Lunch stop on a road trip. This is a walk up to the window and eat outside at a picnic table type spot. We both got the Falafel pita and they were DELICIOUS!!!! Perfectly done falafel, crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft and savory on the inside. Served with cucumbers, tomatoes, tahini, and yummy tzatziki sauce. Had a nice visit in La Grande last week. Not a lot of food choices but Yia Yia Nikki's was fantastic!! Very reasonably priced. Got a gyro and a platter with multiple items. Everything was excellent. The gyro was stuffed and the tzatziki was thick and creamy. We walked up to the window to order and then waited sitting in the courtyard. It might have been a 10 minute wait but may have been even less. It was ready quickly. We were staying in a hotel so it was very nice to take something delicious back to the room. The building is so cute. A bright blue with a little courtyard for seating. No inside seating so I'm assuming you don't eat there in inclement weather but otherwise a perfect little spot for some yummy Greek from Yia Yia Nikki! read more

We always order falafel pita wherever we go, and Yia Yia Nikki's did not disappoint as we stopped for lunch on our road trip. We liked the drive-up window convenience and the location with an adjacent Safeway/Starbucks. The falafel was cooked perfectly. One of us had it with hummus, the other with tzatziki - both of us were happy with choices. We got side salads for later and they look loaded and delicious. The meat was dry, overcooked, and under seasoned too. The falafel was falling apart and had hardly any flavor as well. It seemed they wanted to prices for very low end cuisine! Wow! Yes, this is how I am going to start this review. Yelp again was on point with their ratings. We just moved to the area and as we try to become part of the community, we are looking for our go-to places when cooking just isn't gonna happen in our house. This is a nice hut with picnic tables (some with umbrellas). They have a drive thru on one side and a walk up on the other. We got there right after they opened (11 am) and the lady to took our order was very nice. She was just getting set up but made sure the table we wanted to set at got cleaned first from being out overnight. The food! The Greek Side salad was amazing! Lots of flavor & a treat on a 75 degree day. The Gyros were perfect in my opinion. The meat was tender & juicy and the Taziki (?) sauce was flavorful. Great quantities as I had to take part of mine home. In fact, hubby is right next to me asking if I am giving a proper review as he was in heaven eating this. Great Mediterranean food with vegetarian options. Because we were just traveling through we were surprised to find such a tasty, non-"American traditional" option . Outstanding food and fantastic service! My husband had the Gyro plate. Aside from giving our dog a bite of meat, he cleaned his plate. I had the Falafel Salad, which was huge and delicious. The food here is ok if you have the time to wait for 20 minutes in line before even ordering and another 10-15 minutes after you order! I really wanted to like this place but rarely have the desire to sit in the hot sun, waiting that long to order a meal! Whatever system Nikki's has for assembly of a gyro, it's amazing that they can make any money when they take this long to put a simple gyro together!! A reliable location in the area. The first thing to know is that this is a quite small location. The seating on the interior is intended primarily for you waiting for your order. This place is strucutred, principally, as a drive through/outdoor eating establiahment. That being said, you loose little in the experience. I was in town on a business trip when I was trying to find dinner. I ca.e here based on recommendations from the locals and was quite impressed. The owner was immensely friendly and helpful as I ordered and waited and engaged me as I was an old customer who he had been serving weekly for years. I ordered the gyro plate, which was filling, although the four pieces of pita I was given didn't seen to be adequate for all the meat I was also given. The baklava was fresh from the oven and decadent in every way. Oh, and huge. So much so I had to bring the second piece home with me. Pricing was entirely reasonable and service was quick. What is food or good food? It is love on a plate. At Yia Yia's, these owners are so full of joy and humor and boy do they know how to cook a mean gyro! I know, I've lived in big cities my entire life and I've eaten my share of authentic gyros and this is just as good. The seasoning and tenderness is spot-on. The amount of food for the cost is also spot-on. Oh, the "secret" is their homegrown oregano. Shhh...I was told in confidence or maybe not but they sure know how to use it. Their sauces and marinades are homemade. It's all good! The owners are Tina and Monir. You can call him Mo for short. When you're in town, you need to try their food. You will not regret it.
