    Fish sandwich and green beans
    Shaun J.

So fun! Parking is a little chaotic, but it's worth it. The menu is straightforward and the fish sandwiches are huge. No frills, just awesome fish. I had the green beans. If you miss high school, these green beans will transport you back in time. Not a fan of the styrofoam plates, though. This place just feels like home. I am sure we were the only out of towners there. It was the highlight of my trip so far. If you like fish and real people, this is the place.

Great service. Fish sandwich was big but it wasn't my anything special IMO it needed more flavor. Great green beans. Nice looking pies.

Fried Potatoes, Mac and Cheese and Green Beans

This is a great local place for fried fish and tenderloins, filled with regulars. As you walk in the door, look right and grab a tray, some napkins and plastic silverware, and take a look down the line at the cold sides and desserts to see if anything strikes your fancy. Then move your tray down to the other side, where you can see the fried fish, tenderloins, and cafeteria-style hot sides. There's a menu board immediately overhead. I always get the FISH PLATTER, which is delicately fried mild catfish piled high on a plate. The green beans, mac and cheese, and potatoes are usually available as hot sides, and are good choices. The TENDERLOINS are huge. The dining area is like a trip back in time, and includes an interesting old promotional map of Columbus from the 80s that I am completely jealous of. They don't oversalt their food here, but there are salt and pepper shakers on the table for you to get your spice on if you wish. You'll definitely feel like a local here, and will leave satisfied.

The building sits on the banks of Driftwood River (now called East Fork White River) and offers spectacular views of the famous Robert N. Stewart Bridge in Columbus, Indiana. Upland Brewing Company is a local brewery that started in Bloomington, Indiana in 1998. Now, they have a number of popular restaurants/pubs across Indiana. The building, built in 1871, served as the Pump House supplying water to the city of Columbus, Indiana. The Pump House faced financial, water and quality challenges over the years, but was instrumental in industrial growth of the city. The Pump House operated until 1950, when the city moved to well water. The Pump House served a number of businesses and organizations since 1950. Upland opened the pub in 2016. We were greeted and promptly seated in the bar when we entered. Our server/bartender, Jess, was attentive and friendly. Several other servers also engaged with us, as well. One brought me a fascinating pamphlet describing the history of the building because I was curious. We arrived in time to sample their 3:00 - 5:00 pm Happy Hour. (I love a good Happy Hour.) We ordered Dragonfly IPAs, which went down smooth on a hot summer day. We also enjoyed a couple of sliders from the Happy Hour menu. The Bad Elmer's Fav burger was good with lots of bacon but my favorite was the Hoosier Tenderloin. I should note that much of the food is locally sourced. The building has a large dining room, bar, private dining, private event room, and a fabulous patio with river views. The landscaping is gorgeous. Their signature beers are available for purchase to go along with the logo shirt and a few other logo items. I highly recommend a visit. The food and beer are first class. The setting is lovely and service is attentive.

Pretty inside but also on the inside I had a disaster experience .... Well I've eaten here once…read morebefore and it was awesome but this time it wasn't. Matter of fact I'm not sure if I want to go back. We were sat in an almost empty restaurant but that was most likely because of time of day (around 2). Our waitress though took awhile to come greet us. She took our orders and to start off on a wrong foot our 2 cocktails and WATERS took over 10 minutes to come out. I know this because I had a text I had sent and being aggravated I went back and looked at the time when I sent it . Later on our appetizers came out. It was about 20ish minutes after our order went in. Then our food came about 5 minutes after that giving us little room left on the table. I know it was an almost 45 minute wait to get everything. I ordered the blackened chicken which was amazing my first visit a couple months previously but this time it was dry and definitely blackened .... AKA burnt! The manager was checking on the other tables she had with an additional waitress running around so I assume our waitress wasn't the only one taking care of them (4 as seen in picture actually) and when he popped by to ask how everything was he took my plate to remake it. 15ish MORE minutes go by and I asked the waitress if she could check on my food and she said 'well chicken takes a while to cook'. In disbelief I jokingly said I can make it faster at home so please just get mine to-go since my parents were already done and had been done for awhile. We got to-go boxes for their leftovers and my food came out shortly after . We received $ 40 off without asking so I appreciated getting something for 1 1/2 hours waiting in a nearly empty restaurant and no meal. I went home and when I went to heat up my food AGAIN the chicken was charred and extremely dry. I ate the sweet corn farrotto which was atleast good and trashed the chicken. Since it was now dinner time I made my own meal With the time and overall poorly done meal(s?) I had I think I'll avoid it happening again by just going elsewhere. It's a shame because we went here with a party of 8 previously and they did so good. We were honestly thinking this would be our spot for special occasions after that but it's likely not worth it since the manager and chef left us hanging and yet again served something subpar. I'd of hoped they make absolutely sure my simple chicken dish was correct the second time around I didn't take a pictures of food we got unfortunately. Our appetizers looked and tasted good but they were eaten quickly because we were starving by the time they came out around 3 so no time for those pictures either. I was then too busy sending my food back and eating appetizers. Once my chicken came out togo we all just wanted out of there! Then once I got home I was too aggravated and gave up any reason to go get my phone I suppose. Why bother? They didn't bother to make it right after all except to give us some $ off but I still wasted my time that day and again when I got home making my own food . The manager will definitely remember this disaster though

