Yamada Sushi and Poke has been on my radar for quite some time and today was finally the day I had a chance to have their sushi. The delivery was smooth and the anticipation of a new, at least to me, sushi place was exciting. An extensive list of options was available on their menu but we opted for the Eel avocado roll, a spicy Tuna roll, Yellowtail scallion roll, a Dragon roll and Miso soup. That was the right amount of food but I could have easily eaten more as this may be my new favorite sushi restaurant in Naperville. That says that a lot because there are many very good sushi options in Naperville. The Miso soup however was a small portion that I could also have ordered a portion three times the size and that still wouldn't have been enough especially since it was very good, just not as hot as I like which is understandable due to delivery and not a dine in order. I'll definitely keep Yamada on my list of must visit sushi restaurants. From the selection and quality I hope Yamada will stick around for awhile. read more

BRB just found a new restaurant to add to my personal Top 10 Places for sushi in the Chicago Burbs list! I came here on a Sunday around 11:30am with my sister because we were in the area already and wanted some sushi. This was one the few sushi spots that was open so we decided to give it a try. We were very pleasantly surprised! We had the place to ourselves, no one came in to dine-in at all throughout our time here besides a few pick up orders. The service here was spectacular. Our server was SO attentive and friendly. She was such a sweetheart. The space was clean, well kept, and medium-sized with ample parking in front. The sushi... LORDDDDD! Truly one of the freshest sushi I've ever had. The actual sushi roll options were all fantastic and it was very hard to choose only a few rolls. They also have Naruto rolls which I don't see too often near me so I was so happy to order them! We got the fantasy roll, Naruto roll, spicy girl roll, classic Alaskan rolls, Kani salad, and onion soup. Everything was incredible, down to the $1.25 onion soup (my sister got it and I took a sip of it. She loved it.) Everything was unbelievably reasonably priced, as well. We were actually headed somewhere else for dinner, but I happened to spot Yamada as we were driving nearby. I suggested we pull into the plaza to take a peek. It didn't look busy at all on a Friday night, so we popped in. Yamada is tucked away in a big strip mall, so there's plenty of parking. Inside the restaurant is quaint. They kept the design simple. Not a ton of seating, though. The service was very friendly. There was just one lady taking/serving orders, and we only saw one sushi chef. Thankfully it wasn't too busy, so our food came in very reasonable timing. We ordered onion soup, sashimi appetizer, Crazy Tuna roll, Coconut Island roll, and Bumble Bee roll. The onion soup was decent. It was served in a cute bowl, although with a plastic spoon, which took away from the aesthetics. I liked that it was a nice small bowl of soup and only cost something like $2.25, so it didn't fill us up too much before the main food arrived. The sashimi sampler included six pieces of fish: two salmon, two tuna, and two pieces of some white fish. Everything tasted great. All three rolls were very good. I was really excited about Coconut Island since I love coconut, and it was good, but the Bumble Bee roll exceed our expectations. The Crazy Tuna was unique because it was topped with seared seasoning, providing a nice smoky flavor. Pricing was very reasonable. Turned out to be a great place for date night. read more

all i have to say this is that it's super worth the price and for the quality of food. first thing when i walked in there wasn't many people inside maybe one other person but i won't judge as a first time customer. menu had lots to choose from and server was friendly. i had ordered a house salad and spicy shrimp for the app and wow the ginger sauce was very delicious and shrimp were cooked to perfection. the sauce was like a bang bang sauce. when it came to rolls i had ordered the coconut island roll, kiss roll and spicy crabmeat roll. all were so fresh and tasty. i don't mind mango and coconut with rice when eating tacos so didn't think it would be any different in a sushi roll and it was just as good. will be coming back to this location. read more

I have visited 3 or 4 times since my last review. I have always stuck to poke, either spicy tuna or salmon and I don't mix. The two scoop poke bowl is generous and filling but the three scoop is mega sized. It's clean here and fresh looking. The product is also fresh. Service is always pleasant and the dine in option looks comfortable and modern. Lots of light and my more recent experience has been so much better. I've not tried sushi and not really interested because I always get mine to go and "to go" sushi doesn't appeal to me. They're on my regular radar! read more

This is one of the strangest reviews I've written: Agadashi tofu, spicy tuna, California, and spider rolls - all solid 3.5 to 4. Make sure you ask for no mayo on your spicy tuna or it'll be doused. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the server was attentive and friendly. The bathroom and hallway were filthy. I didn't go until after the meal, or we would have left. Everything was dirty from the floor up. That led me to check the health violations, which weren't reassuring. We won't return because of the lack of cleanliness. read more

