going back. I recommend going to Sushi Town across the street. read more

Well! This place looks pretty classy, and has a "daily specials" board posted outside to lure you in. I think I had toro, and spicy salmon sashimi. The toro was horrible. I should NOT have eaten it, because it was warmish. The spicy salmon was good, but different. It was really orange looking, and mixed with tobiko and little chunks of avocado. The last reviewer was right. They misrepresent their prices. The menus all say one thing, then they charge you more. I paid the tab, then told them about it. So we order from there constantly and the quality is always amazing. But yesterday, the crab seemed a bit off in one of my rolls and decided to throw it away. I called and they refunded it without questioning it. Today, they delivered the same roll, fresh and delicious as an apology. It tasted great and they've just won a customer for life. read more

Not bad for north van. they have a good lunch deal, you pay 7$ and you get to pick three items from a modest list. the price goes up for the rest of the menu. i got a mexican inspired roll, spicy tuna roll rapped in some avacado, chopped tomatos and tobiko. it was very good and the rest of the menu is fresh and good. read more

Absolutely disappointing. Ordered delivery on Just Eat (which had a mandatory 10% tip for the driver on top of a delivery fee). Portions were extremely small, sashimi was ridiculously tiny ($12.50 for 7 tiny pieces) and old tasting. Specialty rolls were no bigger than regular rolls but at a premium price. Yum!!! I can't say enough good things about the hot kiss roll, I am totally addicted! Staff is very friendly but I am only giving 4 stars because, depending on when you go, it is SLOW. Even take out takes forever. Often you can hit them when they aren't so busy and it's fine. But, the sushi is fresh and delicious. Every time I am on the north shore I want to eat here.
