What a welcome addition to Sutton Place! There's been a hole in my heart since Coco Pazzeria closed...went to La Terra last night about 8:15, which is late for the area. It's a decent sized space with a bar and a front and back seating area. The restaurant still had ppl eating which is unusual for the area/time of night, but took this as a very good sign. We ordered a round- wine and a lemon drop martini which was very good. As much as I loved Coco, it wasn't for their drinks. Our meal was delish- my friend ordered the linguine with clams and I had the eggplant with cheese (very similar to eggplant parm) and a side of broccoli rabe. Was very impressed with the quality of food, and that it was reasonably priced. Service was good too...Will be back! read more

This being said I would definitely recommend a visit to La Terra. The lasagna was excellent. My appetizer were soft shell crab, excellent. Stuffed figs and my main dish was a nicely cooked halibut. Celebratory lunch, new restaurant - perfect opportunity. First impression is clean, welcoming, and tables set decently apart. Our friendly knowledgeable server alerted us both to her faves and diners'. Standard bread, silky olive oil. Meatball appetizer just right, rich tomato sauce. I should have ordered orichetti with sausage and broccolini...next time. In-house lasagna was deeply flavored. Ethereal fried zucchini, could not stop eating it. Our server pointed out desserts created inhouse- we chose tiramisu (perfectly classic, not too sweet) and pistachio creme brûlée (exceptionally silky and luscious, truthfully I couldn't discern pistachio but it was fabulous anyway). Such an amazing experience start to finish! La Terra is immediately so welcoming and comfortable - like you've been going there for years (I can't believe they just opened!) - while still feeling elegant and sophisticated... a tough balance to master. The staff is so kind and service is fast but not rushed at all, even though it was completely full. It's the perfect neighborhood spot that isn't trying too hard, isn't there for the influencers (phew!), and brings the community together. Now for the food! Incredible, authentic, and matches the vibe of the space - warm and comforting, but still lively and fresh. We sat at the bar which is always my go-to. Absolutely loved our bartender and my martini was PERFECT (and I'm particular!). We loved every dish, zero misses, but my favorites were the meatballs, orecchiette with sausage, and the pistachio creme brulee for dessert. Soooo good! Update to 5 stars. Even in a couple of weeks they've made it even better. They still don't have liquor license so it's BYOB. We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and accommodating. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday and by 7pm, the place was full. We split the watermelon salad, grilled octopus and they accommodated our request for a primavera even though it's not on the menu. The food was good. No complaints there. The dessert was good, but nothing spectacular. My espresso Martini had absolutely no vodka in it whatsoever. I would never go back for one very simple, but aggravating reason Every 3 to 5 minutes the waiter kept coming over to take our order. We sat down saying we were going to sit for a bit before ordering. They came over three times before our drinks even arrived! It was so annoying. At one point one waiter left and another one came over to ask if we wanted to order yet. It was so frustrating and so incredibly annoying. We hadn't finished eating and they were getting ready to take our plates. We weren't in a 'time slot' reservation. The aggravation is not worth the food. The food was good, but there are plenty of restaurants that have good food. I am one and done with this restaurant. I will never be returning. read more

From the moment we arrived, our party of four was treated with warmth and impeccable service. We arrived for our reservation at 7pm and were seated immediately. The restaurant was full of chatting people but the noise level was low. I easily heard our conversation during our meal. The decor was earthy and warm. The dining experience was relaxed and full of wonderful taste! While we waited on our three appetizers (grilled baby octopus with broccoli rabe, sautéed in garlic and olive oil, artichoke hearts with pistachios and Parmigiano cheese, and prosciutto and mozzarella wrapped asparagus), we enjoyed olives and cheese and yummy bread with olive oil. The appetizers arrived and the conversation stilled. My favorite of the three (and it was a stiff competition) was the appetizer special: prosciutto and mozzarella wrapped asparagus. Hope this joins the menu as a regular! We sampled each others entrées, enabling me to sample one of the specials, fettuccini with lobster, while enjoying my salmon and asparagus, in addition to sampling the lamb ragú papperdelle, and killer spaghetti. The balance of taste in each dish was exquisite. And yes, we had desert which we shared with each other. I went with the roasted almond cake with chocolate sauce and whipped cream (going this have this one again). Fantastic new Italian restaurant - food was delicious with big portions, service even better and despite being super busy it looked like tables were turning over well. BYOB at the moment as they're sorting out their liquor license but that makes it even better in my book! The restaurant is very busy and reservations are a must. We sat at the bar since we had no reservations. Noise level was loud, service prompt. My swordfish was perfectly cooked (which is no easy feat) . My friend's pasta was excellent. Large portion and not over sauces. The appetizers were disappointing . The fried zucchini flowers unrecognizable. The coating was off, too thick and the flowers looked like chicken wings but were tasty. The artichoke with white beans were also disappointing. Sadly did not have many beans, the beans were absolutely delicious only wish there were more of them. The dish included pancetta (or maybe chorizo) that was not listed on the menu. The meat should have been omitted since it detracted from the artichokes and beans . Overall we enjoyed our meal, next time consider salad as a starter. read more
