Service was quick and the food was very good! Both wraps were delicious. I didn't get a chance to try them, but the espresso martini flights looked amazing as well.

This is one of my husband's favorite coffee spots in CT - we usually get coffee "to go" but this past we plopped our selves down at the bar for a coffee and martini flight. Loved that you could try all the special on the menu in a well portioned glass. To be fair - I am not a big fan of espresso martinis but these were pretty good. Probably going to stick to their coffee from now one but it was fun to try out.

Always a treat when stopping at Yellow King Brews! They just opened their new restaurant Carcosa that is attached to the coffee shop! Check it out! Carcosa is closed during morning hours Monday-Wednesday 11/12, open Thursday - Sunday but they serve breakfast through the window while you sip on your coffee.

I think that the place was really cool. The coffee flight is a cool concept and my friends really enjoyed it. It would of been too much coffee for me so I just got Strawberry Shawty and I liked it. The tables are big and can sit a lot of people. The staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend the place. *I didn't try the alcoholic drinks but friends said that they were very good

Spring flight ($22) You Wanna S'more? Strawberry Shawty Bourbon Bee Nitro Banana Nutella Chip Pistachio Ice Cream

I visited on a Wednesday morning and unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. The girl who took my order was noticeably unfriendly and rude, which made for a less-than-welcoming environment. 3 stars due to unfriendly staff otherwise would have been a 4 star. I ordered the Spring Flight ($22), which included five drinks: 1) You Wanna S'more? - My favorite out of all 5 drinks! 2) Strawberry Shawty - watered down, lacking flavor, tasted like artificial syrup 3) Bourbon Bee Nitro - I thought this drink was really creative! If you're a bourbon fan, you'll definitely appreciate it. The only downside was that I wished it was colder--it came out at room temperature for some reason. 4) Banana Nutella Chip - watered down, lacking flavor 5) Pistachio Ice Cream - Personally, not a fan of artificial pistachio flavor but my partner said it tasted like lucky charms and enjoyed it. I also tried the egg sandwich on an everything bagel with cheese (+$0.50), sausage (+$1.75), hash brown (+$1.50), and chipotle aioli (+$0.45), for a total of $10.45. The bagel itself was solid, but overall, the sandwich felt a bit pricey for something that seemed to be made from reheated frozen ingredients. The location is a bit odd, tucked next to a contracting company, but parking was easy. Overall decent drinks and food, but the unwelcoming service might keep me from coming back--which is a shame, because this was one of the better drink flights I've had in CT.

I really missed Yellow King Brews. On a trip back to New Haven we made sure to carve out some time to come back here for breakfast and try the legendary coffee flights. The fall one is just so quintessential New England and filled my heart with so much joy. I loved all of them but the salted caramel one was definitely my favorite. I wish the had a few more breakfast options here but the bagels are pretty decent (I think they get them from a local bakery). It's the kind of place you can hang out for a while, too. There's so much seating and TVs.

I had been wanting to visit Yellow Kings for what felt like forever, and let me tell you it was 100% worth the wait. It was about 6:00 pm on a weekday, and I was happy they were open for a late day pick-me-up. As soon as I walked in, the vibe was welcoming and laid-back, the kind of place where you immediately feel like you could spend the whole afternoon. In fact, it was a beautiful day and they had the windows opened up so it gave the space such an open, airy feel that made the experience even better. I ordered a cold brew coffee, the "Wylde and Nutty", that tasted to me like a peanut butter fluff (yes, you read that right!) and it ended up being one of the best coffees I've ever had in my life. Super smooth and perfectly balanced. They do offer food as well, "bar snacks", which I'm excited to come back and try. I also love that they have a loyalty program. Perks like that always make me want to come back even more!!! Yellow Kings really impressed me from start to finish, before I even walked in the door. Can't wait for my next visit!

