Grilled House Made Meatloaf (half portion)
    Dustin E.

We recently visited the St. Louis area where I have a couple of students that live. They both recommended Annie Gunn's as the can't miss place in the metro. I see why. Our server Abby was amazing!!! She was so kind and helpful. Very patient with us. We were slow to choose what we wanted. Everything sounded so good. We settled on the clam chowder for an appetizer which we both just adored and the house ground meatloaf for our entrée which we shared. We each got a huge piece of meatloaf and some mashed potatoes and summer squash. There was a small plate splitting fee, which was absolutely appropriate. My wife and I agreed it's probably the best meatloaf we've ever had. Delicious!!! Abby was kind enough to gift us a piece of apple pie with the first taste of cinnamon ice cream either of us have ever had. It was made by a local creamery and was divine. We are still talking about that ice cream. The interior seems rustic, like an old Irish or English pub. So very cool. What a lovely experience and a total gem for anyone who lives in the area. We went next-door to the little store and bought a few things as well. We cannot wait to return to Annie Gunn's!

French dip served on the table. Amazing food!

Had drinks and dinner here this evening. The vodka martini was excellent. The bartender was so friendly and let us stand by the bar for a bit until we found a place to stand. It was only 5:15 and fully packed as usual. When we asked for a table the next available was 9:30 and they put us in a waiting list. Guess what??? A cancellation came and we got a table at 5:30. If you've ever been there you know this place is always busy and always amazing! The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Two bars! And several years ago the patio was enclosed as part of the restaurant and has a wall windows. Also, there are now rooms for big parties AND a room to have private parties and it is beautiful!!! So our waiter gave us a sample of a very good wine! Excellent. I ordered the french dip, which I've had several times. Tonight it was exceptionally delicious! Soft, yet crunch bread, cheese and amazingly tender beef, served with au jus and horse radish. Outstanding tonight! And fries also. But that french dip was THEE best ever. Gotta try it! I can't say enough!

Did a large business dinner here during BMW Championship. Food and drinks were amazing and the service was white glove. Just a great dining experience. Olivia, our server, was great.

    Outstanding 40oz tomahawk steak!

Went to dinner with a former colleague and she said she always wanted to order the tomahawk steak. I egged her on and she was not disappointed. Even though her meal was the most expensive one she ever had she knew she would be eating leftovers for a few days so well worth it! I think my next meal at Annie Gunn's will be this steak but I plan to eat it all at the restaurant! Our waitress was extremely attentive and I dare say attractive! Her service left nothing to be desired. It was a wonderful evening catching up with a friend and being entertained by her tackling this steak!

Annie Gunns is a staple for a solid and delicious meal. We went there for lunch and both ordered the French Dip. I'm 100% convinced you can not find a better French Dip than this (I try them everywhere). It literally melts in your mouth! Service was amazing, our server was super attentive and always kept our drinks refilled. Also, my mother mentioned it was my birthday, nothing like some apple pie for turning 38! Also, you have to run into the Smokehouse when you're done eating. They have a lot of awesome items/food to grab and bring home.

I have visited the restaurant a couple times. My daughter was in town and we decided to have lunch. I am aware it can get very busy, so I did make reservations. The restaurant is well decorated and very spacious, I love the design of the newest part, the windows make it seem like you are outdoors, it is well lit and has a very cozy atmosphere. Our waitstaff was wonderful, she was attentive, patient and had a great personality. We both ordered a glass of Cabernet. It was bold and fruity, we enjoyed it with our meal, which was a smoked seafood sampler and selection of cheeses. It has been a while since we had this, but it was so mouthwatering and delicious, I have thought about this meal almost everyday. The meats were so tasty and flavorful, the crackers and bread were paired perfectly. The cheeses were smooth, delicate and just unbelievably delicious! The meal with the wine was expensive for lunch, but it was so worth it. I highly recommend this with a group, we could not eat all of food on the platters.

