Since moving out to Berkeley for college, there isn't a lot of convenient dim sum places and I've realized that I really miss eating chang fen, aka rice rolls. This is why I got super excited about @yinjisg opening! I got their shrimp and Chinese donut chang fen and they were pretty good! My mouth is watering just from reminiscing about the amazing chang fen from Yin Ji Chang Fen. Since visiting it in May of 2020, it's relocated to a bigger space on Center St. The waitress who took our orders was enthusiastic and incredibly welcoming (definitely a rare experience for dim sum places in general). She was prompt about taking our orders and offered her suggestions patiently and thoroughly when asked. The real star of the show at this restaurant is, as their name implies, the chang fen. The noodles enveloping the filling is silky smooth and glides down your throat. The shrimp is tender and not stiff from being over-cooked. The sauce drizzled over the chang fen is slightly sweet, pairing well with the slight sweetness of the noodle. The balance of filling to noodle hits the sweet spot - not an overwhelming amount of noodle to compensate for less filling. The filling is distributed pretty evenly throughout it's pearly white noodle robe and this place DOESN'T SKIMP on it. For a sweet treat, I'd definitely recommend their deep fried mantou with condensed milk. The buns are not overly oily (in spite of being deep fried), and are absolutely delicious paired with a slight dab of condensed milk. I'm sad I no longer live in the Berkeley area, otherwise I'd be visiting Yin Ji Chang Fen regularly...at least my wallet will thank me for it? read more

Poor quality dim sum, but good service. Honestly ordering dim sum on a late night was a pretty good idea first, but this shop in berkeley can be easily overshadowed by other restaurants residing on its strip or any other asian dining for that matter. The shiu mai and har gow were made in poor taste and the rice roll as well as tofu skin of each was either microwaved from a frozen bite or set aside all day. The wonton soup was maybe a highlight for my order, but the choy and wonton were definitely made with a minimal effort in ingredients and presentstion. A bad showing from a variety grabbed from this place and personally would recommend anywhere else to eat for dim sum of even a decent quality compared to this retaurant. read more

The porridge and beef stew noodle is good. The rice noodle roll (their speciality) has good texture BUT the filling itself is not good. I do not understand why they have to add lettuce in every roll. The lettuce kills the flavor of the bbq pork and the shrimp. That knocked off one star because I hated the lettuce. I have to also knock off another star because their dim sum is not fresh. The siu mais are frozen then resteamed and also their bbq pork buns is basically grocery store bought frozen buns that they resteamed. This is a great little dim sum and congee place right on the middle of downtown Berkeley! Congee is my favorite comfort food, i love getting the Li Wan assorted one, it has egg, peanut, pork, shrimp - like a little treasure hunt in your rice porridge. The siuma is mediocre and the haogow tasted like frozen package that you get at the market. Overall, I think the food were overpriced and will not go back. It's not bad but not great either. Got some congee and a smattering of other dim sum items. I would say the highlight is definitely the rice rolls - probably obvious from their name - although other things aren't bad. I always get the yolk custard buns when I have the option but I'm pretty sure theirs are just frozen ones they reheat. Not bad but still not homemade or anything. Overall, I would say other comments about serving sizes being a little small is kind of true. You always get just 1 less item of a thing than you're expecting and the items are a little small. You can still certainly get a great meal for a reasonable price but it's not like some other Chinese food offerings in the area that have slightly lower quality but huge portions. I got some cheung fun (rice noodle rolls) from this place when I was visiting Berkeley. Definitely better than your average cheung fun, but it is also on the pricey side.
