Only 2 lamps in the room so a bit dark. We could hear the people above us walking but it wasn't a huge deal. Free breakfast, cookies in the afternoon. There's an area with a fridge, sink and kitchen items. We loved the rooftop area. Parking lot is a bit small but they were good in letting you know beforehand so if you rent or have a big car- you were informed! read more

We were looking around last minute for rooms in Newport and came across the yankee peddler. Never in a million years I would think my ocd, pain in my rear wife say ok to staying at an old inn. The reviews seemed good so she obliged. We got there a little early and the room was ready. There is a parking lot which is a huge bonus, especially since the place is in a perfect location to walk to all the shops. Parking can get a little tricky when it's busy but they make it work! I believe it was the owner who greeted us initially. She was wicked nice and helpful. Check in was quick and easy. We got to the rooms, air conditioning was cranking (otherwise my wife woulda had us leave and that is not a joke!). Beds were comfy. Rooms were clean. The place is dated but I'd hope you'd expect that from an 1800s era or maybe even older inn. We only stayed one night but I'd have to imagine we will be back. Great time and cool building if you are ok with fairly low maintenance. We didn't get to partake in the happy hour but at 5 pm they offer wine and also have a cool little roof top deck where you can sit outside and have some drinks as well. read more

Stayed three nights during the seafood fest. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. Alycia was great at check-in, explaining all the features of the boutique hotel. Room includes a continental breakfast. Parking lot is tight, so plan ahead. Park in the last four spaces toward the road, if those spaces are available. We never had an issue, getting into or out of the lot. Hotel is convenient to Downtown Marinas and Belleview Ave shopping. Free bus that goes downtown and to the mansions, passes right by the hotel, but we did not use. Used Uber twice from downtown. Pickup was quick and cheap. read more

This was a really cute, 1850s bed and breakfast that was perfectly located a couple blocks off downtown. Not for people who like the amenities you'll find in hotels (like my wife), but my daughters and I liked it. Nice, clean rooms, and the suites have separate rooms with the bathrooms in between. Window units have to work overtime to keep the rooms cool in July, but it does the trick. Wonderful 3rd floor deck to hang out on, free breakfast in the basement that is nothing to write home about. Staff was hit or miss...a couple of them acted like you'd just crashed their yacht in the harbor when you spoke to them, but maybe that's because I'm used to nice, friendly people, being from TX. Coulda been a cultural thing. Best part was yummy chocolate chip cookies they keep available to you. read more

This is our eleventh year going to Newport. And I believe it was our fourth time staying at the Yankee Peddler Inn. We usually stay in Room 3 with another couple because it's a spacious two bedroom suite. But we were alone this year and stayed in Room 15 in the Cottage House. Both are very clean and well maintained. The inn offers a continental breakfast every morning and a wine and cheese happy hour from 5:00-7:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Saturday night we went back to the inn around 5:30 for happy hour, but there wasn't any wine or cheese put out for the guests. We didn't think much of it and went back to our room to get ready for dinner. My wife was talking with the innkeeper the following morning and mentioned to her that there wasn't any wine for happy hour. The innkeeper was glad that she made her aware of it. She also told her that we spent our honeymoon in Newport eleven years ago and we've been coming back every year to celebrate our anniversary. When we arrived back to our room Saturday night, there were two bottles of wine and a box of truffles on the bed with a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary from the Yankee Peddler Inn. We were very surprised by the thoughtful gesture. When we checked out Monday morning, we also booked our stay for next year at the Yankee Peddler Inn. Thank you again. read more

