Located in Kalkaska with ample parking. This restaurant has been locally owned for 43 years. Pretty impressive. This was the perfect stop for dinner before a concert at Interlochlen. There are limited restaurant options closer to Interlochlen unless we drove through Traverse City. No reservations required. Super busy, but they get people in pretty quickly. Once seated, we started off with the smoked trout and artichoke dip. The dip was fantastic! We could have used more crackers, but we finished it! For my cocktail, I enjoyed an espresso martini. For dinner, my husband and I got the Friday trout special with mushroom risotto and broccoli. My mom got the two smoked meat platter with wings and ribs. To end the night, we shared a slice of coconut cream pie. Delicious! Definitely would stop by again if we were in the area. read more

Another wonderful meal at Trout Town last weekend. Great service for our dinner party of 9 people, the server handled our table like a champ! Delicious food - loved the Frickles! My fish & chips meal was tasty, loved the tartar sauce. Brisket was pretty dang good, I think shredded would be better than slices. Great portion sizes. French fries and onion rings were yummy too. Let's start with service! Love the efficiency and welcoming atmosphere created by the staff here. The service is great! The interior is clean and nice. Really like the multiple dining areas and the garage doors to open up on a nice day. And the food is awesome! We had platter of BBQ (chicken, brisket, ribs and pulled pork) it was fantastic! Loved the mashed potatoes and seasoned veg.! Also had the cheese soup, loaded tots and the chicken avocado salad. We of course ordered way too much food as these portions are serious! But we got about 4 meals out of our leftovers! This is a gem! read more

The service was some of the worst service we have had in a restaurant. Ordered a sandwich to split and a cup of soup each. The server brought the food asked if we needed anything else. We said the soup she stated they were out of it. Had to send kids meal back ice cold. Burgers were cold. Had to keep asking for drink refills. We frequent this establishment at least once a month and have never had such a bad experience. Doubt we will be returning any time in the future. Such a shame because we have always had good service and good food. Until today. Recommend this place never again read more

I stopped by here for a business lunch after a recommendation and they did it disappoint. I was seated promptly at a flat top and ordered a cup of cheddar ale soup that was excellent. I also had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich with kettle chips that was very good. 7 craft beers available from local breweries. Daily specials. Flat top and booth seating. Friendly efficient service. Clean restroom. WiFi password provided. I would definitely recommend and return. read more

The food here was amazing! We started off with a bowl of chicken white bean chili soup. I didn't know what to expect and it was so good! My husband and I wound up sharing the bowl. Unfortunately. We then had half a slab of their ribs. They come with beans. Both were very, very tasty. We left stuffed and very satisfied with our choice of restaurant. I heartily recommend this place. read more

I've stopped at a lot of different places along this stretch of 131 over the years, and you could do a lot worse than this place. They smoke their own meat, and the brisket is quite tasty -- you can get it on a salad, in nachos, on its own, and if you are tired of brisket they also have six different kinds of reubens on Saturdays. They have a plentiful array of stuff from the kids. And our server quickly yet subtly figured out how to split up a series of kids dishes to keep them from squabbling. Just be a little careful when ordering, as some of the items are overly midwestern (the smoked trout spread just tastes like cream cheese; the brisket nachos trend a little sweet because of the BBQ sauce, etc.). But order savvily and this shouldn't be an issue. I'd happily come back. read more

My friends and I stopped here on our way to Mackinac Island . We loved it so much we also stopped on the way back home . I will say both waitresses weren't the nicest . But the food is amazing. Try the ale cheddar soup it's SO good ! read more

The place is small and feels very cozy. It's almost like eating dinner with a large family. The staff members were super friendly and checked in on you enough but not too much. The place had a lot of nice rustic decorations that brought back some nice memories. The menu has a variety of things to choose from. We chose the brisket and fish dinners. The brisket was sliced thin and has a nice smoky flavor to it. The meat was tender and had some fat still holding on for flavor. The choice of 4 different sauces just added to the flavor. The tater tots were cooked perfectly with them being crispy on the outside but not dried in the middle. The fish was flavorful and had a nice coating on them. The French fries were perfect as well. It's a small place filled with flavor and kindness. Definitely will stop in again, when able. read more

