I finally decided to try this place due to their convenient location. First and last time for me. First, there wasn't one dish I ordered that was great, mediocre at best. I ordered General Tso's Chicken, chicken fried rice and the sugar donuts. Worst Tso's chicken ever, rice was blah and even the donuts which were dry and chewy were disappointing. $30 for a meal I ended up feeding to my dog. First time getting food from this place and it wasn't bad. We chose this place cause it was late and was willing to deliver to us. The Crab Rangoon was mostly cream cheese then crab and it seemed to need another minute in the fryer. The Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was very buttery and good the first few bites but after that got tired of eating it. Also it was more of an egg drop soup then a sauce. Finally we got the Shrimp and Chicken Combination which was the best out of the three. The shrimp in this dish were smaller then the shrimp with lobster sauce though, which had me disappointed but I still enjoyed it. Our son only eats string beans at Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, they were out. They took our drink order before we found this out. While it's understandable to be out of string beans, charging us $9.00 for the beverages (sodas) we didn't have a chance to drink is pretty self serving and apathetic towards their customers. Add this to the fact that their food is solidly mediocre and they frequently mess up our pick up orders. As a result, we're done with Yen Ching. I would recommend you don't bother giving them a chance. read more

So we ordered our food to have delivered. yes I do know that it is during coronavirus pandemic. However after almost $90 for our food they left off a couple of items and they refused to deliver it. I had to drive up there to pick it up. The people running the place were very unhelpful and trying to remedy the situation. This place to me is very expensive for the quality of the food. After getting back him from picking up my crab ragoon which should of been delivered with the rest of our food it was cold and tasted like it was made with a seafood salad instead of crab. We've been to Yen Ching many times and are usually pleased. I sent my son for a pickup today that was over $30. Received the food and the fried chicken appetizers were bland and very very crunchy, hardly any meat (see picture). I had an egg roll that was hard and old as if it had been sitting under a warming light since this morning. The Mu Shu Pork and Yen Ching Fried Rice were fine. I decided to call and inform them that I wasn't happy with the chicken and egg roll. Instead of accepting responsibility, the manager, Linda, proceeds to inform me that their food is fresh and made upon order. I know that egg roll had been sitting for some time and the chicken was bland and overly crunchy. My only option was to bring back (40 mins up and back) to the store and they replace. Are you kidding me? Is this customer service? Well, if it is, they will no longer have to worry about me because I will never step foot in their restaurant again. That $10 they elected to not reimburse will keep me out of their establishment as well as cause me to never recommend them for dining! read more

Best Chinese restaurant I've found since moving to Virginia nearly ten years ago. I discovered it about five or six years ago, which I was relieved because almost all of the Chinese restaurants in my town are disappointing. This one is near work, so I can place an order on the way home or have it delivered to the office. I always get the General Tso's and it's awesome. Since I only do delivery or pick-up, I can't speak on the wait service, but most of the employees seem nice as is the decor of the restaurant. read more

I was told by a coworker this spot was good and they served good portions. I decided to go there for our first dinner of 2017,my girlfriend suggested we get the variety sampler for appetizer so we did. It came out pretty fast which made me leery. It was well plated plus the presentation was very impressive there was a hibachi type burner in the middle which had me thinking I had to cook my stuff but that wasn't the case. The appetizer has 2 Ribs which were tough 2 beef teriyaki on a stick (they were good) 2 shrimp toast (good) 2 spring rolls and 2 chicken wings. Personally I think it was a little over priced but good. For the main course we ordered the General tso chicken with the house fried rice on the side,we like our general tso chicken extra crispy and they cooked it to perfection although unlike my coworker said the portion wasn't big enough for 2 unlike the house fried rice that had chicken, pork, veggies and shrimp. The shrimp was very tender in the rice we loved it unfortunately we didn't have enough general tso to take home. All in all the food was good (not great) and the decor was very nice booths were nice and the bar is well stocked. Yesterday I ordered takeout of egg foo young and orange chicken. My husband and I had both eaten in the restaurant a while back late in the evening and the food was fresh and hot. Although it is not the closest to us I drove over since it had been fine before. When he tasted the orange chicken it was a completely different experience. I had gone for an early dinner and they obviously had saved leftovers from the lunch service. The chicken was dry and grisly and inedible. There was even a piece of beef mixed in with the chicken. I did not go back since it was somewhat far and it was late. The egg foo young was ok, but we will never go there again. We wasted $12.95 in the garbage and my husband ended up with a fried egg sandwich at home. Beware! read more

