This place gets pretty crowded since it is the only local dinner restaurant around other than the fast food joints around. Super unimpressed. Server gave us hardly anytime to order and she seemed to be the only one working so I can see why! She was not friendly at all and I don't blame her, she was clearly struggling and the busy restaurant was too much. Food was okay. We didn't realize that most meals come with a large family size salad so we asked for an additional side salad because we were sharing a meal and the server didn't even make a comment about the size of the salad it came with so here we over paid for a side salad and have so much salad that looked like it came out of a bag with crappy ranch poured all over it. Our check was not correct but we were so done with the place we didn't even ask to have it correct. For ONE meal and a side salad and waters to drink it came to $40?! Frozen reheated jalapeño poppers, from frozen breaded shrimp (think Gorton's ). Nothing is made fresh here except for the steak. Steak is just okay, but don't expect seasoning. This so called "restaurant" is taking advantage of visiting customers who simply do not know any better. I made the mistake of visiting this establishment in May of 2019 while visiting the Grand Canyon, and can only wish that I could go back in time an exercise better judgement. I made the decision to dine at Yippee-ei-o! after traversing the town of Tusayan, AZ in search a unique and local restaurant. From it's exterior appearance, Yippee-ei-o! appeared to be a quaint, local establishment specializing in Southwestern steak and cuisine. As a steak connoisseur, I felt this would be the perfect restaurant to sample the local flavour. Upon entry to the building, you are greeted with wall-to-wall wood paneling, picnic style tables (complete with wooden benches), and tacky cow print tablecloths. While I was less than impressed with the overall decor, I felt that these aesthetic touches were intentionally kitschy, and was willing to give the cuisine a chance. My experience started to become uncomfortable when the waiter arrived at our table. At this establishment, the waiting staff dresses in a cowboy attire, complete with cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. These Southwestern touches do not compensate for the fact that some members of the waiting staff do not appear to know how to wait on a table. The ordering process and social interplay with the waiter felt rather cold and uncomfortable, and I did not feel that the waiter cared about our overall experience. I understand that waiting tables is not an easy task, and therefore elected not to let a hiccup in the ordering process overshadow what could be an excellent meal. Each member of our party ordered a "Cowboy Steak" at a rate of $28 for each plate. Shortly after placing our order, a salad arrived. The salad arrives in a large wooden bowl, and is shared with the entire table. I found the salad to be quite good, despite being made with ingredients that I normally would not expect to find in a salad (including cornbread). Shortly after finishing the salad, the main course arrived at our table. We received a steak dinner complete with corn-on-the-cob, beans, as well as a baked potato. After we had a chance to cut into our steak dinners, we began to see just how awful this establishment truly is. The steak being served at this restaurant is HORRIBLE. Absolutely terrible. I was barely able to cut into the steak that I received, let alone chew it (despite asking for a rare steak). Another member of my dining party had to continuously spit out portions of their steak, for it was impossible to swallow. I simply cannot understand how it is possible to cook a steak this poorly, and pass it off as a $28 menu item. This steak shouldn't even be served at a five-dollar budget buffet. I was able to eat about half of my steak before I finally had to give up. I wasn't going to force myself to eat the entire meal, despite the price greatly exceeding what was acceptable. The lackluster accompaniments (corn, beans, potato) also should not account for this asinine meal price. We paid our bill, and headed right for a nearby fast food restaurant where we could get a much better meal for a fraction of the price. I only wish that I would have done so in the first place. All in all, I'm sure that this establishment receives very few returning customers, especially with the constant flow of tourists flocking to the Grand Canyon. However, that is not an excuse to serve rubbish food at premium prices. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Despite the bad reviews, we decided to give it a try after a long day at the Grand Canyon. In our experience, we were very content with our food and the service. The atmosphere was nice, the decor was fun with lots of country style antiques that is nice to see for people who are from out of state or foreign countries. The service was good with cowboys serving us and making sure everything was fine. Having read the reviews, we did not take our chances with the steaks and went two full ribs for a party of three, which we could not even finish. And it was finger-licking good =p We did not care too much about the sides, which consisted of corn, potatoes, beans, and salad. In conclusion, we did not expect too much, we were happy to end our beautiful day with delicious food on the table and even had left-overs for breakfast the next day ;) read more

