Ok - here we go- again and again- I find that the more times I go the more I like this place. It's family owned and they run the show- the waitress is really friendly and very nice- she is very helpful with the menu and is really fast. The salad was chilled - it really brought back good memories and the miso soup was perfect - they arrived really quick to the table. We ordered 3 rolls total and the first roll - tiger - was delivered soon after. The other two came together because one was baked. The lion king is super - I love it hot. The Danville is one of my favorites with the jalapeños. The tiger was on my list and I really wanted to try it. I was impressed. Everything on the vast menu has been fantastic. Everything i have tried has been a win. I like where it's located in San Ramon. Easy access and great parking. Sashimi is fresh and foos always look so mouthwatering！ I tried many new rolls today. The Salmon Q appetizer has fried rice patty at the bottom with crab meat, avocado and spicy tuna on top. Updated review after 2 years, for in-person dining. Yayume used to be one of our favorite spots for a meal right before or after a movie at Regal Crow Canyon. Unfortunately the theater folded and with us recovering from pandemic lockdowns and as busy parents, going out is more of a luxury. I am thrilled that Yayume offers consistently good and fresh nigiri sushi and Teriyaki salmon and chicken entrees. Our 2-yo is a huge fan of the salmon and he can probably eat the whole filet by himself! I do recommend getting the Teriyaki sauce on the side for both dishes, since that way you control the messiness factor and seasoning. Service continues to be friendly. Finally got a chance to try out this place after passing it a few times. We came on a busy Friday night and got seated in a nice private corner of the restaurant. Workers here are nice and efficient. First thing we noticed is the amount of regulars coming and going from this place. Just judging by the greetings and some of them even left with holiday gifts of sauces. Got sat down and noticed the pricing. It was higher than we expected. Yes we were in San Ramon, but it was in a sleepy strip mall that, if it were in a different city, definitely would have felt sketch. Ordered up a couple of rolls and got me one of those sushi combos with assorted nigiri. Food came out quick. Wow. Very impressed with how "pretty" and colorful all the plates looked. Definitely more of a high end type eatery - the fish was super fresh tasting and just melted in your mouth. Everything was so so good, and especially the salmon nigiri. My kid loves salmon and she commented how good it tasted and why she only got two pieces. I told her well, honey, they're $8, let's try something else. We got some of their grilled foods, and while it was nothing to write home about, it was fine. But definitely their fish is the specialty here. You 100% get what you pay for. This is my second time coming here and I really enjoyed their food. They are open untill 9:30PM which is a plus for me because I usually eat dinner late. Parking was also really easy. They are located in a small lot across from the movie theatures. When I got there a little after 8, there were a couple of parties sitting down but not many people. Upon entering we were greeted and seated super quick. The waitresses working are always super nice and attentitive. Decided to order the sesame chicken entree and salmon teriyaki. Each of these come with a miso soup and a house salad. These were both around 21 bucks which I think is a bit on the high side but reasonable with inflation and it being a japanese place. However both were really good. The Salmon was really juicy and not dry like alot of other places. The Sesame Chicken tasted more like orange chicken but was decent and super moist. They do put the entiree on a big plate so the portion looks super small but the portions are reasonable. Last time I came, I got their sashimi (Salmon and Tuna) and they were really fresh!! We actually ordered from Yayume by mistake, somehow I was thinking of a different place around the area but no harm done it turned out to be a good discovery. It was New Years Day and who wants to cook on New Years Day... LOL After looking over their online menu, I called to place my order and the lady on the other end picked up fairly quickly after a few rings. She sounded friendly enough and took my order of Lion king, Caterpillar, California Rolls, house salad, miso soup and chicken teriyaki over rice. Told me 30 mins and off I sent the hubby shortly after. He said transaction was done right outside the restaurant door, it was easy peasy :) The rolls were all very tasty(great sauces) as is the house salad. It was a basic salad but the lettuce was fresh and crisp along with their own take on Miso dressing, I enjoyed it very much. The thing that caused the takeaway of a Star is the teriyaki chicken, it was overdone and dry, quite a few pieces were charred black but luckily sauce tasted great. We found this place on Yelp last December and since the. Hubby and I have been here three times and we do not even live i the area but it is worth the drive. Not allowed inside pay at door with clear partition Online orders and can call in orders. The online ordering seem kind of hard to use as it was not working for me. Ended up calling th order in and have continued to do that since it seems to work the fastest and easier for us. So far we have had the following: Titanic roll, Tiger roll, Honey bunny roll, California Salad Gyoza and Girly Man Roll. Everything is always neatly packed and prepared enough for us to go somewhere and have a picnic or just eat in the car. I like to get a different roll each time and they do have many choices! The portions are generous and everything is so fresh! We have liked everything we had so far but we both agree the girly man roll is not our favorite but we still ate it however I don't plan on getting that one again. They do get very busy in the evening hours and there are long waits. We have been fortunate to go around noon when they open and it has not been a wait which we like. Anyway, we took all these kids to sushi. Each kid gets their own order of California Rolls. Then we order side Super California Roll. They devoured them with copious amounts of sloppy soy sauce. The adults in the group got the Lion King Roll and the Dragon Roll and the Tiger Roll. Of course we shared with some of the children too. The rolls were excellent. Yayume used to be our family's favorite sushi place in the area for the fresh fish and the wait staff, and after today's visit I can confidently say we are not going back in a while. Yayume must be under new management and the only two things they did right were to keep the waiters and their supplier. However, as a family we noticed a drastic change in the quality of the food being served. We were paying the same price for a smaller portion for example, we ordered the California crunch role and received 8 rolls instead of the normal 14, for about 14 dollars. Not to mention, the role didn't even stay together as soon as my son picked it up with the chopstick. The tempura inside was covered in batter and it overpowered the minimal crab and all he tasted was the deep fried penko and rice. The tempura appetizer as well as the soft shell crab had way too much batter, as if management is attempting to distract their customers from the fact they have skipped out on the portion of their food. My daughter ordered the beef udon, and upon receiving the udon first thing we noticed was the insane amount of cucumber and carrot. If you've ever had udon you know cucumber and carrot do not belong, and the only green that should be in the udon is the green onion. Were there any green onion? We counted 4 diced green onion in total. The beef looked as if they took it out of the fridge and plopped it into the steaming udon and hoped the broth would warm it up. When discovering the beef, it was clumped into a ball, and not to mention there was a small amount of beef. To move onto the nigiri it tasted mediocre, still maintained its hint of freshness but the hamachi tasted too fishy. Ordering the sushi tester, the maki that came with it was incredibly tiny, the size of a thumb. To touch on their ambiance, we listened to a Spotify ad every other instrumental song. It looks like management spent more time selecting their plates than thinking about how to portion their food. And finally, their wait staff, was probably the only part of our dining experience that kept the satisfactory levels I expected when visiting. New management has ruined our favorite sushi place and failed to meet the bare minimum of quality expected in each restaurant. If I wanted over battered tempura, I would've gone to Kura revolving sushi. read more
