Had dinner last night with a friend for her birthday. She always tells me how much she absolutely loves emperors kitchen. It's probably been about 20 years since I've been there. I was really excited to try their egg rolls because I have heard from many others that they're pretty fantastic. So I ordered shrimp low for dinner and asked if I could get a spicy sauce with it which they obliged. The dinner came with a shrimp and pork eggroll and hot tea. The egg roll was absolutely fantastic! It's quite a nice size egg roll with a perfectly crispy outer wrap and amazing flavor on the inside. It was stuffed with cabbage, pork, shrimp and amazing spices. My friend ordered the sweet and sour shrimp which was phenomenal! They use jumbo shrimp and the coding around it is delicious and crispy and the sweet and sour adds to it perfectly. She doesn't care for green peppers so she ordered it without green peppers and extra pineapple which was so sweet and delicious. The portion sizes are quite large and for the money a really excellent value! Our service was fantastic all of the staff was super nice and very attentive. I can't wait to go back! We enjoy dining in and carry out. Food is good and portions are very large. Great having leftovers. Service for us has always been good.

First off, we almost didn't go here, the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and we didn't see it! I wish we kept driving! I hate to write a poor review, but I have to. We went here recently and I got the worst food poisoning of my life! My son ate the fried rice that was perched on top of a precarious cake plate looking server. I'm surprised half of it didn't fall to the floor walking it to the table. My husband got the tomato pepper beef, which was good. I was the only one who ate the chicken almond ding. The chicken tasted like a different texture than I was used to, and it wasn't pleasant. (They told me it was boiled, then pan fried. I don't like boiled foods). The almonds were plentiful. It worried all of us how long our meal took to come out, after the soups and egg rolls. It was probably 25-30 minutes of a wait and the place was not packed. My son can NOT wait that long!! We also felt this restaurant was on the expensive side. The chairs were rock hard. If you have any sort of medical problem like I do, please bring a pad! ROCK....HARD.... I did not feel sick at all before coming here, within 1 hour of leaving this place I felt off. I chalked it up to too much oil. The next day, I couldn't look at food at our free continental breakfast at the hotel. For lunch, I had more of the Chinese not thinking that could be the culprit. BAM! For two days, I felt sicker than a dog. Nothing would make me better and I PRAYED to throw up. It never happened. No drugs worked and it ruined our 2 day trip to Wisconsin. Upon telling the manager at the hotel, he told me that he has heard nothing but poor reviews off of this place, especially getting sick. Eat their chicken or other dishes with extreme caution and beware ALL Chinese buffets for fried rice syndrome: a bacteria that grows on rice that's been sitting around too long (google it!). Our meal was not buffet though. I wish I went to Stir Crazy or the family restaurant down the road. They gave me a partial refund and apologized but I still can't rate them over 1 star for how sick I felt. It was just MISERABLE. Please avoid. read more

THE BEST quality - always my favorite place to get Chinese!! I've moved away and still haven't found anyplace as good as Emperor's Kitchen. My faves are the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, the Sesame Chicken (never any gross pieces, unlike most other Chinese places), and of course the egg rolls. A solid Chinese restaurant in the area. They have a good variety that encompasses a variety of Chinese cuisines. It's a bit pricier than Chinese take-out, but the quality and the size of the portions certainly make up for it (a standard "meal" can easily be stretched out to a couple more meals if you decide to take your leftovers home, or you could bring a friend and split one meal). They also offer a buffet, but I actually haven't tried that. Personally, I'm a sucker for the Szechuan Shrimp dinner, but the Orange Chicken is also excellent. The crab rangoon and eggrolls are great for appetizers. And, of course, you get a fortune cookie. I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area and need a good Chinese fix. read more