I can't recommend this place enough. The location is absolutely perfect to walk to virtually everything and also to access public transportation. They have a parking lot, which can get a bit interesting when they're busy, but the people who work here are very good at working with that. Everyone we interacted with was informative, personable, and friendly, too. We were here for a week in July 2019. Because there was a group of us, we stayed in a two queen suite. We felt like that gave us a lot of room, especially as regards the bathroom. The toilet was in a small room with the shower, but the shower was a nice size. That door shut so someone could be using the sink and mirror while someone else was in the shower or using the toilet. There wasn't a huge amount of vanity top space around the sink, but we were ok and it formed its own small room between the two sleeping rooms, which meant if someone wanted to nap in the smaller room, they could close the door and others could still access everything. The larger room had a fireplace and several tables and dressers, as well as a closet and several chairs, so lots of places to put things. Both rooms were well lit and had window a/c, which worked well, although we kind of ended up leaving them on a lot when the temps were above 90 and humid. There was also a TV, although we didn't watch. There was a nicely sized fridge, as well, and we had plenty of blankets, pillows, and towels. There are lots of lovely spaces inside and outside, too, if you want to take a break but not in your room. There's a lovely roof deck, places to sit in the halls, a sitting area behind the registration desk, and the basement breakfast area, which is also where things like the wine and cheese are to be found, and a porch facing the street, and a small garden. The breakfast itself was pretty extensive. No, it's not an individually cooked to order gourmet deal with fancy nibbles. It's a good, plain one with a lot of choices. Muffins and croissants are baked fresh, oatmeal is cooked fresh, and fresh fruit is cut up every morning. There are hard boiled eggs, cheese, ham, cereal, milk, juice, tea, coffee, toast, and plenty of fixin's for all of the above. There's also usually a bowl of whole fruit like apples or bananas. There's a microwave and a toaster, too. We never felt like there wasn't enough breakfast, we never felt rushed, and we never felt constrained by timing. It seems like Newport is a fairly expensive place to stay, in general, and the prices here seemed to be fairly middle of that scale for similar lodging. The parking does seem to be an advantage, though, as it isn't an extra fee. While it takes some patience at times, I can't imagine what it would be like trying to find on street parking. I'm sure this is similar to other buildings of its kind, but there is no elevator. The staff is very happy to help with bags, but if that would be a concern for a member of your party, just know that there are stairs to get into and out of the building, as well as to get downstairs to the breakfast room. We enjoyed our stay here very much and would happily stay here again. read more

We had such a wonderful stay! It was one of the most reasonable bed and breakfasts in the area, but it is by far the nicest. First, it has free parking in a lot behind the Inn. This saved us so much time and money. We were able to keep our car parked and walk everywhere in the downtown area- without a blister. They have the sweetest little breakfast area downstairs- fully stocked with great food. Even organic options, which i would never have expected for a continental breakfast, but I was so pleased. It has a gorgeous top deck filled with flowers and a sweet front porch where we had wine and cheese and read some books. Everything was beautifully decorated a clean. Friendly, attentive staff. Our room was even ready 3 hours before check in...we couldn't have had a better experience! read more

Just getting around to writing the review for this place now...when we stayed here in October. On first arriving, it seemed like the cutest, quaintest little inn/b&b ever. Then we got to our room...and like others have mentioned, there are pictures of creepy old women on the walls. Also, we sort of got the shaft on the the good rooms, as we were stuck with a two level apartment style room - with living room/kitchen upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs. While it was big, it didn't look nearly as nice as all other upstairs rooms (i.e. see the pictures on the website). I guess I sort of expected the furniture/bedding to be pretty outdated, but I do think our room had it the worst out of all the rooms...so moral of the story, stay away from the one "downstairs" room if you can. Other than the room situation, the inn/inn keeper was perfectly pleasant. A light breakfast was served every morning, and the staff was very hospitable and able to give us recommendations on places to eat/drink/etc. Overall, a pretty decent inn, but on our next trip to Newport, we'll be staying at a different b&b. read more