Halibut with polenta, asparagus, and butternut squash

We stopped in without a reservation. Although we didn't wait an inordinate amount of time, I would recommend a reservation. All the staff were nice and let us know we could wait in the bar area and the bartender on either side would take note and give us a seat there when available. A spot opened up at the Wine Cabinet? I am not sure what it was called but it was a bar type spot but had a waitress for service. The seat was perfect when we didn't have a reservation, our server was attentive, and we never felt lost in the shuffle on a busy night. There were about six spots here and another couple sat later in our meal but no one else joined the open spots. Rebecca, our server, was fantastic! She went through the specials and answered my questions, made a recommendation on a drink that was great, the Winterberry. She checked in on us regularly while hustling as it was a Friday night. We ordered wings, they were pretty good, crispy is a must and they were. I got the halibut salad with a 1/2 gem salad. The salad was large for a side. Our entrees arrived in a timely manner, my halibut cooked perfectly. Asparagus and butternut squash were just the right amount and very good. It came with a polenta cake, it was ok, I haven't had it often so not sure if I even like it. We were stuffed by then but couldn't pass up apple pie, it is so good! We took it to go and with the leftovers, Rebecca packed up everything nicely. I recommend a reservation but our overall experience without one was great.

This place does not disappoint! First of all, the location, ambiance is classy and beautiful. Fireplace set the tone. The food is always top tier. Had the fresh oysters, delicious! Had the lambs chops for the first time. Wow! I will be back again just for the Chops. Last, but definitely not least, Abby! Our server was all smiles, pleasant, knowledgeable, friendly and made sure everything was cooked to perfection. Just made the complete experience wonderful. Be sure and request the lamb chops for dinner and Abby as your server.

I took my parents here last Sunday. I'll say, our meal wasn't as good as last time we went in October. But it was still good. The potato pancake was a bit mushy. And the apple pie seemed off. My steak was good. My dad's French dip was good. My mom got a Caesar salad with chicken and the chicken was cold. She was bummed. I guess you need to ask about that but who doesn't want grilled chicken on a salad. Especially at a place like Annie Gun's. Our service was wonderful. There was a table behind us with loud little kids we had trouble talking. But that was at the end of our meal. We will try again in spring!

When you want a great steak in St Louis it is hard to beat Annie Gunns. The attentive yet not overly ambitious wait staff will ensure you have the perfect meal. The newly added space provides a wonderful environment that makes you feel like you are at a ranch in the Rockies. If you have never been to Annie Gunns, you must make this stop a priority.

    Complimentary sparkling wine

Annie Gunn's will always be special to us. We had our wedding reception here, so coming back for our anniversary just felt right. Once again, they made it a memorable experience. The drinks were fantastic. The Bloody Mary had the perfect kick, the Maker's Mark espresso martini was smooth and bold, and the dirty martini was exactly how it should be: strong and delicious. We started with the carpaccio, and it was phenomenal. Easily one of the freshest we've ever had. It melted in our mouths. A really nice touch was the sparkling wine served with all dinners, which added to the celebratory vibe without us even having to ask. We were also treated to a complimentary apple pie with cinnamon-flavored Clementine's ice cream for our anniversary, and it was just as good as it sounds. Warm, flavorful, and the perfect sweet ending. The service was wonderful. Multiple staff members checked in on us to make sure everything was going well, and they were genuinely kind and attentive. The lamb chop was cooked perfectly, and my husband loved the sweet & savory glaze. A few small things to note: the caprese tasted super fresh but could have been colder, and the filet, while flavorful, wasn't quite warm enough. The plate was actually hotter than the steak itself. We were also seated at a table in the bar area with our 6-month-old (which wasn't ideal) but we made the reservation the same day for 7:30pm and felt lucky to get a table at all. All in all, Annie Gunn's still knows how to make a night feel special. We're so glad we chose to celebrate here again.

