The atmosphere: The outdoor patio and the front dining room is very cute and cozy. We don't recommend the back room too dark and secluded. We loved the vibe of the main dining area and patio - they had candles lit, the walls are black and there are a ton of windows bringing in natural lighting. The service: We visited during Labor Day weekend and it was packed! Our waitress never checked on us and we waited over 30 minutes to receive the check. We sat there with our to - go bag, that we received from another staff member just waiting, another server ended up printing our bill for us. We noticed other tables waiting along time to put their orders in. So if you go on a busy day just be patient and have time to spare. The food: We highly recommend the nacho appetizer it was delicious and super filling. We also tried the chicken tortilla soup it was amazing! The steak tacos are pretty good. The only thing we weren't blown away by was the Ribeye which is disappointing since it was the most expensive entree we ordered. The pineapple cider beer is good!! Sweet place with huge outdoor patio! We sat indoors, though, because we were told service would be faster and we were so hungry! Our great waitress, Lacy, explained the specials. The Trio from the sea was grilled salmon, grilled Mahi (dry), and butterflies grilled shrimp with a spicey sauce. Salad and broccoli were the sides. My hubby enjoyed a pumpkin martini, very desserty. We visited on Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately the restaurant was either understaffed or poorly managed. The hostess was repeatedly saying the servers were yelling at him for seating people at their tables because they were slammed. Once we finally got a table, the server come right away and we ordered. However, we never saw her again after she brought the food. I got the tacos, and they were just ok. My partner's meal was great though. For those passing through or living in Carlsbad, I'd be inclined to give them another try in hopes they solve their management problem. read more

Very cool place! Make sure you are hungry because the portions are big. We got the calamari (always try it whenever we can) and it was fabulous. They even had toasted veggies with it. To qualify this review, Sunday night is a tough night to get dinner out in Carlsbad, so the restaurant was busy, though we were seated nearly right away by the distracted hostess. I got a bad feeling when I noted that most tables in the area we were seated in were still looking at their menus, but there was a lot of staff bustling around. After that we sat and sat and sat and sat. After 20 minutes without so much as a hello, and the bustling staff clearly ignoring our gaze, we left. Hearty and satisfying fare, especially if you've spent the day exploring the nearby Carlsbad Caverns. The restaurant is in the center of the downtown area and the menu has a variety of options for salads and warm dishes. Each menu item had surprisingly little description - with listings like "Mediterranean Salad" or "Cobb Salad" and no explanation of what is in the dishes. However, when asked the servers can provide a more satisfying description of the dishes. We split the Nachos Grande, which came with pulled chicken, beans, and guac as well as the Mediterranean Salad, which came with roasted red peppers, olives, and feta. The nachos were massive - and, if you order, you will be set for dinner. Both dishes were tasty, filling, and satisfying - a perfect stop after a long day. read more

We came in as a family of 12 for a late lunch after visiting the Carlsbad Caverns International Park. We were ready for a good meal. The customer service we experienced once arriving wasn't good. Monique was who took care of us. She's a very sweet lady but we just didn't need to know all the ins and out of how it was going to be a little difficult to sit all 12 of us. Once she sat us she went on to tell us how she just arrived, she just clocked in the same time we got there... it seemed like she was ranting. When we asked for lemon for our waters she let us know that it might be difficult to get us lemon because again she literally just got there and they're going through a shift change. There's more I could say but I'll just wrap it up and say we got a bad vibe the first 10 minutes of being there. When our water vase came out dirty my mom had enough...she's super big on cleanliness, so we just decided to leave. It wasn't a good experience for us. We did experience amazing customer service from the front, understanding why we were leaving, they had resolutions for everything, I do appreciate their kindness. It was already embarrassing for us to leave the way we did, it was just a place I didn't want to be at and to be treated with kindness from the front employees and the lady in charge made an awkward situation a lot smoother. We visited for dinner over labor day weekend. I had high hopes because the outside looked really nice with a cute ambiance. However, I'm sad to say that it was not the best experience. Service was almost non-existent. It seemed like a lot of miscommunication between our server and virtually everyone else. She forgot to get my husbands beer twice (he reminded her) and by the time she told us that they didn't have his beer in stock he was already half way done with his dinner and she brought him a different beer. Also our server added chicken to our kids Alfredo pasta on the ticket because we had asked for it, but there was no chicken to be found on the plate. We're assuming it may have been a mistake on the kitchens end. We ended up having to ask to remove it from the check which they did. Lastly, the food didn't feel worth the price we paid for it. The chips and queso were really good, and the Alfredo sauce itself was tasty, but the $38 steak plate definitely felt way overpriced for the quality and cook of the steak and the bland sides. If we ever decide to make another trip to Carlsbad, we don't plan to visit this establishment again. read more