    Espresso martini and coffee flights

I finally made it to Yellow Kings! I've always heard great things about their flights so me and a friend tried their coffee flight and espresso martini flight. I should preface this by saying I don't care for espresso martinis so I'm not too picky but I am picky when it comes to coffee. My favorite espresso martini was the Cookie Monster which had a cool espresso swirl. It had a slight sweetness and I love a fun colored drink! The Nuzilla was my fav from the coffee flight thought. Service was super friendly and quick. The place filled up quick by the time we were heading out

Best coffee flight I've ever had!! They give so much in each glass and each flavor was delicious. Our breakfast was yummy too! The atmosphere is so cool and different. Never seen something like it on the west coast. I hope to come back next time I visit

Wanted to try this place for awhile. Was definitely worth the drive for these tasty expresso martini flights. Definitely recommend sharing because 2 are plenty.

This is one of my favorite places in Connecticut!!! Their martini flights are soooo good!!! So worth it! They have some food options too. The pizzas were good. The drinks were all just amazing. We tried so many and enjoyed them all . We will definitely be back!

Came here today to finally try this place! It's been on my list to visit and I couldn't be more impressed. The people who work here are so kind and helpful. We ordered the Frostbite Seasonal Coffee Flight, Cookie Monster Coffee, and Breakfast Sandwich. Not only do the drinks and food look great, they taste just as good. My sandwich was one of the best I have ever had. They add hash browns and toast their croissant. Aside from the delicious treats, I love that they feature artwork in their space. I will definitely be returning!

I just missed their live jazz band that they have on weekly Wednesday basis starting at around 7 or 8pm. I wasn't too disappointed because I knew I'd be back. The entrance is setup as a VHS store with VHS movie cases displayed all over the "storefront." Everyone here was polite and welcoming. I was met by a host who showed me the way into the hidden bar, that you enter via a soda machine. If I'm not mistaken, there's a specific button that opens the vending machine door (you'll get a hint as to which one it is.) I was lead to the back to a narrow, elongated bar area that was perfectly dim with cozy decor; incredibly inviting, warm, could make be described as elegant. At the end of the bar, near the exit (at the back of the establishment), is where the band usually sets up. I sat down and asked the bartender to free flow through his cocktail creativity and to please include smoke. He didn't disappoint, I can't recall the name of the cocktail but he included two scotches and delivered the smokiness I was looking for. I love a good spirit despite lacking the knowledge of its production to which Jeremy, the founder, explained to me in a way that helped me understand the distilling processes simpler than I thought possible. On their bar top there were two mini wooden barrels that held their own aged products . One contained Irish whiskey which was referred to as the Irish- the other was as a cherry infused bourbon-- both good but the bourbon? Divine. Tonight I learned that the wood you choose to age your alcohol in heavily impacts the flavor of the liquor, not only through the amount of time the spirit ages in the barrel, but the type of wood used. The example I was given was that of oak and its ability to allow sugar to be drawn from it via a liquor (can't recall which one exactly was used to describe this process). Here they also produce all of their bases/ juices or an additions to the drinks they make. You know exactly what you're drinking here. I had little knowledge of this distilling/infusion/aging components and also of Wallingford, a place that was once referred to as the wettest town in the U.S. It makes sense given that their main strip contains 18 bars in itself. This Gilded Curtain was incredibly immersive, there is no doubt that I'll be back, lots of times, with lots of different people to impress. Love this place, it's a must visit recommendation from here on out. Thank you Gilded Curtain (Jeremy).

Probably my favorite speakeasy I've been to in CT so far!…read moreLoved the traveling back in time theme. They had live music (cello, trumpet, and piano). Would give a 5 for atmosphere , though it is a bit small; bar seating only. It's also quite overpriced in my opinion, particularly for Wallingford area- $16 cocktails. I will say bartenders were very friendly and were able to make me a fun "feeling lucky" drink. Street parking is available up and down the street with a public lot a 5 minute walk down the road. I would definitely come back

"Imitator, intimidator, stimulator Simulator, eliminator"…read more(Eminem) If ten state of the art golf simulators are your stimulators, you'll love a visit to Back 9 Social. And your visit will not be handicapped by a lack of gastropub like food and drink. Their golf simulators are very impressive and combine radar and camera technology to faithfully recreate some of the best courses in the world, including St Andrews, Pebble Beach, and 120+ others. A professional organization I belong to held a gathering there last night and had a great time. We ordered and paid for our drinks through their big bar through a QR code, but you can still pay the old-fashioned way with cash if you prefer. We had plenty of their pizzas which were quite yummy. Our golfers had a blast and I should point out that although some of the other customers I saw actually brought their own set of clubs, Back 9 can hook you up with their clubs for men, women, lefties, righties, and kids. And of course, plenty of tees and balls to whack into their high-definition screens. The facility is gorgeous, the golf simulators were amazing, the staff was helpful and friendly, and it was a very enjoyable experience.