When you enter, the door is about 30 feet from the sushi making area. The guy yells out " pick up"? Yes!!! That's the extent of the conversation. Now I'm standing there wondering. It would have been as simple as " it will be another few minutes" Nothing! 7 minutes later a young lady comes from the back with my bag. That was a long 7 minutes! I decided to try this sushi restaurant one day for lunch and I was very impressed and happy with my decision. I ordered the Aurora roll which was delicious. Honestly shrimp tempura and spicy crabmeat is an unmatched duo. The tempura was really crunchy and the sauces delicious. I also ordered the Naruto roll because it had a lot of fish in the description and I wanted something that felt healthier to contrast the other roll. I really didn't realize it didn't have rice but it was still really good. Perfect on a warmer day, it was really fresh and light feeling. The sauce it is served with makes the roll, even a light dip brought so much flavor. Would definitely come again. The hostess was also very welcoming and excited for me to try the rolls :) read more

This place has THE BEST house ginger dressing. I could drink it, honestly. My new obsession is a poke bowl over mixed greens with the house dressing YUM. Their crab rangoons are also exemplary. I haven't tried many of their rolls yet, but the quality of the fish in the bowls is great so it's just a matter of time and I have no doubt I'll enjoy it. I told the host i would like my order to go & she brought out a menu for me to review & a sheet to order my bowl. You choose a base, such as rice, organic greens, etc. You have a choice of 2 options, regular (2 scoops) or large, (3 scoops). There are a variety of protein to choose & I opted for the salmon & ahi tuna. You can choose up to 5 toppings. I'm assuming you can choose more, but may need to pay? You also get to choose a sauce & a topping. They finished in less than 5 mins & I opened it before I left the parking lot, but I was a bit disappointed in the size. I thought they could have at least filled up the bowl a little more & I also felt it lacked a little flavor. I chose spicy mayo & some house sauce that contained soy sauce & sesame seeds or something. So therefore the 4 star. However, I felt for the amount of food items you get, it was a reasonable price. I ordered to go at the front desk and the hostess repeated everything after me (hotate scallop, unagi eel and maguro tuna). I was given my food in a bag stapled shut. When I got home, no scallop, and the receipt (she'd asked if I needed one; I always say yes) wasn't itemized so I can't say for sure whether I was charged for it or not since I don'trecall what each piece cost. Also, the tuna tasted VERY fishy and...warm? As if it had been sitting out. I don't live far away so it wasn't a long car ride home, so that wasn't the culprit. They gave me brown rice when I asked for sushi rice (I even called them to confirm my order) the salmon was very soft, almost TOO soft.. not to mention, I might've gotten 5 salmon pieces that were cut up very ugly and almost ripped up. Some were cubed, some were just stringy long pieces, and then a lot of "crumbed" salmon pieces.. disappointing. I really hate to give a bad review, but oy, this was not a good experience. We ordered online for a quick take out lunch. The website said 15 minutes. When they called to confirm, they said it would be 10 minutes. Well, we were sitting in the lot waiting. It actually took almost 45 minutes. I wouldn't mind if that were the wait, but there was no reason not to tell us when they knew we were there that the wait was so much longer. I really wanted to like this place, and we understand that sometimes things get behind. It would have been worth a lot to be honest when we came in to check or to comp an appetizer or do something to acknowledge the long wait. When we did get the food, it was ok. The agedashi tofu was the highlight. The sushi rolls are very small in diameter and you get 6 pieces, not 8, which I thought odd. However, we had one spicy tuna roll that seemed off in taste and smell. After biting into it, it tasted really odd. Didn't eat the rest of it. I tried a few sushi places and this place did a great job in using Not chewy seaweed wrappings for the roll, which is a great plus when I eat Sushi. Another must try is their salad sauce! Amazingly fresh and best in taste, they created that on their own secret and healthy recipe, not as high calories as other commonly seen salad dressings. I asked the friendly waitress/cashier to put sauces (house sauce and spicy mayo) in the containers so I can mix it in myself. 2 scoops bowl -$10.95 (I got this size!) 3 scoops bowl -$14.95 This order includes a miso soup. They made my food quickly(in and out less than 10 minutes ). I love quick services. The food overall was pretty good. I wished they put a little bit more fish. Otherwise, I like it. Then he begins to yell to someone else. A woman comes out a few minutes later and politely opens the door. The man yells - like seriously hollers - at her as she hurries away. My friends and I all customized poke bowls, and the waitress was so kind and patient with us (even allowing us to taste the different sauces before we made a choice!)