This is my friend's favorite restaurant and it definitely didn't disappoint! The service was top notch. Adam - our server - was amazing! Super friendly and took care of us! The restaurant is poppin' - fairly loud and lively. We ordered: Shrimp (6) - very smokey Foie gras - the medallion was a bit small for the price but tasted amazing Potato soup - very creamy (but I don't really like potato) Steak - friend said it was good Duck - the duck was cooked to perfection and the sauce that paired with it was incredible - the wild rice that came with it left something to be desired - it tasted like licorice Miro special - this was so unique and yummy. Sweet, salty, spicy, all the flavors Creme brulee - creamy and custard - no complaints This place is great and I'd definitely be back the next time I'm in town

Having to stay in for our anniversary meant carryout. We found out one of our favorite places actually does offer carryout outside of their deli/meat market menu. The experience was truly just as impeccable as dining in. Everything was packaged nicely, especially given part of our order was their cheeseboard. It was very easy to order with friendly staff. We will definitely be ordering again for date nights in. It's the experience you love from Annie Gunn's but to-go.

Stevie was my server that night and she provided friendly top notch service. I ordered a spicy margarita for my cocktail. I was a little disappointed with the drink. It was very cucumber forward, had a nice heat, but lacked that signature lime flavor and tartness required of a good margarita. The brussel sprouts and cheese grits were a must try for me. The pork chop was the perfect entree to accompany these sides. The brussel sprouts were charred and crispy. The balsamic glaze paired nicely with the charred flavor. The pork chop is served in a very generous portion juicy and tender. The citrus sauce paired nicely with the pork. The cheese grits were creamy and delicious. All in all a delightful meal. The portions were generous enough for me to have hearty meal of leftovers the next day. The menu is fairly concise with burgers, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, beer/pork/chicken entrees, and salads. You'd hardly know that it exists. It's weirdly anonymous in both its physical presence and its overall branding. You could drive by it for years and not know that it's there. I work nearby, and I was invited to tag along with a group of people from my job. I hardly know any of them, and we don't really work together. They may not have been able to put together a group of eight without inviting me. Hardly anyone actually shows up for work. I was more than happy to take advantage of the opportunity, and I got a chance to try a little bit of everything. Several appetizers were ordered, and people were putting on a front like they don't eat constantly, which, let's be honest, they'd have to. That just meant more for me. The deep fried deviled eggs were a revelation and obviously not anything I'd so much as imagine, let alone order. They're literally deviled eggs that have been breaded and deep fried and then served on a bed of deviled-egg filling, with bacon and raw jalapeno slices as garnish. They're brilliant, in a Billy Tuttle sort of way. If anyone knew who that was, they could probably license his name and likeness and do more business than have been. It's that kind of restaurant. Everything is unnecessarily large, like at the Cheesecake Factory. An appetizer called Duck Wings is apparently just that. Who even knew that ducks had wings? They're like weirdly large chicken wings, but not as good, but... uh, still pretty good. The pretzel sticks and the mozzarella sticks were just whatever. The mozzarella sticks are roughly the size of, uh, we're not gonna go there. But you don't get as many of them. Depending on the size of your party, you might have to split them in two. Same goes with the pretzels. If they were to give you more and just charge more than they're already charging, someone would probably assault the waitress on GP. This place carries a Farmhouse Burger, like the aforementioned Cheesecake Factory, so I was obligated to get one, morally, and for the sake of citizen food journalism. It's like a regular burger, but with bacon and an egg on it. It's not any of that smash burger BS. A smash burger is cool because it has crisp edges, but here's a little secret: you can also cook a much larger burger until it's crisp. And if it's thick enough (no Diddy), it might still be a little bit rare on the inside. Bonus! This burger was honestly much better than it had any right to be, given the overall vibe of this establishment, which seemed kinda dirty and run down. It reminded me of the burgers I used get at Culpeppers back before most attractive girls these days were even born. If they offered one with a compound cream cheese on it (just nod along like you have any what I'm talking about), I might have cried in front of my coworkers, and then I would have had to quit. Overall, I was both surprised and delighted by this place. I can't tell you that I'd be back, even if someone else was paying, but my one visit wasn't half bad.
