Yellowstone Cafe isn't far from us. I've known about it for years. Ive heard good things about it, and still we never made it there! We finally changed that. We went in and were warmly greeted. The hostess asked if we preferred a booth or table. I wish all restaurants did that! My husband is not a booth guy and we're usually taken to a booth. I try to remember to tell the hostess we preferred a table, but I forget ti sometimes. Anyway, we were seated at a table. Our server, Anya, came over right away and took our drink orders. When she brought our drinks back, we had a few questions and also asked for recommendations. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We made our choices and placed our order. I can't say I ordered the most healthy food, but it was good! I had coconut shrimp and onion rings (both from the appetizer part of the menu) and liked both of them. I found it strange that both come with honey mustard sauce! I did get some Thai sweet chili sauce for the shrimp. My husband really liked the walleye. The only negative - it wasn't very crowded, but it took longer than what we think is reasonable to get our food. The place is decorated in a very old style. There was plenty to look at on the walls! There's a lot of fishing pictures and fishing items, etc, on all the walls. But it works! I imagine we'll be back and we'll see if we can sit in Anya's section!

I ordered the Cheddar Burger cooked medium with fries and pickles. The burger was cooked perfectly. The cheddar cheese was not melted all the way. The burger was under seasoned. The fries were crispy and hot and tasty. I received excellent service from Derek and the bar. The vibe is friendly and chill.

Walleye to go, roll, side of beans / tomato

Funky cool spot with good drinks and seafood. Decor reminiscent of a freshwater fishing cabin, decorated with fishing gear and trophy catches. As a fisherman, I loved it. I was in a hurry so I got takeout - walleye dinner. Came with a huge roll, side of vegetables, and a giant piece walleye. Veg was good, sautéed fresh and crisp. Roll excellent. Walleye was amazing - fresh, moist, well seasoned and breaded - held up well with the take out packing. Salad was large, average. Service at the bar excellent as well as from the hostess. Friendly and efficient. I'll dine in next time to get the full experience. Highly recommend.

Best place to get walleye. Great value and portions for the money. Service is always so friendly. Great dining room setup and comfortable--it gets crowded but not loud. Definitely recommend checking out and ordering the walleye!!

Let's start with the Walleye----delicious!!! This unassuming restaurant in a strip mall in a busy area of West County has some delicious meals. The service was solid and friendly. Large portions and fresh veggies as sides. The only reason this didn't get the full five stars is that the salads are weak. Nothing bad just nothing special. Lots of iceberg lettuce and a couple of tomatoes. The dressing was decent. But the walleye shines. It's lightly breaded and pan fried. Portion sizes are large and cooked well. Parking was plentiful and it's easy to get to

Basa fish and fries (shoreline meal)

The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. The food I would say is hit or miss. The basa fish was incredibly delicious and perfectly cooked while the chicken florentine was tender and I could taste the grilled flavor, but the spinach topping wasn't good at all. The black bean and corn salsa was cold and an unnecessary plate filler. I would say definitely get the fish and fries, skip the florentine but try some of their other dishes and hopefully they are better!

    Honey Dijon Salmon

I ended up eating at Yellowstone Café twice in a week. I hadn't been here in years. The first time we were a party of 2 and I ordered the honey Dijon salmon on the salmon run menu. I had a salad and a baked potato as my sides. I found the salmon to be slightly less rare than I would have liked but otherwise all was good. On my second trip we were a party of 3 and I ordered the Blackened Chicken Sandwich (no bun) with a side of the mixed vegetables. This was delicious and the perfect amount of food. Loved the pepper cheese and the blackening seasoning. Both times the service was friendly. I'll be back sooner rather than later!

Very conventional menu but also very well prepared. Just a side of broccoli for example is extremely well cooked and flavored.

The second time, I had the trio of medallions, ordered medium rare and the steak was overcooked, I could barely chew it. Last night was the most frustrating. My boyfriend made reservations, we got there on time to a pretty full (as usual) restaurant. They sat us in a little booth right by the kitchen and the waiter's station. I could understand doing this if we walked in to a full place with no reservation, but in my opinion that booth should be used only as a last resort. There was also an open booth behind us which would have been preferable to the one right by the kitchen. It was really disappointing because we both really enjoy nice food and restaurants, and we couldn't completely focus on each other, totally relax, and I didn't get to enjoy any of the ambiance of the restaurant because I was sat facing the waiter's station and kitchen all night. For people who really take pleasure in good food, service, and the style of a place it was very disappointing. I got the spaghetti and meatballs which was described as having burrata and basil, the main selling point for me, and all I got was a little hint of cheese around the meatballs instead of the glorious ball of cheese and cream I was expecting. The main flavor I got from the spaghetti was red pepper flakes, no basil and no balance of flavors. The saving grace was our appetizer of calamari and the pitcher of sangria. To sum it up, the focus is more on the wine than it is on the food, and their menu is a little too ambitious. If they pared down the menu to focus on quality rather than quantity of items available they could deliver some really excellent food to accompany the wine. I really wanted to like this place but at this price point, I won't be returning for an experience that is just okay.
