I love ramen and hoped to find a good place near my house. The ramen here is a build-your-own bowl. I picked tonkotsu broth (pork base), chashu, and spicy. There's also a variety of toppings included, but some they charge extra. The ramen is decent, but nothing mind-blown. I've had good ramen in the Bay Area, SoCal, and Japan. I recommend Ramen Nagi or HiroNori Craft Ramen in the South Bay if you want good ramen. read more

Tonkotsu ramen: Noodles dont feel high quality. Its unslurpable, when I pick it up with chopsticks, it feels plastic-ey and looks plastic-ey. The noodles looks like they repel each other. They are slightly bigger than instant ramen noodles. The noodles also dont take in flavor that well, doesnt taste bland but the noodles lack flavor, I have to eat the noodles then sip some soup to get flavor. The chashu is pretty good, its moist, meaty, the right size, I like the sauce they add on to it but the pieces with sauce also taste good in the broth. Still not the best chashu I've had Soft boiled egg is alright, doesnt look that pretty, yolk is cooked a lil too much, the egg gets the job done. Even tho soft boiled egg is usually my favorite in a ramen dish, this one wasnt. The bamboo is standard, lots of flavor, crunchy while being chewy too. I rate this highly Naruto pieces also taste good, they dont have the naruto swirl but good texture and flavor. I dont like bean sprouts, they got in the way of my noodles. But they're nasty flavor didnt get in the way as they usually do. It was just texturally in the way, I dont wanna hear crunch crunch when eating my noodles yknow. I barely had the corn, it sunk down into the soup before I got to it Soup is good, im not good at describing flavors. Flavor is light, but tasty. I chose tonkotsu and non spicy. Right after ordering, cashier hands u napkins and chopsticks. Music is very soft and peaceful, can barely hear the music, which I prefer. There is a self order machine but it hasnt been working I think. Last time I came, the card machine didnt work so they only accepted cash. Saw a sign that they were under new Management so we gave it a try. Very nice young lady taking orders. There were two of us we both ordered ramen. Mine came wrong was missing veggies so back it went as my lunch partner ate hers so it would not get cold. About 10 minutes mine was Brought back with the veggies but now it was cold. My lunch partner was almost done with her meal so I requested a refund. No attempt Was made to make it eight other then Refunding me my Money which is a mute point. A HIDDEN GEM IN CASTRO VALLEY!!!! Seriously, I love this place so much. They PACK the ramen and toppings for you, I mean check out the picture!! The broths are always super flavorful as well. They have no idea what skimping means because they are just SUPER generous with their bowls here. I mean seriously, I couldnt believe how much food they gave when I first came here. For the price as well, this is definitely more than enough for me to feel full as well as take home leftovers (which I always do) I found about this place initially through doordash, and I was NOT disappointed in that department either. They do well by separating the toppings/noodles from the broth and it still comes SUPER warm and ready to eat. I'm also surprised they include chicken as one of their options because there are many ramen places that dont!!! The ramen's broth is watered down, the chasu is 90%fat, the noodles are not fresh and the serving is not generous. My daughter did not eat her chasu as mostly fat, barely any meat. The noodles have a nice chewiness to them but the broth and toppings are a little sad. I have been here twice and both times I wasn't impressed. I wish their soft boiled eggs were more flavourful. They look like they were boiled in tea or shoyu but they taste like plain old boiled eggs. The bamboo seemed old or out of a can. The corn is plentiful, but there really aren't any greens. I got my ramen "spicy" and it made the miso broth taste like fire, it completely overpowered the miso flavor but wasn't really that hot -- I did not cry, my nose did not run...? My nieces said their chashu pork was overcooked and tough. We also got chicken karaage, spam musubi, lumpia, and chicken and rice. Again, everything was a solid 3 stars. There are 2 small tables outside, no heaters. Pretty ample parking in the plaza they are part of. The people that work here are super nice and the service is great but the food is just OK. read more