As another yelper said, going here without checking yelp first was a yelp crime. We had a particularly bad experience, but after reading some of the other reviews we experienced the same thing others have before us. Waiter was pushy about what we should get, food was tough and over cooked, waiter didn't come by the table a single time for refills or to make sure everything was ok, they sneak in a 15% gratuity that is mandatory, we waited 30 minutes for our check after our plates where taken, the prices will make you choke if the food doesn't, etc. I implore you to not make the same mistake we did and too many people before us. Great ribs with a tasty BBQ sauce, the meat fell off the bones. Generous portions and a lot included with your dinner - salad, biscuit, beans (soupy), corn on the cob (maybe a little overcooked) and a baked potato. Price reasonable for what you got. Service was great - didn't take long for the 5 of us to place our order, and the food came out FAST. I liked the ambiance with the real wood fire place and all the western cowboy decorations. Negatives: CASH ONLY. There was a sign that said their credit card machine was done. The same sign that was up there LAST YEAR. And they automatically add 15% tip to their bill, make sure you see that and don't tip again. There is also only 1 women's and 1 men's bathroom stall for the entire restaurant. This is a decent restaurant that is in the town just south of the Grand Canyon. You can tell they are used to pushing large crowds of people through the restaurant in the rush after the park closes. As a tip, don't order an appetizer. You will get your salad before the appetizer shows up. They do give you large portions of food so an appetizer wouldn't be necessary. I wouldn't say this is a great restaurant, but they serve good food quickly. Just a tip about tips! They add a 15% tip to the bill, so if you feel like service was great like ours, leave a little more. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Bathroom had poop stains all over the toilet and floor and even the sink had crust and mold. Food was AWFUL. No flavor, steak jerky, even the beans were awful. Corn was a year old and not edible. By far the worst meal I've ever had, McDonald's is a 5 star compared. Waiters were rude and they don't need to be nice because the tip is already on there. TOURIST TRAP. STAY AWAY. Soooo gross and dirty. After reading the mixed reviews and realizing that it was a bit more highly regarded than other nearby establishments, we tried out Yippee-ei-o for dinner. We stood awkwardly in the cramped bar waiting for a table and were eventually seated. We ordered fried zucchini, ribs, and chicken. Zucchini was just as expected--greasy, pretty tasty, and plentiful. Ribs were okay--tender, but not falling-off-the-bone tender, and plentiful. Chicken was mostly unremarkable but tasty enough; the barbecue sauce was decent. Prickly pear jelly didn't taste like much of anything. We left stuffed and even brought leftovers back to the hotel. BOTTOM LINE: big portions; decent prices; satisfying, but not super-tasty, food. My plate came with all the fixings listed above....same deal, though...corn was over cooked, beans were bland (I was really looking forward to these), biscuits were dry but I liked the baked potato. The ambience was kinda cool...like an old cowboy saloon/BBQ pit. Clean, wooden picnic tables w/cow patterned tablecloths covered in clear plastic set the mood right away; that and the dim lighting along with the smokey BBQ air. We sat by the fireplace, which added to the homey feeling. Staff were dressed in crisp red cowboy shirts and men donned cowboy hats...they seemed pretty busy, but our service was still good. Total with 15% tip included was $87. for a family of 5 and no alcohol. Pick another place to eat, seriously McDonalds would be better. It looked appealing from the outside decor and because of "steakhouse" in the name but the food and service sucked. The food was expensive for the quality.  A $16 appetizer platter with run of the mill frozen then fried zucchini, mushrooms, fries, and potato skins-only the skins came plain, not as advertised with cheese and bacon.  When we asked about the cheese and bacon, the server brought out two small containers (one shredded cheese & one with cold bacon crumbles).  When we asked the other server about them being served plain, she said that's how they come with the platter.  We said but it's not melted or anything then she offered to heat them up. We also ordered a $15 burger that came with a stale bun and a salad that came with two grape tomatoes and wilted, brown lettuce.  The burger was ordered plain, no cheese.  When it came out with cheese, we sent it back only to have the waitress come back and tell me I said "with cheese"...I know what I ordered.  I never eat cheese burgers.  Not coming here again. read more