My wife and I chose this place on a whim. We're so glad we did! The waitress was wonderful and very attentive. They had indoor and outdoor dining. It was a tad warm, so we dined inside. After an amazing afternoon deep in Carlsbad Caverns, we emerged hungry and headed into town for an early dinner. Yellow Brix had a lovely patio, and sat us right away. However, service was sluggish and we soon realized flies were abundant. Wet our whistles with an excellent IPA from Albuquerque (Cumbre) and a tasty glass of Pinot Noir. Nachos came with a nicely spicy queso, but pork, avocados and lettuce were in unwieldy (though tasty) chunks that made it difficult to consume without cutlery. Dinner for our group included chicken tortilla soup, chicken cordon bleu with truffle fries, Caesar salad with chicken, a roasted grape salad, and a kids corn dog. Everything was just okay--nothing bad, but nothing to warrant the quite high prices either. The smallish salad ($13) was primarily spinach leaves and wilted grapes, very little of the cheese and nuts. Truffle flavor on fries was imparted by a dusting of some sort of truffle powder. Chicken on salad was dry. Would try something different if we're ever back. read more

We followed the advice on both the Brix electronic Billboard and the website to make a reservation. After two days of trying to get online and also trying to reach the hostess, we gave up and showed up in the middle of the afternoon. The restaurant was empty and seats were available at the bar. Hours of operation posted that they are open from lunch through dinner into the evening. Unfortunately, we were told that we could not be accommodated as the kitchen was in turnover between lunch and dinner. This was more than a little disappointing. Neither the hostess, nor the bartender attempted to even accommodate us with drinks at the bar and honestly the hostess was a little rude. We moved on to a wonderful restaurant down the street, and received excellent service with wonderful food in the middle of the afternoon. read more

I will say the food I saw looked good and the outdoor area was lovely. Everything else was very disappointing. We ordered to-go, waited the 45 minutes to pick up, and the staff said they weren't taking to-go orders. We showed where they charged for the order and they said they'd tell the kitchen. A bit later, no food. A manager came out, said she'd have it handled, and then forgot to tell the kitchen. We left with no food. The next day we thought, well, they were very busy, I bet they're slower now, maybe we can get the food we paid for and didn't receive. They said we'd need to talk to the manager, but the manager was "busy with something else" and would be out soon. We left without seeing the manager after another 15 minutes. read more

Excellent food, great ambiance and service was spot on! My husband and I were traveling through town and when researching restaurants the menu at Yellow Brix intrigued us. I We started with chips and salsa, the salsa was flavorful with a little bit of heat. My husband had a cup of Chicken Tortilla Soup and it had an abundant amount of chicken in a wonderful flavored soup. His main course was Green Chili Fettuccini and he added shrimp to it. The green chilis were off to the side so a person could choose how much they wanted to add. He loved the dish! I had Chicken Parmesan which had a creamy marinara sauce, it was delicious. I also had sauteed vegetables as a side and they were not overcooked, they were just right! Our server was Jazlyn, she was fun, on her game and we enjoyed having her wait on us. We took a flyer on this restaurant and glad we did! So delicious! We had to wait 20-25 minutes for a table and the bartender made one of the best old fashions I've ever had.