Forget quotes, forget analogies, this is just good frickin' food, plain and simple. Emperor's Kitchen's 10-item buffet clearly had the highest quality food of any buffet we had been to, but it causes a dilemma. Are we going to be stuck in a rut with the rest of our blogs with constant comparison to the best as we write, "This place is good, but it's not Emperor's Kitchen." Despite what I wrote above, an analogy comes to mind. While Snob and his wife were engaged, his wife's cousin jokingly said to him, "To be in this family, you need to summit a mountain." Actually, he was wrong, Snob was going to marry her no matter what, but the adventure sounded fun. At the peak of Mt. Adam's, looking down at Mt. St. Helen's, across to Mt. Hood and up to Mt. Rainier, Snob thought, "Ok, I can say I've reached the peak of a legitimate mountain, this is pretty cool." Well, any big hill/small mountain after that didn't compare. Is that going to happen to our cherished Chinese buffets? Brookfield's Emperor's Kitchen really emphasizes the importance of providing high quality, hot and fresh food. The second-story dining room provides the buffeter with a naturally lit eating area surrounded by windows that overlook, well a parking lot, but the natural light was nice. The waitress was great... we've never seen someone work so hard for very small tips. She was always there when needed, and never there when not wanted. Perfect. The food trays are placed in a free-standing buffet that is in the shape of a Chinese sailing vessel and consistently filled with fresh food. It reminded us of those travelling food shows when they go to some harbor in China and are served in their boat by a sailing chef passing by. We remember at one point over-hearing one diner near us say, "That was delish." While we don't EVER condone the use of the word 'delish' we definitely agree with that diner, that meal was delicious (not hard to add that extra syllable). Slob's tweet (@chinesebuffeter) sums it up: "Yeah, I just went for a plate too much. This is the one that'll make me sick." This is what we agree on: 1. Great management and a waitress we don't remember at all (always a positive) but always seemed to be there when she was needed. I cannot think of a higher compliment. I just came back from a horrible evening at emperors kitchen. We had the worst hospitality in service. Our waitress was rude, condescending, and she forgot about our table several times throughout the evening. I got to the resteraunt at 7:15 and I just got home. We waited FOREVER. Hands down, Emperor's Kitchen is my ultimate Chinese go-to restaurant. A big portion of this could be nostalgia, but I feel like I've tried so many different Chinese restaurants and none of them have come even close to EK. Why do I love EK so much? Let me count the ways ... 1. Time saved on waiting: they have so many take-out orders that the restaurant is rarely busy on a Friday or Saturday night 2. Take-out speed: I've ordered a ridiculous amount of food from here and it's always (and I mean always) ready in 20 minutes 3. Best crab rangoon: No doubt, this is the best crab rangoon in the entire area. It's not too cream-cheesy that I don't taste any crab, but it's not too crabby where I taste no cream cheese. Plus it's fried in such a light batter that you really enjoy the flavors. Of course it's deep fried, so expect it to be a little oily 4. Best friend rice: This is my kind of fried rice. It's freakin' awesome 5. Best egg roll: Similar to the crab rangoon it has a lighter batter than other Chinese restaurants. The filling in the egg rolls is incredibly tasty 5. Ordering off the menu: I love orange chicken (thanks to my unhealthy obsession with Panda Express). I don't think orange chicken is on the menu (at least it used to not be) but when I first ordered it they were more than happy to serve me up a healthy portion 6. Speaking of serving size: It's ridiculous. You order an entrée of anything here and you're set for days After writing up this review I'm drooling thinking of how great it is. I have always liked this place. It is a very interesting location right in the heart of Brookfield. It is a nice place to eat at. The food is really good, the vegetables are always very fresh, and takeout is quick. I had a takeout lunch buffet today, and I split it with a colleague I sent to get it. He walked away with so much food, I almost felt bad when I saw it. They give you a Styrofoam container, a rice container, and a soup container. There was a lot of good variety on the buffet, including pepper chicken, mild general tsos, hot and sour soup, fried rice, a really good barbecue noodles, and crab Rangoon. It was less than $8, and there still is another meal worth of food. read more

