Egg foo young, chow mein, and rice
Rose M.

Best fried rice ever. We had the general tsoa chicken w crab Rangoon. You can adjust the heat. It was so good!! Also had egg Foo young and chow mein. Large portions. Great prices. They also have cocktails to go. They are open now for take out only.

Pad thai

The food had no moisture. The pad thai noodles fully absorbed any sauce and were soft and mushy. The pork had a gray color to the meat. The flavor was not enjoyable. This plate was over $11.00. The chicken in the pupu platter was also dried out. It was partially dehydrated. Nothing else in the order was up to par. This meal was over $10.00. Clearly this food had been sitting for who knows how long. Hours? Days? I threw all of the food in the garbage and was sitting there just so disappointed that i decided to put in a call. I could hear the owner (?) in the background upset that i called to complain. He was saying oh well and yelling. I was unable to catch what he said but it did give me an impression. I was very nice and calmly just letting them know what was wrong. I was told that i could return it if i brought back the food. That is fine but who wants to go digging in the garbage and driving all the way back to the restaurant wasting gas and going back into a public place? I never complain. Ever. This food is a waste of money. I kindly told them that they can take my money as a donation but please do not serve this quality of food to other people. Lesson learned. No take out from jade garden. Very disappointed in the food and lack of professionalism. Pandemic or not, i am trying to support a local business. The least that can be done is for this business to have some sort of quality control and professionalism to help give their restaurant a good impression during difficult times.

Scorpion Bowling anyone???

Jade Garden is a wonderful little Chinese restaurant located in the old "Muldoon's" on Church St in New Bedford. I've been going to Jade Garden now essentially since they opened and I must say it is a great place to go for any occasion! Super fast service and quality food every time. I would go so far as to say that Jade Garden is the best Chinese Food you are going to find in New Bedford. With a full menu of traditional Chinese favorites that will be at your table in what seems to be minutes this is the destination for great food. The previous reviewer mentioned that it was "Clean" and really that is something that is rarely found in New Bedford Chinese Restaurants. Jade Garden is always spotless and their dining area is decent sized and open. (Does not feel tight and uncomfortable). They have a full bar with wonderful drinks including the traditional and highly recommended "Super Scorpion Bowl" which I believe is made for 4 people but my wife and I manage to polish this off on our own! But, other than that they have everything from Johnny Walker Blue to JagerBombs! Service is always fast and attentive. Kam and his wife (owners) are always friendly and ready to greet you with a smile. Their specialty meals are good but I must be honest. I normally get the same thing. I have found MY dish there. It is the #23 which consists of General TSO chicken and Crab Rangoon. I will say hands down that their Crab Rangoon is the best I have had anywhere! Their General TSO is very different from other places around here. Quality chicken, in a sweet sauce (More sweet than spicy but really wonderful) fried fresh to your order. Their Hot & Sour soup is another favorite of mine. Fried Wantons and Boneless spare ribs are always a crowd pleaser with me and my circle of friends. To say that I am a fan of Jade Garden would be an understatement. Their food is quality and their service is fantastic. Stop in sometime with the family for dinner and see for yourself. Or go take a quick lunch break and be in and out before you know it. This is not just another Chinese food place... this is a very good.. CONSISTENT Chinese food place. Time after time a great quality meal with fresh quality ingredients. In my opinion when you find a place like this it is a local treasure!

Usually the food is pretty good and the service is quick. Today I wanted to try something new so ordered the kung po chicken. I was very disappointed with the food. The chicken PCs were so small! The celery, onion and even the peanuts were bigger than the pcs of chicken!!! before I ordered I looked online for pictures. The picture was big chunks of chicken not as big as chicken fingers but the size of the generals chicken. If this is the way it normally comes then I feel sorry for their customers.

Somewhat of a healthy lunch

Some of the best dine-in Chinese food you can get in the area. On top of that, the cocktails are outstanding.

The General Tso chicken is big strips of good chicken and not just battered bits of scrap like a lot of places.