So when we got to Columbus, we headed here first. It's basically a dive bar with a little restaurant attached, which is super fun. The server was super friendly and helpful - he got us seated and grabbed drinks immediately. My dad obviously knew what he wanted, but the rest of us needed a moment. Go for the fried pickles! They were so good that we didn't even have a chance to take a pic. The breading was super flavorful and crunchy, and if you're a fan, definitely get them. Half of us got the pork tenderloin sandwich, the others got fish and chips. Everything was really good - I liked them both, and they were both accompanied by great French fries. Enjoyable spot for lunch!

We ordered 3 tenderloin sandwiches and two fish and chips lunches. Lunch was underwhelming. The meat on the sandwiches wasn't dry or tough, but, there was no seasoning to speak of and therefore, pretty tasteless. Salt, ketchup, pickles, hot sauce, these were the condiments used by those three diners to give their sandwiches some flavor. Sad. The fish and chips were good. The fish needs salt, which is a whole lot better than being overly salty. And the fries were well salted and very good. The beer selection is good and all the beer drinkers enjoyed their drinks. Service was excellent and we enjoyed meeting our server. Nice young man who was friendly and pleasant.

The service was very helpful deciding what to order. The setting was fun down town indanopolis feel. The lobster roll was definitely the standout. It was packed with fresh, flavorful lobster and had a nice balance of buttery richness without feeling too heavy. You can tell the seafood is high quality, which makes a huge difference. The lobster deviled eggs were super unique and honestly one of my favorite bites. Creamy, slightly tangy, and topped with lobster--it's not something you see everywhere, and they executed it really well. My husband tried the shrimp burrito, which was great for a seafood spot. It was hearty, well-seasoned, and filled generously. It didn't feel like an afterthought on the menu. To finish, the cheesecake was a great choice it was from the cheesecake factory is what the offered for my birthday smooth, rich, and just the right level of sweetness with a strawberry topping to end the meal without being overwhelming. Overall, Slap's Fish Market delivers on both creativity and quality. It's a great spot if you want fresh seafood with a few fun, unexpected twists. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

I feel like most seafood places will have vegetarian options by way of removing the fish from pasta dishes or salad, but it's also nice to know that you can get chicken as a substitute on most of these kinds of dishes, too. Granted, it's just like chicken tenders, but still good nonetheless. I really like their firecracker pasta, which is moderately spicy in my opinion. There's no particular fishy smell here, which is always a good sign that the seafood they serve here is freshly prepared. Our food always comes out quickly for lunch and we've been a group as large as 8 or 9. I do believe that ordering is mostly done online in their mass Ave location, though. I don't really seek out a place like Slapfish on my own (no offense at all, just not a seafood girlie!!), but I would assume that it's a rather popular establishment as they recently opened a fifth location in the greater Indy area. If I did like fish and such more, I'd probably be here on a more regular rotation.

Pretty much everything from the middle "shared plate and veggie" section. My wife and I split a super rich and tasty lamb bolognese. Again, the star of the show was the service and welcoming environment. It's just nice that they also performed on a stage of superbly prepared edibles. Would go again with a big group and maybe get a sitter so we're not leaving a trail of american cheese bits leaving an extra large tip to offset the accidental middle American Hansel and Gretel vibe.