I had a combo platter of half rib and a steak. The steak was just okay, but the ribs were close to the best I've tasted so far. Portions were fair, along with the prices. The corn tasted very much like had been overcooked and all the nutrients sucked out of it. Table ware could use better cleaning and the service could be a little friendlier and quicker. For about $22.99, we got: - Salad (really good) - 1/2 rack of ribs (was pretty much like a full rack) - 6oz Sirloin Steak (decently delicious - ordered medium rare, got medium) The local beer is "OK." Went to the other steak house first and when a $30 steak came with no sides we decided to wander down the road and try this steakhouse. Margaritas are awesome. I had the steak/rib combo and it was amazing. The ribs were tender and the steak was juicy. It came with salad (all salad comes with Ranch Dressing) biscuit, corn in the cob and a baked potato. So much food! The corn was previously frozen and was mushy and the biscuit was "so-so" bit there was so much other food.. Who cares? Also came with beans that we asked not be put on the plate. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, when you're in a tiny town it's slim pickings and your best bet is to go with a steakhouse. Well, we did just that. The beer and wine menu is short but it's good enough. I had to try the local "Rattlesnake" beer which is a tasty lager. I started off with rattlesnake..yes good ol' Arizona sidewinder..battered and fried. The meat was tough as expected but was tasty with a sweet, tangy, spicy sauce they served it with. I also had the jalapeno poppers which were OK. The steak and ribs combo started with a basic salad with only two dressings to choose from. This entree was accompanied by a baked potato and corn on the cob which were OK, beans that were spicy but rather good and a biscuit, which I enjoyed with prickly pear jelly. The juniper-smoked steak at medium-well was a little tough but tasty..it was OK. The ribs on the other hand I enjoyed. They were drenched and cooked just right in their BBQ sauce..the meat came right off the bone as good ribs should. This hearty meal left no room for dessert. I only gave it three stars because, aside from the OK food, the service was slow..a smaller group that came in after us got their food before us. Also, everything is over-priced and there is no need to include 15% gratuity on the bill..for those that didn't read the fine print in the menu. I hope this isn't what's expected in this remote part of the country because I'll be back at the Grand Canyon some day. Seven of usage there. And for the most part we enjoyed our steaks and ribs. All steaks were cooked as ordered, they did have a little more fat than other steak shops, but we're tender. One thing we did not like was some of the portions they provided. Corn bread really good, but the piece they give you is barely enough to taste. And heaven forbid you ask for more. Salad and beans provided family style, which I think you end up getting less. And you cannot ask for more. Also, not the most friendly staff. We would not go again. read more

After 12 hours of hiking, the hubs and I decided to stop here for dinner because he remembered it being good from a few years back. I wish we had read some of the reviews before walking in again. We would have saved ourselves the $75. The bread was stale and dry. My husband ordered his shish kabob well done. About 50% of them were medium rare so he gave them to me. I had to spit out the first bite because the meat was too chewy and of poor quality. My chicken kabob was bland and flavorless but topped with a messy BBQ sauce. Even the baked potato and corn on the cob were not fresh. We had to hunt down our waiter when we were finished in order to get the bill but I could see him sitting at the bar staring into the dining room. They clearly add the mandatory 15% tip because they know nobody would willingly leave one. read more

After catching the sunset at Hopi Point my wife and I came back into town near the South rim of the Grand Canyon. Across the street from our hotel was a steakhouse. The places we wanted to go to all had 45 min. to an hour waits. Ok. Let's try this place. The wait staff were all dressed in western wear, complete with boots and cowboy hats. The place was dark, I guess to resemble life before electricity. The prices are in the $13-$27 range. Just for fun we tried the rattlesnake. It was deep fried but actually very good. My wife had a steak and I had chicken. The chicken was ok. A little bland even with BBQ sauce. The steak was not a very good cut and was also on the bland side. The bill came to about $62.00 including the Rattlesnake beer and appetizers. Kind of high for two people. Not the best we've had and not the worst. Neither of us are coming back. read more