I enjoyed it last summer enough to go back, so back I went, this time for a weekday lunch…read more -- Chicken Wings: A little on the small side, with all of them crisp, half of them fully glazed and brown, and the other half lightly glazed and not so brown. Good old school flavor on all. Moist yes; juicy no. Right around average. -- General Tso's Chicken (on a combo): Big pile, big pieces, bumpy and very meaty. Lightly crispy. Sauce fairly light and not bringing much heat to contrast the subdued sweetness. But what an allotment of meat. Average or a bit above. -- Egg Foo Yong (on a combo: Two thick, golden patties flooded with a smooth, tasty brown sauce. Underneath, very dense in pork nuggetry and good tenderness and overall flavor. A pleasure. Near-elite. -- Boneless Spareribs (on a combo): An easy upgrade from the standard crab rangoon for $2.50, these were a respectable stash of flat mini slabs well painted with a dark mahogany glaze. Moist, flexible, and carried to the finish line by some extremely delicious flavor. Well above average to near-elite. If a little more juicy, possibly elite. -- Egg Roll (in a combo): Another upgrade from crab rangoon, totally worth the $1.50. Crisp outside, moist pork and crisp cabbage inside, with noticeable five spice flavor. A little above average. -- Pork Fried Rice (on the combos): A stellar mound of dark, moist grains, with flavor every bit as pronounced as the color. Big chunks of red pork, with bean sprouts and egg chiming in. No onion. Overall, a delicious reminder of the golden age of pork fried rice. Near-elite to elite. Good food, with some of it great, and good value. Excellent service from Wendy, a pro with skills and a great sense of humor. Also nice to see Morgan, the excellent server from my previous visit.

The lobster sauce was incredibly favorable and a lot of shrimp. It was excellent. The wonton soup was out of this world. The egg foo young was huge and it was delicious again I can't stress how the crab Rangoon's are the best in New Bedford. You can tell this place has regular customers just by the interaction between the staff and customers. It has a great vibe. Prices were very reasonable.

Wah May has been slinging chow mein and other old school Chinese goodies since 1961 from what looks…read morelike a former residence. Surprisingly, no bar. Unsurprisingly, plenty of combination plates. Chow Mein Sandwich: They have several choices for this regional specialty, which can also be had as a chop suey sandwich. Proteins include chicken, beef, mushroom, pork strip, and even shrimp or scallop. I went with chicken. What arrived was a humongous assemblage of thick-cut celery, tender chicken strips, and onions, with crunchy flat noodles interspersed and a thin, dark brown gravy (neither sweet nor salty) underneath. The bun was basically a garnish, so this demanded fork and knife eating. I think of it as a crunchier Chinese version of a hot turkey sandwich, with the bun the least important element but what makes it unique. As chow mein, good flavor and good texture, coming in well above average to near-elite. Shrimp and Lobster Sauce (on a combo): Five shrimp, ever so slightly overdone but serviceable, buried in a faintly sweet sauce with a more potent dark black bean base, with a few swirls of egg white. Scallions on top were more than a garnish, providing a savory counterpoint to the sweetness. Well above average. Egg Roll (on the combo): I have to admit, there are times I'm not fully certain on whether an egg roll filling is celery, cabbage, or a mix. This was NOT one of those times. The celery brigade can rejoice, as this one goes well past "celery forward" and onto "celery in your face," and I'm talking more in your face than an Elaine Benes Christmas card. Dark green, thick chunks, all with some crunch, and fully loaded. Baby shrimp and pork can also be found lurking, but this is all about the dominant celery. The wrapper brought a bit of greasiness (though within tolerance) but a strong, pleasant flavor as well. This unique egg roll bordering on subgum-in-a-shell is an absolute must-try, and I liked it to an extent, but wouldn't want it regularly. It's an acquired taste, so it's tough to score: overall, probably average, but a really fascinating average. Pork Fried Rice: A little dry in spots but dark of color with flavor to match and an acceptable amount of pork, onion, and bean sprouts. Above average. Very enjoyable meal, good food, different food, and a place I'm eager to revisit. Fairhaven is just over the bridge from New Bedford and boasts some stunning works of architecture in its town hall, Millicent Library, and Unitarian Memorial Church, all right around the corner from Wah May and not to be missed if you're into beautiful historical buildings.
