Yamada Sushi keeps getting better and better. I've been a regular for some time and I try to go satisfy my sushi craving weekly. Food is fresh and delicious. I've tried a lot of their rolls, sashimi, appetizers, soups, etc, and never had a bad experience. Service is awesome and prompt, and everyone is very nice. The restaurant is very clean and cozy and it is Byob. There are several wine shops right on Park Ave, a few blocks from Yamada. Their prices are awesome and they have a great lunch special menu. What a cute place! I had a great time here with a friend who was looking for something midway between our houses and decided to try it on the strength of our fellow yelpers' recs. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the sushi. Service is not terribly intuitive ( had to ask for water, no 2 bite check-in, etc.) but exceedingly polite. The ginger tea was delicious and complementary noodle appetizer and ice cream dessert bumped this from 4 to 5 stars. BYOB is always a plus with me too. I'll definitely go again! read more

Fav sushi spot in the area. Always tastes very fresh and all the flavors pop, service is great (they usually toss something for free if you dine in) and the ambience since the remodeling is nice. LOVE this restaurant. I've been coming here since high school and they've only gotten better. If you're a foodie, this is definitely a must try. The service is great and the food, even better! Delicious food, friendly staff. Dined in and the waiter brought out a free appetizer and free dessert "just because" . What a nice touch! Everything was delicious and the service was quick. The service was a little indifferent on a Wednesday night. They did not have toro, uni or quail egg (all on the menu) which is understandable when going to a neighborhood sushi place. I really like the lighting in the restaurant, very dark with spot lighting over the sushi bar and each table. Decent crowd throughout our time. I ordered the Chirashi, the rice was delicious, the tuna was slightly weird in color but still tasty; overall decent selection of fish, i would have liked some octopus for some texture. The lady ordered a roll (can't remember) with spicy mayo, it was alot more spicy than other places, but really delicious. We were given a complimentary scallion pancake which was salty and savory, great last course. Went here with my boyfriend for a date night. It was a small little sushi place about a 10 minute walk from our apt. Such a cute area of Rutherford. BYOB so we brought a bottle of wine. There was only one other couple in there when we arrived so they let us sit wherever we wanted. Started with shumai and then chose 3 of the special rolls: Mexican roll, volcano roll and wasabi roll. All were delish, but i think I liked the volcano roll the most because i like a little crunch :) I was expecting the wasabi roll to be very spicy, but it wasnt as hot as i was hoping. This place is seriously fantastic!!! I've been coming here for years, mostly on special occasions, and the sushi and sashimi are always fresh. Last night, I went there for my cousin's birthday with a large group - 8 people in all - and the place, despite being on the smaller side, was able to accommodate us comfortably. We ordered a platter of assorted sushi and a platter of assorted sashimi, as well as A Gi Tofu, a bowl of Udon, and miso soups. Our bellies were happy. One of my favorite things about this place is how innovative the chef's specials are. I once had fried sushi here with a side of mayo. Holy Ghosts! I felt like I've discovered something magical - like leprechauns. While the GF and I are huge fans of that "other" sushi place in town, I decided the other night that I wanted sushi that didn't involve driving the car. Glad I did! Yamada sushi is located right in the heart of Rutherford, and while it doesn't look like much from the outside, what awaits inside is a pleasant surprise! The fish is very fresh and tasty. The Miso soup is Miso-ey, and the veggie spring rolls were great. The service was great, quick, friendly. Prices were fair, maybe a little on the steeper side for some things. I like that you can sit at the bar and watch the chefs ply their trade. And as all restaurants in this silly little town, it's BYOB. I will definitely be going back! 4 Solid Stars! read more

Nice little lunch spot. Not too busy during lunch hours. Got the age-dofu which was pretty good. The pork katsu was a little too overcooked for my liking but still pretty yummy. Amazing Veggie/Vegan rolls here. I have only done delivery but I've enjoyed every order I have gotten. I like the mango tango roll even with apples inside. I like that they don't put a lot of sugary syrups or sauces on it (I had a similar item at another sushi spot and it was not good with the soupy sauce on top). Staff are nice and don't sound funny when I ask for no chopsticks or soy sauce (I like to be eco friendly and use my own). This is my favorite sushi place! The rolls are so good! My favorite roll is the Yami roll- shrimp tempura, avocado inside, topped with shredded spicy crab and crunch! It is fantastic. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new sushi spot. I came here last night for dinner. The place was crowded but we were seated immediately. We sat for about 10-15 minutes before the waiter came to take our order. We were given a free app to start (Haru Maki). Crispy, but not a lot of filling. Also had the seaweed salad which was fresh. We ordered 4 rolls: lemon tree, ichiban, Yamada and Big Lava. Sushi was fresh, delicious, and came out relatively quickly. Only down side was no deserts! I could have gone for some green tea ice cream. I will definitely order delivery in the future. Not sure if I'll go for a sit down dinner though. read more

The inside is cute and intimate, and the staff is friendly. However, we had to wait probably 15 minutes after getting seated for any attention then asked them twice for water. It wasn't that busy so I wasn't too happy with the service. The food, however, was good and their Yamada roll was delish! Tried this spot last week. We had two great rolls and some very high quality salmon. That is where it ended . I then ordered some uni and received two pieces. I dropped the first piece into my mouth and realized it was rotten. My choice was to spit it out in the middle of the restaurant or just swallow. I bit the bullet. Sent the last piece back which was confirmed bad . Of course you know where I spend the night. Sorry but taking it off my bill was not nearly enough. Either you don't know when you're fish has turned or you didn't care. No sushi chef with any integrity would have served it. read more