This was my second trip to Newport and now i understand the bed and breakfast culture of the town. If you go to Newport, do yourself a favor and stay in a cute, quaint bed and breakfast like The Yankee Peddler. My boyfriend made the reservations to this b&b and I didn't research it before arriving, so I had no real expectations. Upon arriving to check-in, you're greeted by a friendly host at the front desk who gives you a warm welcome and run-down of the b&b. Listening to the guy talk made me feel like I was in a fairy tale. I stayed in the guest cottage beside the main building and his exact directions were "just follow the red brick road alongside the building until you appear at the red door." It really felt magical, I was in awe. I arrived on a Friday and the guy at the front desk informed me that I was just in time for wine and cheese downstairs (they provide this for guests on Friday and Saturday nights.) They also have a roof deck garden that is just beautiful!! Not much of a view besides neighboring tall trees, but the deck itself is filled with plants, lights, and comfortable seating. Once again, a magical setting! The breakfast they offer is pretty simple... Except for the warm croissants - they're so soft and gooey I want to go back just for more. We arrived in a heat wave to our fourth floor room with a non working AC unit. After reporting it to Mary, she contacted the owner and maintenance man and before we came back from dinner we had a brand new AC unit!! Thank you so much for fixing the problem. I was anticipating finding a new place to stay as Yankee Peddler was sold out that night but I was so happy that it was taken care of. That's the way to treat a guest! We are currently staying at the Yankee peddlers inn and are in room 17 of the carriage house. The room is noisy next to the street with a wall air conditioner/cracked in the window which doesn't help the noise situation. We could here people talking outside walking the neighborhood at midnight and 1am. Large trucks pass by throughout the night and cars speeding by. We told the front desk the following morning and they gave us ear plugs...that's expensive ear plugs for $271.00 a night! My parents also staying in the carriage house told the front office they were cold (it's 50 degrees in the daytime) so even colder at night and were told it's a central unit they control! He had to use the airdryer for awhile to warm his room up. So we freeze and stay awake at night! I do NOT recommend this inn! We have been going through New England for 10 days and have stayed at multiple b & b's and this is truly the worst. read more

What a nice find for a place to stay. The room was very comfortable and the beds were great. The location is only a 3 to 4 minute walk to many restaurants and things to do. They offer free parking but the lot gets packed when everyone is there. Very friendly staff and the free continental breakfast was quite good. They had a nice selection of tea (that is unusual) and the coffee was very good too. Lots of homemade pastries and other things to choose from. The blueberry muffins and the chocolate chip ones were excellent. They also put out chocolate chip cookies with coffee and tea in the afternoon. read more

I booked our stay at Yankee Peddler Inn because it was the only open lodging with good reviews that I could find in Newport for the dates requested. I believe it was the last room they had available for the timeframe we were looking for so our room was 14. My review is mixed because there are some lovely things about this building but also some worth mentioning that weren't in other reviews I found. This is a lovely old house with lots of charm and character. It's very appealing because they haven't changed too much about the house. The third floor terrace was lovely and very pleasant to sit out on. We enjoyed some food and drinks and could hear bands from the waterfront. I can't speak to other rooms but ours was the smallest I've ever stayed in...even in New York City!! The bathroom and shower were sooo small and water pressure very mild and I've never seen a sink so small! To get to our room we had to walk up 4 flights of stairs which is a lot but we didn't mind the workout. The room also only has a noisy wall unit air conditioner-this didn't bother us too much since it acted as white noise and we couldn't hear anyone on our floor which some older houses you can. The furniture could use some updating and was musky smelling. The staff was lovely and very accommodating. Beautiful flower arrangements that were quite impressive were all around the house. Breakfast consisted of coffee, lots of pastries, bagels, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal's, fruits, cereal, etc. very carb heavy but it was nice that this was included and they maintained this quite well. Cookies were also served later in the day much to our delight. Parking was free which apparently is unusual for Newport so we appreciated this..BUT be prepared to give your keys to the front desk because people will double, triple park. We were fine with this but some people aren't. The location was fabulous and within walking distance to most things. Overall, this was a nice place to stay but I think a few improvements could be made to make it better. read more

Went September 2008. Parking was a pain, you give your keys to the person at the desk, make sure you don't have any valuables. Bed was the most uncomfortable one I've ever slept in, compared to sleeping on the floor. The room was pretty large with a table area and a fireplace. Nice garden and nice walking around the neighborhood, this town is full of history. Check out the Newport Mansions while your there via the Cliff walk and also Bowens Wharf. read more