We completely understand that the facility has every right to monitor alcohol consumption and prevent inappropriate behavior. Nobody wants people getting sloppy or disruptive, and we respect that. However, there's a much more professional and respectful way to handle it than what is done. We are unsure of her name, but the female manager present made us uncomfortable as she was constantly staring at our group throughout the evening instead of simply communicating expectations directly. The alcohol restrictions are also entirely ridiculous- I specifically was told by the bartender that I was being watched for alcohol consumption after having 2 Coronas in a time span of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The restriction on alcohol itself is not the main issue -- it's the way it is handled. We have felt watched and punished despite the fact that nobody in our group was loud, inappropriate, or intoxicated on multiple occasions. I also want to note that the bartenders have been spectacular and are always very nice. This is specially about the manager and the way she acts towards paying customers. When you're spending over $200 on the simulator alone, a little courtesy and respectful communication would go a long way. We really do like this place, but experiences like this make us hesitant to come back.

My expectations were high for this place. The ambiance, decor and location are all on point. Cozy,…read morechic, New England vibes. My friend and I started with a glass of wine, and the service in the beginning was good. However things quickly went downhill. This library proves you can't judge a book by its cover. We ordered the calamari appetizer. When it arrived, I opened my silverware from the napkin and discovered that my fork was filthy-- a giant glob of white, crusty food, the size of a dime, was still stuck between the prongs. I waited for my waitress to check in (she didn't deliver the food) but she never came. We tried to get the attention of another waitress and were ignored. After 10 minutes, with my calamari growing cold, I eventually walked to the bar to get a replacement. The bartended exclaimed, "Gross!" -- my sentiments exactly-- when I showed him the fork. By the time I actually sat down to eat, the calamari was cold. It was also super tough and chewy. There were hardly any peppers. We didn't eat much of it. I love French food, and I ordered the duck for dinner. I ordered it medium. When it arrived, it was cooked well done- perhaps in an oven rather than seared. I say this because the skin was not crispy and the fat had not rendered, so the skin/fat remained thick, chewy and inedible. Usually the crispy skin is the best part of duck, so I was disappointed. I had to cut off the skin and thick layer of fat to make it edible. It tasted quite gamey and there was no pink center. It came sliced into thirds, so they knew it was overcooked when they served it to me. I only ate a small portion. The rest of my dish (which came out looking stunning by the way) was also a big disappointment. Although it looked beautiful at first glance, I discovered the delicata squash still had the rough, inedible skin attached. The cherry sauce was heavy-handed and drowned my brussel sprouts, sweet potato purée and carrots to the point that all I could taste was the sauce (a thick, sugary glaze). I did my best to eat around it, because my waitress didn't check on us until much later. In fact we were basically done by the time I saw her again. I had given up at that point and left most of my food behind. There was also an issue with where we were seated. We had a small table in front of a window, but completely blocking a much larger table in a narrow corner. There was a family there when we arrived, and each time they got up to use the bathroom, I had someone's body pressed against my chair to squeeze by. A woman's behind actually grazed the back of my head at one point. When the family left, I could feel them brushing my coat off the back of my chair, resulting in them stepping on it. I can't blame them- it was a tight spot and a very awkward place for a table. I was annoyed that the waitstaff (I'm assuming) took the other chairs at my table, making a 4 seat table into a 2 seater, so I had no choice in where to sit. I didn't understand why they did this, because there was a lovely fireplace nearby and I had my back to it all night. Clearly, they weren't thinking about the dining experience from the customer's point of view. Maybe I could have switched tables but finding my waitress was like trying to find Waldo all evening, so it wasn't worth the hassle. Safe to say I won't be back. If you decide to try it out, be sure to get there early as parking is a pain to find at peak dinner hours.
