It comes with honey hot sauce, chilled spiced watermelon, Vermont sharp cheddar cheese waffle, and bourbon maple syrup. The waffles are so fluffy and the chicken is fried to perfection. Didn't think I'd like the watermelon paired with it, but it definitely complimented the meal. I love salmon, but wasn't the biggest fan of the salmon dish I ordered. It lacked flavor in my opinion and I've had much better. The deviled eggs make for the perfect appetizer! I don't care for deviled eggs much, but definitely enjoyed these. Had a great meal at Yardbird on a weeknight. The restaurant was quite busy even on a weeknight so a reservation is recommended. The staff seated us quickly on the second floor which we preferred since it was a little quieter than the bustling main floor. They have an extensive drink menu with cocktails and wine options. We tried all the Classic cocktails: the Southern Revival was definitely the best one. For apps, we got a Texas Twinkie and cornbread. The Twinkie was excellent; the glazed syrup over the bacon wrapped jalapeno was awesome. Note it only has one pepper in one portion, so consider ordering multiples for large parties. For main dishes, the chicken & waffles stood out the most. The side watermelon was definitely unexpected but it brought a surprisingly refreshing taste. Awful experience to say the least! We were a party of 5 here to celebrate friends birthday! From the moment we walked in and were seated we asked if there is a happy hour and the server advised us that it's only at the bar which is okay but the waitress was not very happy with us from the second she saw us, we asked for a happy hour menu just to make sure we did not want to change the seating, while checking the menu manager Jill approached us and did welcome us on a patio where the happy hour menu was apparently extended to. We ordered multiple drinks and multiple appetizers from the menu and were reviewing main dishes and after we ordered the whole thing went downhill, the orders were coming out chaotically, one person would get all three things that they ordered while the rest wouldn't even have their water, cocktails were messed up one person of our group did not drink and ordered peach lemonade and the waiter brought out 3! Of them for that person Just a mess. And then when the time for the bill come it was all over the place. I was the only one with all items accounted for everybody else had pricing for regular item which were supposed to be discounted during happy hour, they had added alcohol which was not supposed to be there. Have you ever had that one restaurant you keep meaning to try? You hear about it, drive by it, see it in your Yelp searches, but somehow you always end up somewhere else? That's been me and Yardbird for the past year. Even before I relocated to Dallas from Atlanta, Yardbird was on my radar. And this weekend I finally made it in for Brunch, and mostly, it was worth the wait. We visited to celebrate my niece's 7th birthday--she's in her "big girl brunch" era and Yardbird is a great pick for a celebration when you want Southern classics with an upscale twist, and the vibe delivers. Our server Fernando was fantastic--attentive, upbeat, and made sure we were well taken care of. We ordered a spread of brunch staples, including: the iconic Chicken & Waffles, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Deviled Eggs, Crispy Chicken Biscuit Sliders, Fried Okra, Iceberg Wedge Salad, Classic Buttermilk Biscuits and Cheesy Grits. We washed everything down with Southern Sweet Tea, which they offer in several different flavors. Everything came out quickly and was plated nicely. The portions were generous, and most of the food hit the mark: comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you expect from a place that celebrates Southern cooking excellence. Now, the few misses that made this 4 stars for me: #1... I added a note with my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and also mentioned to the hostess upon arrival that we were celebrating a special day for a special little girl. Somehow, the fact we had a birthday at the table never made it to our server. Fernando overheard us at the end and did his best to make up for it with a sweet "Fried Oreo" birthday dessert to-go, which we appreciated, but it would've been nice to have the celebration acknowledged for my niece during the meal and without the prompt. #2 for such a high-profile dish, the Lobster Mac & Cheese (market priced at $69) was underwhelming-- lovely presentation, but bland and a bit forgettable in taste compared to the rest of the meal. #3 the chicken that came with my Chicken & Waffles? Good flavor but soggy skin, even though I requested extra crispy. When fried chicken is your signature dish... the "crisp" matters. Still, Yardbird has a lot going for it. Now that I know which dishes shine, I'll be back with adjusted expectations and an appetite for the ones that do it right. My