I am reaching out because I'd like management to understand what happened before I post this publicly. My goal isn't to get anyone in trouble--I simply want someone to understand why a group of paying customers, including children, left feeling unwelcome during one of the biggest sporting events of the year. I wanted to give you the opportunity to hear our experience and respond first. My family and friends had a very disappointing experience at the Dallas Thirsty Lion during the USA soccer game yesterday. We had a reservation for eight people, and a couple of additional friends joined us. The restaurant was not full, there were empty seats available throughout the dining room, and several of the tables around us were more than willing to let us use their unused chairs. We also noticed that multiple other groups had added extra chairs around their tables, yet they didn't appear to receive the same response from their servers that we received from ours. We've attended countless major sporting events at restaurants and sports bars over the years, and we've never had an issue with people standing around a table or using a couple of unused chairs to accommodate a larger group. It's simply part of the atmosphere during major games. This was also one of the very few opportunities my wife and I get to enjoy a night out together. I'm a firefighter, she's a nurse, and because our schedules rarely align, evenings like this are few and far between. We also had the chance to spend time with family and friends we rarely get to see, which made the evening even more special to us. We had no choice but to bring our children, and we were looking forward to spending quality time together while cheering on Team USA. Instead, we left feeling like our family--and especially our kids--were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. What made the experience even more frustrating was that our waitress made us feel like our group--and especially our children--weren't welcome. We did everything we could to make the situation work ourselves. Our children shared a chair, and at times I even had my child sitting on my lap. I wasn't even trying to take a seat for myself. I wanted to stand for the game because we were at a high-top table, and my standing height was no higher than the eye level of the guests who were seated. I wasn't blocking anyone's view or creating a disturbance, yet I was repeatedly made to feel like I needed to sit down. We came to Thirsty Lion hoping to enjoy good food, drinks, and the USA match. Since the game itself wasn't going our way, we were hoping the atmosphere at the restaurant would still make for a great evening. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect. Throughout the night, our waitress made us feel like we were inconveniencing her instead of welcoming us as paying customers. Rather than looking for a solution or involving a manager, she seemed perfectly comfortable with one of our friends leaving altogether just so the seating situation could be resolved. Even when it came time to pay, the attitude never changed. Our group asked to split the checks, which is a very common request for a large party at a sports bar. She appeared visibly frustrated, as though the request itself was an inconvenience. Given that every table had been reserved for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, I expected a higher level of hospitality and preparedness for the normal challenges that come with serving larger groups. To make matters worse, the restaurant's entire draft beer system was down during one of the biggest sporting events of the year. I completely understand that equipment issues happen, but when guests are already dealing with an inconvenience like that, customer service matters even more. A simple acknowledgment of the inconvenience or an effort to make the experience better would have gone a long way. Instead, it felt like no effort was made. By the end of the night, as the bar was preparing to close, we were also made to feel like we were no longer welcome to stay, even though there was still plenty of time left in the game. I understand restaurants have policies, and if there was a legitimate safety or occupancy concern, I would have appreciated a clear explanation. What disappointed me was the complete lack of effort to find a reasonable solution or involve a manager. Instead, our entire group left feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and disappointed. This experience honestly ruined what should have been a fun night with family and friends, and at this point I have no interest in returning. Kayla walked us through the seasonal menu and gave terrific advice. She knew all the options and recommendations were spot on. Had the Hot Honey Salmon which was very good. Wife had the Pear and Prosciutto shortbread; also delish. Southern Peach Crumble desert did not disappoint. Neither did Kayla. Food on point. Good Old Fashioned. Confronted with the weekly question: where do we have dinner on Saturday, we chose the Thirsty Lion. It had been on my radar for quite some time so a place with an eclectic menu sounded appealing. We did not feel the people behind us moving around. There are three sauces: mustard, cheese, and a jalapeno jam that is spicy and sweet. The jalapeno was my favorite but all three were good. Honestly, I was full after the pretzel so I think it could be meal by itself, maybe with a small side salad or something. But the pretzel is filling! The drink menu is extensive with numerous beers on tap plus cans and bottles. The wife tried Guiness on tap for the first time and loved how smooth it is. Few things in life are better than Guiness on tap. I had an IPA and enjoyed it. The kid had a bottle of mineral water, so there was something for everyone. There is a full bar and they make cocktails but we did not try any. From the kids' menu, the kid had hamburger sliders. She likes extra pickles and the kitchen complied. There are two sliders and she ate one, which is pretty good for her. The fries were ok but could be crispier. The wife ordered the Ramen and really liked it a lot. She would get it again. It was spicy with fresh jalapeños, which appear to be a Texas addition. We've been to Japan so she knew it was not 100% authentic but it was a very good rendition. No complaints. I had the spicy chicken sliders. The chicken was very crispy and there was some kick. The buns held up. However, the slider was a bit on the dry side. Our