I got the "Winner Winner" plate. It made me feel like a big loser. The chicken was mushy, not flavorful. The crust, which is what you're looking for in a fried chicken, was dull and uninteresting; probably just flour salt and pepper. The fries are decidedly mediocre. The potato salad was AWFUL- tasted like pickled potatoes. The "Spirit of '76 Sauce" I threw in the garbage; it was bland and useless. You will pay less at Popeye's and get better food. read more

This food truck definitely exceeded my expectations. I wish the name and truck design weren't so cheesy- it makes it look like a tourist trap or something. But one of the guys gave me a sample of the chicken with their special sauce and it was delish! I ended up ordering the first chicken sandwich on the menu (can't remember the name)- loved the toasted brioche bun, and the pickles brought it home for me. However, they only had a little bit of sauce in the middle of the sandwich, so while I appreciate it wasn't dripping out on all sides, a little more would be better. The sandwich came with fries, which were ON POINT. I'll come back to try some of their other meals. read more

WOW! This was yummy and priced right. So much food that I only ate 1/3 of the delicious fries and didn't eat the yummy Texas toast on the second half of my sandwich. I had the Red White and Blue with hot Buffalo sauce and bleu cheese dressing drizzled on it. The chicken was delicious, the food was nice and hot and nothing was soggy when I got back to my office. Zaxby's/Cane's brought to NYC, in a food truck. An Atlantans dream. The chicken is prepared perfectly, moist and tender. The "Spirit of '76" sauce is really flavorful without relying on the Thousand Island, and instead using a ton of herbs and spices to round out the taste. I've stuck with the Red, White and Blue sandwich (I think that's what it's called). Tenders on Texas Toast with hot sauce and ranch, what more could you want? Comes with fries, making it an excellent bang for your buck. The owner is great, always positive and good for a lively conversation while you wait on your food, which is brought out in an appropriate amount of time. Right now, they have the old Nick's Famous Taste truck, so don't get confused! It's legit fried chicken served right. Go Dawgs! And thanks for moving out of FiDi and up to Midtown West occasionally - we need it. read more

They popped up during the summer, at the seaport, and one of my co workers tried the chicken tender sandwich, called "Winner Winner" and raved about it. So I went down and tried the All American, it wonderful, the fries are fresh, crispy and best part, they were hot. I also had their potato salad, which wasn't enough for me, and I just love the chicken tenders...again, fresh and juicy and seasoned well. Stumbled upon this today while on the lunch hunt. Line was short so I gave it a shot. Asked for recommendation from the guy in the truck and he suggested Winner Winner, which was a platter but I only wanted a sandwich. That looked good also though so maybe another day. Next suggestion was the Love Me Tender sandwich. Very tasty fried chicken on soft bread and good fries. Really liked the BBQ and the 76 sauce. Definitely going back. This truck parks at South Street Seaport behind my office. I needed a quick bite today, so I gave Yankee Doodle Dandy's a try. I'm glad I did! Still love their food! My favorite dish now is their "America the Beautiful" salad. Rather than spend time and money going to a restaurant, I just come to Yankee Doodle Dandy's food truck... Same gourmet salad, but half the price. If you ask for grilled chicken, they can do that too! I don't normally write reviews on here, but I had to sign up so I could get the word out about how great these guys are. The food is great and the staff is incredible. I usually go back and forth between the "Buffalo Soldier" and the "Red, White, and Bleu" chicken sandwich. Either way you can't go wrong and everything else on the menu is just as good. Their toast is on point, the Buffalo chicken is spicy with a nice flavor, and the potatoe salad is phenomenal. This food truck isn't just good enough to try if you're around, it's good enough to go out of your way and get it. Food truck's got a great story and the proprietor's a friendly guy whose got that quintessential American entrepreneurial spirit and pride in his food. And with good reason, I got the "Winner Winner", which at $10 for a boatload of chicken tenders, fries, potato salad and Texas Toast, a bargain in the Financial District. Furthermore, speed, this truck is lightning fast for food trucks, which is another plus. The tenders were delicious, excellently seasoned and well cooked, the kind of tenders that make KFC taste like middle school cafeteria food and dipped in their spirit of '76 sauce, I scarfed down the tenders, barely pausing to breathe. The fries and Texas Toast were good but the potato salad was fantastic! Excellently sauced, they achieved the delicate balance of being wholesome without feeling fatty. When I go back, I plan to get at least a bucket of the stuff. Definitely, definitely try this food truck. read more

That chicken tender sandwich is everything, and that's a lot coming from a person who LOOOVES chicken. Perfectly seasoned, and they custom make your sandwiches which was dope, and it was my first time trying it and they gave me a free soda, EXCELLENT EXCELLENT customer service the dude ran down after us to try his ice cream dessert and it was a nice portion (free of charge) which was super duper nice,made our day!! Having just finished what is certainly the best chicken sandwich I have had from a restaurant on wheels (and is among the best ever), I highly recommend trying anything on the menu. The guys were super nice, and the country music coming out of the windows only served to enhance the good vibes of the DUMBO lot. $10 for perfectly seasoned fries and a sandwich with all the toppings that matter. As a native New Yorker this is quite possibly the closest I'll ever get to true Southern comfort food. I dominated the Winner Winner in no time. You could tell the chicken was fresh and fried perfectly. And the Spirit of '76 sauce, I'm pretty sure it has something illegal in it, it was soo good. Forgit about it. If I could give this truck negative reviews, I would. I went to Govs Island with my bf over the weekend. We found a gaggle of food trucks and were deciding which one to eat from. We were going to a different truck when Yankee Doodle Dandy caught my eye with the false advertisement on the front of the truck that read "Worlds Best Chicken Fingers". Mistakenly, I convinced my poor boyfriend to eat from said truck. We ordered the "Winner Winner", and asked for ranch on the side after being told it comes with a special sauce. I held up a $20 for the food once he said it would be $10. My hand was in the air for a solid 45 seconds while he ignored me. Annoyed, I handed it to my boyfriend who held it up, to which the owner eagerly took it. I have no idea what that was about... the food comes out and we take it to a nearby table to enjoy. The meal was missing the ranch I asked for. So I decided to try the special sauce instead. Unfortunately it was absolutely tasteless. It tasted like horribly watered down thousand island dressing. The fries were your average run of the mill frozen French fries lacking salt. The chicken was the most disappointing part. I'm positive that this was the worst chicken I have ever had. I'm not sure if we got a bad batch or what because there are plenty of good reviews here which I'm shocked about. But this chicken had a horrible odd chewy texture, which can only result from cheap meat. The breading on the chicken was soggy and tasteless as well. The "Texas toast" had no flavor and was charred. The only thing on the plate that had any flavor was he potato salad which was terrible. It tasted like it was bad and had been laying out in the sun. This was probably the worst food I have had in a VERY long time and would urge anyone at Govs Island to seek out the other food truck options there. We took a few bites and threw everything away. A huge waste of money and food and an incredibly disappointing food truck experience. Ironically enough, there was a family also sitting at the same table as us who had ordered the exact same food from the same truck and left ALL of there food in the dish as well, covered in napkins. We should have taken that as a sign. read more