We couldn't have been happier with this B&B. Friendly staff, clean room, comfortable bed, and a great self-serve breakfast spread. The location is also ideal, within walking distance of dozens of places to eat and things to do, but far enough away from the nightlife scene to allow for quiet evenings and restful sleep. We stayed three nights without a car and walked pretty much everywhere, aside from a couple of Uber rides. Also, thankfully, they don't use fake air fresheners in the rooms and the sheets had a completely neutral smell... so those who are sensitive to such things will be able to rest easy. read more

The Yankee Peddlar Inn made for a nice stay in Newport. The location is great and the space is nice enough, understanding you're not staying in anything fancy or modern. The parking is convenient and the overnight parking is handled well by the staff. My biggest gripe is that I felt a little bamboozled by whoever took my very first call when inquiring about a reservation. I had a very specific question and it was for them to tell me about the beach and ocean nearby as it was definitely something we wanted to do while up there but we had no idea what to expect in terms of the water temperature, how rough the water is etc. While I was given a description of the nearby beaches the woman who took my call made no mention of RED TIDE. One may think "so what, big deal" but let me assure you it is a very big deal and it was the very first thing that was mentioned to us when we arrived and asked again about the beaches. Not knowing what red tide is, we looked it up. It sounded like perhaps not such a problem so we went to the beach. Well it was awful! Smells horrible and makes the ocean pretty impossible to enter. We checked all the nearby beaches and one was worse than the next. Had I not called and specifically asked about the water in their area then I wouldn't even assume they owed me a warning about red tide but considering that I did I find it hard to believe I wasn't basically lied to by omission. Definitely look up red tide if you're considering any sort of beach vacation in the area. read more

My first time to Newport and I look forward to the next. The Yankee Peddler was a great choice for location and convenience. It's suitably located for walk-ability to restaurants, movie theater, shopping and is a part of the history that is Newport. Our room was tight and the halls are narrow, but it's all part of the history and experience you become a part of when visiting Newport. My stay was comfortable, the staff greeted us upon arrival, offered information about the Inn, parking and local eateries. The key to Newport is to go off season, you will save $ and not deal with the crowds. I stayed at the Yankee Peddler and I would recommend it because of its location to the waterfront and main shopping area. It is also an economical stay during the off season. They provide free WiFi and a continental breakfast. If you do stay during warm months check to make sure that the room has air conditioning. If you are a light sleeper bring a sleeping mask because the rooms (at least the one I stayed in) are very bright in the morning. The staff was VERY nice. I could see parking being a pain when they're sold-out. If you haven't been to Newport before, bring a bike (or rent one) and ride along the Bellevue Avenue to see the mansions. You can continue to ride Ocean Drive (Ten Mile Drive) to see the rest of the waterfront. As for the mansions, I recommend getting a membership, it's only a few bucks more than the 3 mansion pass. With the membership there is no visit limit and it's good for a year. read more

Spent our 19th anniversary at the Yankee Peddlar Inn and had a nice experience. Staff was exceptionally friendly (particularly Alisha, JT, and Meg...all GREAT employees), check in was a breeze, the continental breakfast was well prepared and fresh, off street parking was great, as well as the centralized location of the facility; one can walk to just about any of the popular sites. The room was clean and well appointed, albeit a bit cramped in the bathroom, but overall nice. With regard to the bad points, the mattress was horribly uncomfortable and unsupportive, also in agreement with one of the other reviews on here..... "the walls are thin". We had parents with younger children to the side and above us; let's just say those parents obviously did not care if their kids disturbed other guests. The jumping and whining sounded like it was in our room. Obviously, these unruly children were not the Inn's fault. All taken into consideration, I would recommend the facility to anyone looking to spend a reasonably priced weekend or couple of days in Newport, but based on the poor bedding I would not recommend for a stay longer than a couple of days unless you want a bad back. read more

Nice inn in Newport, R.I. Our rooms had large queen sized four post beds with fireplace in the rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. Only negatives so far are the lack of parking, cars in parking lot are three deep and that we found the beds to be extremely hard. read more

My husband and I stayed here for just one night. The bed was comfortable and the room was quaint. They do not have certain amenities such as hairdryers or ironing boards so be prepared. Our room did have a fridge and tv though. Our breakfast was delicious, plenty of options, and the coffee was great.