Laura was our server and I was not impressed. Me and my sister came to get dinner with our father and it took us 15 minutes for me to get my drink and then there was some problem with the lemonade so it took my sister like a total of 20 minutes to get her lemonade. We did not get any silverware, there was no one here and it took us so long to get our food. We also got to go order, and again no one was here, and it took so long for no reason. I understand that some of the things might not have been our servers fault, but she just didn't vibe very well. read more

I'm not sure how many more chances to give this place, which I seem to do every once a while with the hopes and expectations that things will change and improve. So far each time I've given this place a second chance due to its location and pleasant interior, I'm sadly disappointed as in last nights supper here. I came for the perch dinner, and when I got here I found out it was all you could eat on Thursdays night! Score! Only to take a bite into the first piece with utter disappointment! The atmosphere here is divided into 3 portions a bar area with some tables a small room with 5 tables, and what looks like a former porch thats now enclosed and holds a dozen tables. I don't mean to sound negative because this place somehow provides an unexpected charm about it. I ordered the smothered Brisket dinner. This comes with cheddar mashed potatoes. The briskets dry rub was a coffee base. Not my favorite. However it was cooked well and covered with onions and cheese was a good meal. The cheddar mashed potatoes were very good. Passing through with my parents and stopped in. Glad we did. We ordered drinks and all decided on prime rib dinner which was the Saturday night special. Came with a baked potato and dinner salad. Garden salad was fresh and crisp and a good sized portion. Prime rib was cooked perfectly and to order. 2 of us had medium rare and the other had a rare cut. Amazing flavor and a generous cut. Eat here!! We found them on Yelp and the high scores were no lie. Food was Awesome. Smoked wings appetizer with their homemade sauces- each one was so flavorful but not over powering to the smokehouse flavor. Brisket was like butter and generously portioned. I had "Not your usual Reuben" which had horsey sauce on it- deee-lish! Good for all ages, bar on one side and dining on the other. Cozy interior with upscale fisherman decor. Reviews were raving about this place being "the best in Kalkaska." Well this is the first place I've been in Kalkaska so I can't confirm it's the best but I certainly do not have any complaints. It's been a long time since we had a waitress bring a drink refill before our glass ran dry but it finally happened! Service was friendly, fast, and just generally on point! Very helpful in assisting us with menu suggestions as well. Service gets 5 stars. Cleanliness gets 5 stars as everything was very clean and well kept as far as I could see. Ambiance also gets 5 stars as the general theme is trout town and they pull of this rustic fishing feel with ease. On to the food. My husband and I enjoyed the onion rings as an appetizer and they were perfect! Not too greasy, thick cut, and perfectly crunchy exterior with great flavor. My husband ordered the pecan and panko crusted rainbow trout dinner with wild mushroom risotto and vegetables. The risotto was very slightly underdone but had good flavor. The trout was crispy, buttery, and the lemon set it off. The vegetables... well you can tell that's not where they focus their attention. Some garlic butter and Parmesan would set those off! I ordered the smoked wings and sweet potato fries. This came out with a caddy of house made sauces varying from sweet to spicy. My favorite was the Kansas City BBQ sauce. I love spicy but this one was the most mild. Even the spicy Jamaican jerk wasn't terribly spicy but the sweet and smokiness of the Kansas City was apparently just what I needed today. The sweet potato fries are more of a waffle fry but they were cooked to perfection. All in all the food was fresh, creative, and well executed. That's another 5 stars guys!! The food, service , and ambiance were great!! My dad got the ribs and thought they were phenomenal,my mom got the perch , and she said "it was really good ".!!! And I got the Sriracha chicken quesadillas and they were spot on! Our food came out within 15 minutes!!(three meals) our waitress Annie, was very nice and thoughtful.
