We ordered takeout tonight, like we have done several times. When I arrived and asked for my order, it was wrong. It only had one meal. My wife's order was missing. They said they would get it. Ten minutes later, they brought her order out. Mine was cold by then. I told them I wanted two hot meals, not just one. They guy at the register absolutely refused, refused, to give me two hot meals. He insisted that my order was hot. Let me be very clear with this. I am not a person that likes hot food. I prefer food that is warm instead of hot. This order was COLD. I was surprised by the large crowd chowing down on mediocre food. Everything was unimpressive and far from memorable. Well, that's not entirely true. The Yellow Cactus has everything you can ask for: great food, drinks, salsa, TVs, full bar, location, prices, and a staff that is out of this world. Every time I go I find something else I love. The food never gets old because they have a really big menu with a lot of variety. It is a big place with plenty of tables; so there is rarely a wait, even during busy times. The best Mexican​ place in the area. Excellent service, hot food, ​and tasty salsa. The mild is very plain so we always mix it with the hot and it's perfect. They have the best tacos anywhere. The enchiladas verde are great and excellent chimichangas. They have flautas!! You can't get flautas anywhere around here at all. The tamales are authentic as well. We love this restaurant and eat there about three times a month, partially because it's so close, but really it's because they have a few items that are truly delicious. Carne Asada Tacos, Fish Tacos, and Tortilla Soup are some items worth checking out. The chicken wings are surprisingly good too, but the hot sauce is served on the side. I usually leave extremely full because I fill up on chips and salsa (which is great), but I suppose that's better than leaving hungry. The staff is really friendly too. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I've actually become a snob when it comes to other mexican restaurants. I always compare them to the yellow cactus and in my opinion they don't quite measure up. The staff is very friendly and most of them know us and chat with us when we come in. The cactus special is probably my most favorite entree. I always ask for extra onions, green peppers, and queso on it. It's always delicious. The queso and salsa is also super delicious. The food is decent but it's not worth the hassle. Hands down the worst service I've ever experienced. We tried it a few times to see if it was just an off night but it wasn't. Weeknight, weekday, busy or dead; the service is horrific no matter what. The waitstaff disappears for 20 minutes at a time. It took 25 minutes to get our check last time. Tonight we waited 20 minutes after getting our drinks to place an order but the server never came back. I asked the hostess for a manager and she laughed. She then brought our inept server to the table and said he was the manager with a disgusting smirk. If you want to try this place I would recommend getting it to go...especially if you have kids. I have eaten here twice. The first time I ate the food, it was carry out. I swore I would never eat here again. I didn't like it at all. However, last weekend we decided to get out and my fiancé suggested we go here and try again. I was hesitant but said ok. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I've eaten here on four different occasions, hoping it would be better, but it never really did. So at least it's consistent. The food is very bland, but it's best to keep to simple items. Get a taco or something. Burritos or anything that involve a small amount of planning to prepare tend to be a mess. As I said, edible but bland. The worst part is the service. Don't expect to be checked on, get refills, etc. DO expect to have approximately 5 (on average) employees standing near your table, having out and talking. It's one thing to never get service, but even wore when people hang out in the main part of the restaurant socializing when you need something. The food was fantastic. The service was, well, bizarre. Our waiter could not have been more disinterested in providing any type of customer service. For example, he didn't greet us, but came to the table and asked if we were ready to order. When he delivered our margaritas, he placed them together on the edge of the table and walked away. Same with our food. Never asked if we needed anything, never came back to check on us. Had to flag him down for a new margarita after finding lipstick all around the rim of mine. Again, he came back with another and set it at the edge of the table and left. Had to wave down a waitress (not ours) to bring our bill after we sat there finished with our food and with empty margarita glasses in front of us. Three out of four of us ordered a chimichanga. Definition of Chimichanga Spanish: a deep-fried burrito that is popular in Tex-Mex, Southwestern U.S. cuisine.