I live by Swift Creek reservoir and for over a year Yen Ching (Hull St location) has been my go-to Chinese Delivery place. Ive tried the 3 or 4 in the area and always went back to Yen Ching. Their food used to be really good, plenty of attention to detail, and was always the same every time. But recently over the last few months the food quality has plummeted. Sauces that used to be sticky and sweet are watery and over salted. I ordered two egg rolls a few weeks ago and poured over a TABLESPOON of OIL from the bottom of the egg roll bag, they were literally soaked in fry oil. Absolutely disgusting. The simple fact is this place went from being some of the best chinese delivery ive ever had, to inedible swill in three months. They cant even make a decent fried rice anymore, it too is always just soaked in oil, because whoever is cooking doesnt know what they are doing. Hire real cooks or close your doors because right now you are selling garbage and this customer is done buying. read more

I ate lunch here with my wife and her mom, on their recommendation from a previous visit. The crab rangoon was some of the best I've ever had - very creamy in the middle, with wontons that were cooked just right and not soggy. My honey crispy shrimp was very good, and my wife & her mom enjoyed their meal as well. The wait staff was very good, and our order came quickly and was served hot. I originally gave this restaurant 2 stars. Unfortunately in our world anything below 4 stars means you should never go there. This place is okay. It's not good and it's not bad it's just okay. It is very pricey as well. We ordered veggie lo mein, chicken with mixed veggies, and an order of the Peking dumplings which cost $30. Yes $30 is not that much but I am used to a $20-25 bill for good chinese. This was like it was prepared for a buffet, where everything is okay. I just had the worst take out experience from the hull street location. I called in one order of chicken and broccoli and was told it would take 20 minutes (which is understandable for a Friday evening). I arrived there an additional 15 minutes later than my order pick up time. My order was not ready so I waited there an additional 15 minutes. This was a total of 50 minutes for one order. When I finally tasted the food, it was disgusting! The chicken was hardly edible, too chewy to consume. Their fried rice was also was terrible! It barely had any taste! I typically like their fried rice. When I called I was asked to bring the food back so they could recook it. After explaining the time I waited for my order and the distance to travel back and forth, are you serious?! They would not offer a refund, which they should have at this point. Wow, has this place gone downhill. This used to be my go to spot for Chinese food but I won't be back. I stopped in for lunch take out and ordered three lunches. They are one of the more expensive Chinese restaurants and the three meals from the lunch menu ran $30.00. After ringing up my order in the restaurant I asked the person that took my my order to please put some chili oil in the bag with meals. He replied "Oh great, now you tell me". I asked what the problem was and he informed me that they now charge an additional 25 cents for chili oil. I said I was not going to run my card again for 25 cents. He went on to tell me the manager had gotten upset when he gave it away before. I said for $30 he could include the oil. I got home with the meals and found the egg rolls missing, the fried rice burnt and the food tasteless. I can get better food at half the price and no attitude from the staff. read more

Have only done delivery but by far my favorite Chinese food yet! Delivery has always been prompt and our order correct.

I had dinner with mom here this evening and it was just OK. She and I, along with my dad, have been coming here for several years, and even came here one year on Christmas Day for lunch (a proposed tradition I hoped would continue, but unfortunately did not). I got a hot and sour soup (my staple appetizer) and steamed chicken and broccoli with General Tso's sauce on the side. The food was good, but the side sauce was a little too garlicky. One of the downsides of this place is they do not offer any dinner combinations to save you a little bit of money. Most dine-in and take-out Chines restaurants offer deals like that, so it's disappointing Yen Ching hasn't jumped on the bandwagon. They DO offer lunch specials, but I don't think it would hurt if they started doing dinner, too. This restaurant has been around for so long, and they are always so busy on the weekends so they are obviously doing something right. The prices are a little higher than most Chinese restaurants in the area, so I don't really come here too often. Overall, it's just OK in my opinion. read more