Before I moved out of state this was an awesome restaurant. Great food and service. While here on business, tonight I was seated and was given a menu. I sat for almost 10 minutes with no one coming by. A table of 3 who came in after me and were seated directly behind me had their orders taken. Another minute goes buy and I decide I'll just do takeout. When I shared my feedback, the lady who I believe may own it was concerned enough to apologize especially because they were not very busy. The restaurant was about 80% empty. So I'm heading back to the hotel with my take-out order hoping it will be as good as I remembered. Update: the food was exactly as I recalled - delicious. Going forward When I'm back in town for business I will continue to get takeout here as the food is very good and the front desk staff is great. While we were waiting for the extremely slow service, two couples walked out, which should have been a sign right there that we should have done the same. Worst cut of beef for the Mongolian beef I've ever tasted, rubbery and fatty. The Cantonese chicken tasted like someone just microwaved the pieces of chicken and placed a bunch of chopped vegetables on top to look like they actually did something to it. No seasoning whatsoever was wasted on that dish. When our drinks were finally brought over, the waitress proceeded to spill half of the beer on the table. At check out, when the manager asked me how everything was, I did tell him the dishes were sub par, to say the least, and he proceeded to do absolutely NOTHING about it. I moved to the New Berlin/Brookfield area about two years ago. Very hard to find decent chinese food around here until I found this place. Now every Tuesday I come in and get the hunan chicken for a take out order. I am giving that 5 stars becasue it is always perfect and I never have to wait long. I cant say on the other food they have or on the the dining in part but the staff always has been very nice to me when I come in. read more

They have a great lunch time buffet but I got the sesame chicken as takeout, which was delicious. I could have used a bit more sauce, but the chicken was juicy and the flavor was great. Food is mediocre but what really upset me is the fact that there was no rice with our take out order. It really sucked having to eat two dishes with zero rice. I had even asked when I ordered if it came with rice and they said yes. The pancakes that came with the moo shu were dry and hard and just crumbled when you tried to fold them. Most places put them in Saran Wrap or wax paper so they don't dry out but they just shoved them in a box. Very disappointing. Had yet another delicious Saturday buffet lunch on March 25. The main reason I go is because the delicious, crispy, and substantial egg rolls are available - even cut in half, they are huge. That, plus the light, tasty egg drop soup (not thick and gloppy like so many restaurants) and the shrimp subgum, loaded with shrimp, are also there for the taking. My friend ordered off the menu, having an, excuse the pun, yen for lemon chicken - she reported that the lemon sauce was the perfect tartness and not a thick, sugary lemon syrup. The fact that it was served on shredded lettuce was new to her, but she liked that rather than upping her carb intake with rice. The place was packed, giving testament to what a popular place the Emperor's Kitchen continues to be. And, lucky for me, close to home! read more

This is a great place to order take out from, and its usually ready within 10-15 minutes. My favorite thing to order is the lemon chicken, they usually give really big portions and I always have left overs. I wish the inside was a little more updated and inviting. The big buffet boat is cool but I'm never there when it's in use so I always look at it and feel like I missed the party. The front counter has this display glass filled with towels, rubber gloves and other kinds of storage items that are unappealing to look at and kind of cheapen the vibe. read more

I can only write my review from the point of view of the lunch buffet, but I've gone here several times for lunch and my experience has always been somewhere between the three to four star range. The only reason that I went with the three instead of the four is because of that inconsistancy of being between a three and a four! They don't have a huge selection on their buffet, but still enough variety. They don't have white rice on the buffet but little signs let you know that you can order it directly from your server. The food is Americanized Chinese food, but good. The service is friendly and attentive, although sometimes it can be a little slow. read more

With egg rolls on the menu (which are normally fried) it seemed only fitting that the spring rolls would be with the rice paper because otherwise they're the exact same. But nope, they were fried. I was visiting the Milwaukee area and wanted some Chinese takeout. I chose this place because many of the reviews said the takeout was fast. Therefore, I was very surprised when the woman on the phone said it would take thirty minutes for my order to be ready. To me, that's slow. I arrived after twenty minutes thinking that nobody could be that slow....and had to wait ten minutes for the food. So, don't go there for the fast takeout. I got the combination fried rice. It was good but nothing to write home about. On the plus side, I asked for it to be extra, extra spicy. Being from Texas, I didn't think it would be all that hot but it was. I also ordered a couple of egg rolls. They were larger than I usually see in Chinese restaurants. This is my favorite Chinese food place. By far. The food is tasty and not greasy. They put small touches into the food that set it apart from other Chinese food restaurants. As a brand new customer, I walked in this afternoon with high hopes. There was a blond woman behind the counter speaking loudly on the phone. She was brusque with me, dismissive, barely answering my questions, then she continued speaking on the phone, with her RELATIVES! I overheard her ( everybody heard her ) saying how SICK she felt, and didn't want to spread germs around. This was in the Restaurant! I walked out right away, didn't need to even taste the food!
