Yes Cafe is about the equivalent to California's Tapioca Express. It's a boba shop. Nothing special or worth going out of your way for- but it's convenient because they are open later than the other shops around town. I will give them one thing though - their food/snacks are delicious! I would recommend the popcorn chicken or calamari. I've yet to try their Taiwanese meals but I've heard good things about them from family and friends. Tip: They do not accept card if the total is under $10. I LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY SELL LOLLICUP TEA HERE. It is so hard to find legit tea in the area so I was definitely in heaven when I discovered the lit up Lollicup sign. I love me some milk tea and popcorn chicken. Their popcorn chicken is not those tiny pieces one, they're actually big pieces of chicken like chicken tenders almost and they are DELICIOUS!! We recently moved here from California and I was hoping to find Tainwanese food for my homesickness, and I'm glad I found this place. My husband and I came here for a weekday dinners and we ordered the shrimp dumplings, which were delicious, the fried oysters, which weren't greasy, and the fried pork chop / rice combo with perfectly cooked rice. I've yet to set foot anywhere on the Asian continent. That said, I plan to do so in my lifetime. And Taiwan (also known as the Republic of China) is certainly up near the top of my list of places to visit in Asia. A relic of China's pre-Communist past, Taiwan is a vibrant, prosperous, democratic country still tussling for recognition from its mainland brother and the rest of the modern world. Oh, and I heard the food is pretty good. And seeing how Yes Cafe is the only Taiwanese style Chinese restaurant in the valley (as far as I'm aware), a Saturday lunch seemed in order. Look for Yes on the northwest corner of Alma School & Warner in Chandler, right next door to Barro's. Owner Chun Nan Lin runs the show here and was the first to greet me upon my arrival. The place can seat I'd guess up to 40 at most and you order your food at the register up front. There's a TV showing what appears to be Taiwan game shows and there's even a stack of board games up front if you and the family wanna just hang around for awhile. I'd done some amount of research into Taiwan cuisine prior to my visit here so I made a point of at least trying to order foods specific to Taiwan rather than mainland China (Taiwan food nerds, you're free to critique any misfires on my part). To start, I ordered a small Black Bubble Milk Tea with Boba. For my appetizer, I grabbed a "snack" sized Fried Taiwanese Sausage. And for the main dish, I followed the advice of several fellow Yelpers and ordered the Stew Pork Belly Rice Combo. Total cost for all the food and tax came to about $16. How was it? First, the bubble tea. It's not hard to find good bubble tea here in the valley these days and Yes whips up a pretty good one. And don't ever skip out on the boba. This drink actually came with a cartoon drawing on the plastic top. Random, but okay. Tea gets a thumbs up from me. How about the sausage? Came to the table pre sliced with a toothpick for easy eating. This is an all pork sausage with a slightly sweet component to it. The casing had a good snap which I liked, though other than the sweetness I can't say the sausage flavor profile knocked my socks off. A good juicy sausage to be sure, just different. Lastly, the combo. Came on a plate shaped like Taiwan (nice touch), with three hunks of pork belly, two scoops of white rice, a hard boiled egg, boiled cabbage, and tofu. Individually the components of this dish were decent but on the whole I was little disappointed. The pork belly was cooked well and the meat was tender. But even with that in mind, the pork belly was pretty bland, as were the rest of the plate accompaniments. I suppose I could've added one of the sauces available at the restaurant to give it a boost, but I'd probably have to apply pretty liberally to stimulate my taste buds. Granted this was my first go at Taiwan-style Chinese cuisine, but first impression was that it was meh. Decent in places and a genuine effort made by the staff to deliver a good product, but its possible that Taiwan cuisine just ain't my thing. It may just be that I'm too invested in the mainland classics based on what I've grown up with. But who knows, maybe an eventual trip to Taiwan itself will change my mind. For now, I would certainly encourage those with a taste for Taiwan or a passing curiosity like me to give this place a try. I can't say my first try was revelatory in anyway, but you might come away with a different take. If nothing else, it was a learning experience. One I'll take with me one day when I finally cross the Pacific. read more

