I've been here twice within the last two weeks. Once with a friend, once with my husband, cousins and best friend. Delicious both times, possibly even better the second time. Service is friendly and attentive. The cold apps we ordered came out quickly, the entrees took a little longer, but that tells me they're actually preparing the food and not just heating it up. Fine by me! The spicy feta dip and tzatziki were my favorites, but I also loved the Shrimp Santorini (orzo, shrimp, tomato sauce, baked feta) and the bite of my husband's moussaka I had was great. I guess for the UES it's not bad but I would head downtown or across the water in Astoria for much better food. Came to Yefsi toward the end of the usual workday lunch period, and had pretty good Greek food! The Yefsi Chips were good, the tzatziki sauce was tangy and creamy. The Greek meatballs tasted good, filled with herbs and spices. And the platter came with a nice sampling of various side dishes, from a salad and french fries to toasted pita. I first visited Yefsi Estiatorio on Christmas Eve 2024 and had an amazing experience, great food and wonderful service. I ordered the chicken with lemon potatoes and it was so good that I couldn't stop thinking about it for an entire year. I was genuinely excited to come back. Unfortunately, my visit on New Year's Eve this year was a complete contrast. From the moment we sat down, our server seemed irritated and unwelcoming. He didn't checked on us, never offered drink refills, and didn't ask if we needed anything else. What stood out the most was that he was very friendly and attentive with the table next to us, while barely interacting with us at all. When we were ready to pay, he dropped the check without a word, didn't say thank you or have a good night, and immediately checked the tip before avoiding eye contact as we left. While the food was still excellent, the service left a really bad impression. I hate that this was my experience because I loved this place the first time and truly wanted to come back regularly. Yefsi accommodated our large party dinner and gave us the back/backyard covered area. We got a pre-fixe menu which were limited options from the main menu. However the dishes for apps included calamari, octopus, Greek salad and a mezze platter. All were delicious! For entrees, I opted for the salmon and green beans. I'm not familiar with the UES, so I went on Pulsd to see if I could snag a last-minute reservation for brunch with a friend. After looking at the menu, online we decided to go to Yefsi. From the minute we sat down to when we left, I felt so at home. Our waitress and a man that I believe was the owner or manger were so hospitable. Our Pulsd included bottomless mimosas, and our waitress was very on top of refilling our glasses. We started off w the bread and dip such was delicious. My friend and I both opted for brunch sandwiches, she got the lamb and I got halloumi which were both served with fries and salad. Delicious. Note that if you're paying with a Pulsd, they don't add any extra fees, so be a good person and tip in cash or order a coffee or something so you can leave a tip! read more

My friend and I had a lovely dinner here. The space inside was warm and intimate, with an inviting vibe. We were served rustic bread with what seemed to be homemade hummus. The bread was nice and soft. For my meal, I selected the Lamb Shank, which was served with Lazanki noodles in a tomato cinnamon sauce. The Lamb Shank was quite impressive in size in a bed of tasty looking noodles with shredded cheese on top, along with fresh rosemary in the center. The Lamb Shank was oh so tender, well seasoned with incredible depth of flavor. The pasta was cooked perfectly and I even enjoyed the sauce (usually not a fan of tomato based sauces). I liked that it had a strong cinnamon taste. My friend and I shared the Small Dessert Platter, which was such a great deal... For $15, we got to sample all 4 desserts. There were Karidopita (Greek walnut sponge cake with honey syrup), Baklava, Galatoboureko (Vanilla custard in phyllo pastry), and finally, Greek yogurt. My favorite was the Karidopita, which was absolutely delicious sticky sweet honey essence cake. The Baklava was crunchy, light, filled with crushed walnuts and glazed with syrupy honey. The Galatoboureko had a wonderful soft, creamy, custardy center and layers of outer dough. Last, the Greek Yogurt came with walnuts, Quince preserves, and more honey. This was a delightful combination. The smooth, milky yogurt paired well with the fruity, almost cherry-like preserves and the honey gave it an added level of yumminess. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I might return at some point for the Baby Lamb Chops or Mousaka. read more