It was one of those cold rainy days that we wanted ramen. Ramen 101 is one of those restaurants that don't usually close on a freakin' Mondays! Thank you for being open! The place is easy to find. Place is small so I'm glad that we were able to eat inside since it was raining. There were only about eight tables; not really for big groups but doable if slow. I like their customizable menu. Staff made it easy to order. They were friendly and nice! They seem to have fun while working, too. There was a lot of to-go pick ups. Black Garlic Signature Ramen with tonkotsu broth and added an egg was what my hubby and I chose. He had mild spicy while I had medium spicy but medium spice was no spice. I should have asked for extra spice to put in it. They did not shy away garlic chips. Man, that was a lot but good! Gyoza was good too. Definitely check in to get that free appetizer! Will be back! I had a rough poop the next morning but I think that's on me for adding spice to mine. - decent sitting space - it wasn't crowded and there were only about 4 other parties in the restaurant at the same time - Really nice staff! I like the self-serve water feature and they kept the ground really clean despite people dropping noodles - They let us sit there to eat for ~2 hrs while my friend and I were catching up - Easy parking lot, plenty of parking and easy to get to, good meet up spot Cons: - Probably not ideal for parties of more than 4-6 people, given the sitting space inside overall, very good standard ramen for your fix and pretty good quantity for the price! read more

I noticed that they opened a Ramen 101 in CV, and since we've been to Ramen 101 in San Leandro before, we know what we want. We've seen this place in the Lucky shopping center for some time but never stopped in until recently for lunch one day. It's a casual place, walk up and place your order kind of deal. I got the tonkatsu signature ramen. We were served fairly quickly which was nice. The ramen was decent. I was not a big fan of the char siu on top- it was chewy and dry. I had to swallow hard to gulp it down. Okay place if you need a fix of ramen but in my opinion, nothing to write home about. read more

We live closer to a hand full of other ramen places, but we still prefer this ramen place and have been here several times. The prices are reasonable and the food is always ready around 10-15 minutes after we call, which is great considering some ramen places closer to us can take up to 20-30 minutes. Additionally, the toppings are fresh and don't seem to run out like at other ramen places we've tried. We always order similar things when we come here: the miso or shoyu soup base, mild spice, tofu, black garlic set and the Tonkotsu, mild spice, chasu, black garlic set. The portions are always generous and the flavor just right. We really appreciate that the black garlic set comes with a side of grounded black sesame where we can choose as much or as little as we'd like. We also appreciate that the food is always still very hot and flavorful and that we don't have to worry about anything missing from our food. For appetizers, we've had the crab rangoons, the fried oysters, and the chicken karagge. The chicken karagge could be crispier, but it is still good. The crab Rangoons are standard but always crispy. My partner loves the kaki fry (fried oysters) here. We don't have any complaints about this restaurant and are glad that it is pretty close to us! read more

This is my go-to place for ramen. I found this place on a rainy day when I was craving something hot and comforting, and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! I ordered the Miso Ramen and it came packed with flavors and toppings. The spiciness was just right to warm me up on a cold day. The egg was perfectly jammy and the chashu was delicious too. I took the broth and heated it up, threw in the noodles with other ingredients, poured it into a bowl and went to town. Ramen 101 is on top of my list for consistency and efficiency. Because of that I've ordered from here on multiple occasions for takeout and they deliver each time in a timely manner. I've ordered from them seamlessly through UberEats and GrubHub and the pickup time is always spot on. The food quality matches the rest of their standards. It always taste fresh to me and most importantly delicious. They offer affordable prices for the amount of food they serve you. The staff members are very friendly every time I go pick up my order. The orders are accurate and everything is nicely packed. The miso soup base here is excellent. It's got a tiny bit of spice to it and its very flavorful. Everything is packed in separate containers to prevent to noodles from getting soggy. I'm looking forward to eating it at the restaurant in person where all the ingredients are mixed in for you and when it's the freshest. I honestly have not tried a dish here that I disliked yet. The chicken rice is delicious, the chashu rice is delicious and the unagi with rice is delicious as well. The only thing I didn't enjoy too much was the batter on the chicken karage. I thought the batter was a bit thick and heavy. But I really like the sauce it came with and the chicken itself was seasoned very well. Ramen 101 is great for takeout or delivery. The size of the restaurant is on the smaller scale but there are a few outdoor tables that can fit maybe 3-4 people. Seating inside is limited especially with COVID.