Second visit. First time for food. Last time we got drinks, and they were good. Today we got beef soup and fried pork chops. The soup was fine, but not nearly enough substance to it. Mostly broth. On the plus side it did taste very authentic (I've been to Taiwan, and this place seems to be Taiwanese). The fried pork chops were very salty. Not too much for me, but I wouldn't have wanted much more salt. Flavor was fine, but nothing special. Maybe we'll stick to boba and other drinks when we come here. We got the royal milk tea (SO GOOD!), spicy chicken gizzards, fried tofu, popcorn chicken, and beef noodle soup. The fried tofu was the best I've had in Arizona, the popcorn chicken is the best I've had anywhere, and because the beef noodle soup was so good, we ordered two servings to take home! It's hard finding decent boba in the Valley, but this place does a great job. The only drawback is that the drinks are a little too sweet, but that is just a personal preference. They have a pretty great selection and combination of drinks that are available, and they have a pretty expanded selection of food options on their menu. The staff is also very friendly which is a plus. I've been to a few boba shops around the valley and the employees are either rude, do not work with a purpose (their lack of enthusiasm in serving and making boba shows), or a combination of the two, so it is really nice being able to find a place where the boba is pretty good, the food is good, and the staff is good. In terms of overall ambience, I'd say this place is good for studying and/or hanging out with friends. This place lowkey makes me feel nostalgic for the boba places back home in California, so it's nice being able to find a place that makes you feel just at home. I do have a few issues, but nothing major. First issue being that they require you to spend a certain amount before you can use a card without incurring a service charge (I know that this is common for a good number of businesses, but I'd prefer if this wasn't the case, but maybe I should just carry cash with me lol). Second, there don't seem to be any available outlets for charging your belongings (i.e. phone, laptop). I like to study at boba shops so it would be nice to be able to stay longer than what the battery on my electronics would allow. Overall this place is a great spot! read more

This place is a solid good. But nothing more than that, the popcorn chicken was nicely fried and probably the best thing. The pork belly was very juicy and fatty but the portion was just way too small. You get three pieces of pork belly for the meal that costs $8-9. The sausage was good and basically a bigger version of lap cheong. The milk tea was good, just tasted normal. But it was very cheap for milk tea. So for drink pricing it definitely is worth it. The snack pricing was fair but the meals were just too small for the $9 range. Overall it's a good place to get some teas and snacks for sure. read more

Friendly little cafe with plenty of space to chill and enjoy free wifi. Their boba menu had an option of pudding which was new to me but had the usual milk tea. It's hard to find good boba tea without them killing it with sugar, however Yes Cafe is perfectly sweetened. I also ordered the beef noodle soup and it was the closest you can get to authentic Taiwanese food. A hot broth (be careful) filled with green onions, pickled veggie, thick udon noodles, Chinese broccoli, and good amount of beef all in one. I want to try the fried chicken and tofu next time. One of the best places for Boba in the area. Not only do they have boba but they have pudding milk tea! Boba was cooked perfectly and the pudding was delicious. The milk tea that I had there was delicious and the boba was soaked in honey and brown sugar I believe. The place used to be Lollicup but I think they got a lot better after switching and losing the franchise. Stopped by here with the girlfriend while trying out different Asian eateries in the area. We ordered the lu rou fan (ground pork over rice), beef noodle soup, and jasmine milk tea. The lu rou fan was pretty good and included a tea egg. It would have been better with mustard greens which comes standard in most other Taiwanese places, but can't really complain much. The sauce was great with the rice and meat all mixed in. The milk tea was actually really good. Probably top 5 that I've had - and I've been to TONS of bubble tea places from NYC Chinatown to Bay Area and everywhere in between. It had loads of tea flavor that you simply don't get when you go to the cheap places that only use the powdered stuff. Now to the beef noodle soup - it was OK, nothing that special. The noodles tasted like it was prepackaged and didn't have the chewy goodness that you get with fresh hand-pulled noodles. Meat was decent, but I would have loved to see tendons, etc. Overall, this place was pretty good. From the small sample size that we had, I would slightly give the edge to Taiwan Food Express for the food. However, the service here is better and the owner was super nice. She reminded me of any of my typical Taiwanese friends' moms from back home. read more

This my go to spot when I am wanting some comfort food. They are currently doing take out only and are following Covid safety protocols. The owners are super kind and always so welcoming. They have a wide variety of bubble teas, juices, and taiwanese snow ice. My family and I ordered the popcorn chicken, fried chicken steak, beef noodle soup, and beef roll. What blew me away was the popcorn chicken and the soup. The soup has this very flavorful rich taste to it and the popcorn chicken had an intense flavor that tuned out very nicely. Maybe the milk tea is overly sweet, but the food is pure nostalgia. If you long for simple comfort food of Taiwan, this place probably has a dish or two (or more) that will fit the bill. One bite into the fried chicken steak, and I nearly teared up--I had forgotten how different American and Taiwanese fried chicken could be, and this was the perfect reminder. Five star is not a fair rating, but a tasty reminder of my childhood is an irresistible bribe. This place is a great little Mom and Pop place serving authentic Taiwanese food! I ordered the simmered pork belly combo, which was pretty good. Not as tender as I make at home but will do in a pinch if you don't feel like cooking. Also tried the spicy tendon, not as tender as I think it should be but the flavor was there! They have a huge selection of boba drinks and slushees. I had an almond milk tea which was very refreshing. Will be back again to try the popcorn chicken, sausage and chopped pork combo over rice.
