Chicken over rice with white sauce and LOTS of hot sauce.
    Christine D.

No question, eat here. Has it really been 4-5 years since this business's last review? I was craving halal and I'm picky about my chicken over rice. The halal guy doesn't cheap out on the white sauce, the flavors are perfect, the meat is tender. The hot sauce has good heat and spicy level. I have a high spice tolerance. It was spicy enough to enjoy. Look at the photo

This hit the spot when I was feeling hungry at 1am! The food tasted very fresh, as far as these types of food carts go.

If you really want to know the whole story, it's all laid out on their website but reading a bunch…read moreof bullet points on a screen about some big neighborhood spectacle is about the most depressing thing you can do, so I'll explain. Basically, the Giglio Feast is a historic 12-day Italian-American festival that happens every July at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's been going on since 1887 when immigrants brought it over from Nola, Italy, to honor Saint Paulinus commemorating when he returned from captivity after sacrificing himself for his people and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. That part actually sounds pretty decent, if you want to know the truth, but the way spectators in attendance make a huge circus out of it just drives me crazy. Then participants are amazing. The main event is this thing called the "Dancing of the Giglio," where they take a giant 70-foot tower made of wood and steel weighing four whole tons and covered in lilies, angels, and religious figures and hoist it up. They've got a live brass band and a singer literally sitting right on top of the timber frame while roughly 120 guys lift, spin, and "dance" this enormous four-ton thing down North 8th Street on their bare shoulders. Guys in matching outfits blowing saxophones and yelling on the platform, and crowds of people crammed together in the street taking photos and cheering. There's even a statue of a saint perched at the very top against the blue sky, looking down at all these phonies sweating and carrying on in the heat. It's supposed to be this grand, sacred tradition, but looking at a hundred guys breaking their backs to carry a four-ton tower with a band riding on it just makes you feel sort of tired and thirsty. It really does.

Fun foodie adventure! We made a special trip to this food park from Manhatten to Williamsburg- via…read moresubway, walking, and the ferry. Our son raved about this place, so we couldn't wait to check it out. Free entrance. I would say there were about 20+ food vendors in a blocked off section. Sooo many food choices from around the world! We were going for small bites for lunch, since we had made dinner plans for later. We had the best frite at Home Frite! Fries were thick cut- crispy on the outside with soft interior, lightly salted, and we chose the lemon garlic aioli dipping sauce. Nom, nom, nom. We shared an order between the 2 of us and we were scrapi the bottom of the paper container looking for more lol. Highly recommend the lemon garlic aioli For protein, we went with D'Abruzzo's They seasoned and marinated their skewer meats with the simplest and freshest ingredients and grilled them right there on open fire pits. For an order of 5 skewers, we chose chicken and beef. Simple, delicious, and healthy. Lots of table seating in the park adjacent to the food area, but not much shaded. Wander into the park for shady areas. Porta potty and restrooms were located in this area as well. If in Williamsburg, check it out!

Did I just pay $25 for a 32 oz. jar of sauce? You bet I did! No regrets…read more It's not just any ordinary sauce -- it is the ultimate Sunday Gravy! I first tried this down at South Street Seaport right by the New Amsterdam Market on a cold, rainy day in December. South Street Seaport looked absolutely dreary after Hurricane Sandy had wreaked havoc, but there was still a ton of local vendors who were absolute troopers trying to revive the area. My friend and I decided to split a serving of Sunday Gravy over pasta, and it totally hit the spot! The pasta had the perfect consistency, and the sauce (ohmygod the sauce) was just PACKED with pork, beef, sausage, meatballs, tomatoes, & basil. It was actually so hearty that I had to ask for another container to double up because I didn't think one plate would be able to support it all. After making our rounds to the different vendors, I HAD to return to get that large bottle of Sunday Gravy! It was calling my name. With every 32 oz. bottle you purchase, you get a pound of pasta. The bottle has a shelf live of 7 days, and even when I made it in my apartment, it was still amazing then. Sunday Gravy does NOT skimp on the meat! Another review says that the people who run it weren't very friendly, but the guy who was working when I went was so nice! He even said that I was his second favorite customer (only second to another customer who ended up buying 7 large bottles and fulfilled his quota for the day, so I'm not bitter about not being his first favorite). He was making conversation and still had a smile on his face despite looking like he was freezing. I'm only docking a star because $25 is a lot of money to pay for a large jar. Although I would want it again and again, I'm not made of money and would likely only buy this as a gift or every once in a while to treat myself. The quality is amazing, and I highly recommend you get your fix if you see them around.