Wonderful place and wonderful service. I went to Yefsi with a group of 10, and we were able to have our own private patio area with reservation in advance. The place itself is nestled in the quieter UES, but the inside was so popular and packed with people. The atmosphere was lively, but it still felt intimate with each table having its own candlelit space to itself. Lights and Christmas decorations are also currently in full swing! The food was amazing. For the prices, you definitely get a lot of food and feel full afterwards. I ordered the Arni Youvetsi. The lamb came right off the bone, and the sauces were perfect combination. I tried other dishes such as the Soutzoukakia--really flavorful and filling. The service was also great--the chef and owner himself checked in on our table and asked how we all were. Waiters were so attentive too and checked in on us periodically. Overall, Yefsi is a great and warm place to have an intimate dinner or a larger table of friends. The place is busy, so I would make reservations in advance. The lights and candlelit atmosphere sets a more romantic, intimate setting. I definitely recommend the Arni Youvetsi if you like lamb. Otherwise, all things are so flavorful whichever you choose. Yesterday I returned to Yefsi for the calamari, and I have to downgrade the restaurant. In 1 month the calamari went from the best I ever had to the worst. It was tough and unchewable. I think it should have been obvious that I didn't like the food because most of it was on a plate and not in my stomach, but neither the bartender nor anyone else bothered to notice or ask if I was enjoying myself. The only positive was that the breading was good, and they also served some complimentary bread with a spread which was tasty. The glass of white wine I had was nice. Probably time to move on though. Things that I liked: We were warmly greeted when we arrived. The staff was very gracious. The ambiance was lovely. Lots of wood and cozy tables. This would be a great spot in the winter. There is a light and bright space in the rear. It's air conditioned and feels like a sun porch. It was very nice for a summer evening with a threat of possible rain. We ordered a bunch of mezze so we could try things. Our favorites were the shrimp in a tomato sauce with feta, the spinach fritters, lemon potatoes, and the dips. Great authentic Greek spot on the UES! They have outdoor seating in the front on the sidewalk along with a cute patio in the back. Make sure to make a reservation as their outdoor seating is limited. I came here on a weeknight with my girlfriend and quickly fell in love with the place. The vibes of this restaurant are pretty laid back; everyone eating at the restaurant was dressed very informally. But don't let that fool you. The food is worthy of a date night. We got the lamb chops with lemon potatoes, spinach rice, calamari, and...tbh I can't remember if what we had was the branzino or the other white fish they had on the menu, but it was delicious. The lamb chops were so good I almost wished we had just gotten two plates of that instead of sharing it! Having a bite of the lamb chops with a bite of the lemon potatoes was heavenly. I didn't expect the lemon potatoes to be left whole, but I promise the potatoes are perfectly tender and easy to slice through. A few things. 1. Crab is definitely not included, you get a different cut down menu with Pulsd. 2. You are not allowed to grab different kind of drinks for the bottomless. You choose one and stick to it. 3. The bottomless drinks get less and less strong. By my 3rd glass, there was barely any alcohol in it. The head waiter was extremely inconsiderate, he asked me multiple times if I was "sure" I wanted another drink. Not the greatest thing to ask someone who was completely sober after 4 drinks. 5. I left a 20% tip based off of a full Pulsd value, but the head waiter was extremely snarky after he saw the $15 tip. 6. The food was amazing, make sure you get the lamb sandwich, absolutely heavenly. The overall meal, though, with the fries and salad, was yummy and filling. We went on a Sunday and service is a little all over the place, but they did seem very short staffed for the amount of people there. Also they have a weird rule about only one type of drink per person, so if you try switching a Bloody Mary to mimosa, you might be met with hesitancy. Beat Greek spot on UES. We had the zucchini croquettes and grilled octopus to start. The croquettes were fried perfectly and the octopus had a good glamor and texture. For main courses, we had the baby lamb chops and the linguini with braised veal. The lamb chops were good and the lemon potatoes that came with it were great. Braised veal and linguini were also good as well (not as saucy as Italian food). For dessert we had the baklava. Definitely the best baklava I've had in the city. The portion was generous and it was very flaky. Drinks were pretty good too. The Greek Negroni was made well and fairly priced. Overall, a good Greek spot. A little on the pricey end (I think the lamb chop could have cost a little less or they could have added 1 extra chop to justify the $42 price), but not too outrageous. Takeaway: impeccable service. I never had to wait more than a few seconds to get someone's attention, and this time going it was a solo dining experience. I sat in the more secluded back garden area, which would have been a quiet delight if not for the entertainment I received overhearing UES family squabbles. Hah. I got the lamb, but all of the food looked and smelled fresh so it was hard to choose. I ordered the lamb Kebab chefs choice/medium rare and it came out beautifully, just as it should. Even the rice had tons of flavor, and the whole meal was so filling I really couldn't do dessert. (Though i did end up getting fro-yo a few blocks away). I have been to many, including Astoria, and this was the worst. The service was very good, the restaurant was very dark and not inviting except for the back which looked like we were sitting outside. Unfortunately, the food was unacceptable. We ordered the pikilia which was mostly pieces of pita. The three spreads, a mere tablespoon of each, didn't taste like Greek spreads! We ordered the lightly fried calamari and it was served with a dip of sour cream, plain sour cream, maybe it was plain yogurt. That I've never seen in all of the calamari I've eaten.