server Nini was professional and friendly. My bestie recommended this restaurant, so we decided to check it out with a party of three around 7 p.m. We did make a reservation, which turned out to be a great idea because it was fairly busy when we arrived and most of the tables were already full. Love this location and easy parking! Dorian was a wonderful server. We started with the fries which were served HOT (my favorite) with Sriracha dip and ranch. Both my friend and I got the poke stack, fresh tuna with avocado on top of rice. I mix it together and dip it with the fried wonton chips that come on the side. SO GOOD and filling. This is our go to when we want to grab dinner after work. It's convenient that it's right next door to Trader Joe's so I can go there after to grab a few things. Our food also came out promptly and it was SO GOOD! The gluten-free option she ordered was the Baja fish tacos with fresh slaw and I got the Tuscan chicken with cavatappi pasta and baby veggies. It was so tasty that I ate the entire thing haha! The chicken cutlets were tender and crispy and had a delicious caper sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and I usually don't even bother with the vegetables, but they were buttery and delicious. This place was definitely a 10/10 for me! Located in the beautiful Preston Hollow area in Dallas, the Thirsty Lion Gastropub provides an excellent eatery with quality menu options. I really enjoyed the vibes of the place. It's what you expect from an American Gastropub with comfortable seating and an excellent open atmosphere that never invites the thought of claustrophobia. The menu provides excellent options that vary from your traditional American staples such as wings and burgers to really imaginative Asian options that definitely find a home at this restaurant. We arrived in time to catch in the final hour of happy hour (daily happy hour from 3-6). We're glad we did because the appetizers are excellent. Some of the things we ordered were the Ahi Poke Stack, crispy calamari, and creamy queso dip. The drinks that came with the happy hour menu were also very excellent and strong. I definitely felt it after 2 happy hour old fashioned cocktails, especially because never tasted watered down which I immensely appreciated. The main course appetizers however didn't rise to the occasion to deliver a perfect dining experience. Thankfully there were a variety of options that excited me for the thought of the next visit. Blackened Ribeye Steak- this is a spring menu exclusive that was served with a bourbon brown butter. There were two major glaring problems with the steak. About half of the steak was just fat and it was overly seasoned. There was just too much pepper on the steak and the fat was overwhelming. The star of the plate surprisingly was the seasonal vegetables! I've never had a more perfectly cooked vegetable side, even from five star restaurants. The snap peas were absolutely divine with a perfect crunch and freshness. If I could only order the side of the seasonal vegetables, I absolutely would. Spicy fried chicken sandwich - the breading on chicken was good however the bread was lackluster. The fries tasted exactly how they make them at Wingstop (this is a huge compliment, I love their fries) without the seasoning and their ranch is very creamy and delightful. Chicken Caesar salad- unfortunately it was overly dressed and completely drenched the salad and the extreme tartness that came from the dressing could not be rescued by the perfectly accompaniment of the crispy Parmesan crisps. The Korean inspired Gochujang bbq pork with kimchi fried was the clear winner of all the main entrees we ordered. The succulent meat with the perfectly balanced elements of the Korean flavors absolutely shined for the most enjoyable bite among all of the dishes. When it comes to Thirsty Lion Gastropub, this is a place that definitely needs to added on your radar when it comes to Happy Hour options with your friends. You'll enjoy the vibes and the food and you'll keep coming back for more. Also, I should mention that you don't ever need to worry about splitting the check or figuring out the awkward conversation of who ordered what to the waiter because they have the technology to be able to separate checks with ease and immediately pay with Apple or Google pay! The hostess was amazing; since we got in pretty early, she gave us the best table to view the game from all angles. This was my third time coming to this location and will probably be my last. The first time I came it was a weekend evening and I sat at the bar. The food was good and the service was good and I had no complaints. The second time I decided to come during happy hour on a weekday. I requested to be sat at a table in the front outside. After being sat I waited ~20 minutes with no one greeting me, bringing me water, or taking my order. I then went inside to ask to speak to a manager regarding this. It was a different hostess than the first person who sat me outside at the front. She informed me that all management was busy and could not be available to speak with me at that moment. The really upsetting part was that the hostess who previously sat me came up to the front and actually mistaken me for a new customer needing a seat. It was a little disheartening that I was forgotten about that quickly. After waiting some time I eventually told the new hostess about what happened and that I was upset and I just wanted to inform someone of it. She did offer that she would make sure someone would come to see me if I wanted to continue dining there but I ultimately refused and just wanted them to know about the poor service I received that day and left. Today, I attempted a third time on a weekday during lunch hour (it shocks me how little restaurants in this area offer an actual lunch menu). It was not very busy and I opted to sit at the bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bartender was nice but overall the vibes just wasn't what I expected.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I only ended up ordering a drink (hibiscus vodka breeze) which was very refreshing but not very strong to be an almost $12 drink. It was mine & my boyfriend's first time here today. 10/10! Service was veryyy fast, food was delicious, with a big selection. Shout out to David our server! I was in the service industry for a long time and wow, I wish he worked for me back in the day. He's awesome all around. read more