sister and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday and were seated as soon as we got there. The host, Elizabeth was very sweet and accommodating with us having a toddler and a baby. The restaurant is huge!! We were seated in a room area near the kitchen, which is reservable as well for events, parties, etc. the ambience of the restaurant was really cute and had a fresh feel to it with all of the plants /designs along the walls. Our server Christian started us off with an espresso martini, which was a bit on the strong side. A nice way to start the day and brunch. Haha For the appetizer we order deviled eggs and the tortilla soup. The tortilla soup was so flavorful and also had a slight spice to it. Absolutely loved it!! I'm not much of an egg person but my sister thought the eggs were okay and wished the filling would've been creamier. For the price, probably not worth it in my opinion. For entrees we ordered tenders and wings off of the lunch menu. We subbed the fries for Mac & cheese. The Mac was so cheesy and creamy!! I loved the noodles/pasta they used. Over the years, Yardbird has continued to go downhill. The chicken used to be fried to perfection. I remember when there was an African-American man who served as the head chef--when he was in the kitchen using his grandmother's recipes, the chicken was a 10 out of 10. It was so good that one day I ordered it twice, and he even came out to speak with me. He was incredibly kind. I'm going to assume he is no longer there, because the chicken now is hard, the batter is tough, and it lacks flavor. I honestly don't understand what happened. But here's the real reason I'm writing this: last Sunday was my final straw with Yardbird. The prices are outrageous for the quality of food being served. The shrimp and grits should have been good, but the entire dish lacked flavor--you needed to add salt and pepper. If I'm spending $38 on anything, there should never be an issue with basic seasoning. One of the ingredients in shrimp and grits is hot sauce, yet somehow it still managed to taste bland. And here's the kicker: my daughter ordered an orange juice, and the glass was $10. On what planet should anyone be paying $10 for a single glass of orange juice? You can buy three cartons at the grocery store for that price. It's honestly ridiculous--and in this economy, it's offensive that someone even decided that was an acceptable price. I should not be spending over $100 for brunch for myself and a teenager. This is not a five-star restaurant. This is a casual dining spot, and nothing on that menu justifies these prices. The name doesn't do this place justice! When my husband suggested we meet at Yardbird for lunch with the kids I pictured some high scale Chick fil A. Boy was I wrong! The lobby was stunning as was the sweeping view of the entire restaurant. The bar and the large windows out to the patio were beautiful. We chose patio seating and it didn't disappoint. Even being across the street from Klyde Warren Park the patio is private and it has excellent shade for the warmer days. We started with the deviled eggs. The presentation (photo) was so pretty and they tasted so wonderful, even our kiddos liked them. The kids chose a hamburger and mac & cheese from the kids menu which came with a side (fruit or fries) as well as a drink and Blue Bell ice cream - they were elated! My hubby and I chose the Peppercorn-Crusted Skirt Steak (Arugula, Broccoli, Corn, Potato, Tomato, Jalapeño Vinaigrette) and the Yardbird Tenders w/fries. Yardbird is pretty consistent no matter which city you're in. This particular one is stunning. There's a great outdoor area in addition to the standard seating you'd find at most restaurants. The ambiance is great. I ordered the salmon, deviled eggs and cornbread. The salmon was underwhelming, but the cornbread and deviled eggs were tasty. I normally get the short rib, but the recipe has changed a bit. They added mushrooms and that's no bueno for me. Just told not even an hour after our reservation that we had to hurry up because they had another party at 7 that had reserved our space. We were not finished yet and felt this was extremely rude. I found it hard to hear my server. I was not all that impressed with the food. The skillet cornbread was good and flavorful. The short rib pappardelle would have been better if it was not dripping in sauce. This is a pasta dish. I should not have to fish out the pasta because there is too much sauce. The short rib meat was super tender. The sauce itself was good with the rib meat, spinach and tomato. I just wanted a little bit less of it in my plate. Service was just okay and not exceptional. Yardbird is a place that you have to visit once a quarter because the amount of food you receive in one setting fills you up and keeps you full until your next time. I had the pleasure of visiting them not too long ago for my birthday and as usual they did not disappoint!
