I swear I had an existing review for this place knowing that I've gone here so much. Yo Mama has been a rollercoaster over the years it has been open. The OG owner grew this place with barely any furniture with more and more boba flavors to try and crazy amounts of toppings to put on your Froyo. A year or two ago, OG owner left it to someone who didn't really care about the place (hence the bad tips you can see in 2016). A few months ago I heard the OG owner came back and I had to come back. Froyo pumps in stock, Froyo to-go in the mini fridge, Toppings fully stocked, and numerous boba tea (bubble tea) flavors on the wall. THANK GOD I've never really tried the coffees as much; however, I had a Chai tea and hot boba (really good on winter days!) there before and it wasn't too bad. And if you're hungry, they have a select choice of ramen. It's a really good place to come by, relax, and chill on Summer days. Only thing I would say is they can use improvement with the new staff and fully cooking the bubbles, but other than that I can still call this place home. read more

Having lived in New York since the froyo craze started, I never really enjoyed Yo Mama much. I don't eat even froyo that much anymore, but I'm totally a Pinkberry fan. I think Yo Mama's froyos are way too sweet for my taste buds, and once you add all the toppings, that's a LOT of sugar. I will say that their topping game is strong and very extensive. I like this place, been coming back cause this is the only place they can make my Thai tea the right way and my kids like hanging out here. I'm giving it 2 stars because of an incident that happened. While my kids and I are hanging out drinking our boba. A guy comes back an return his drink cause they might have done or mix it the wrong way. Not sure if the worker was mad but she took the cup of boba and toss close enough to the trash can where I was sitting near by but not close enough where she missed and spilled some on the couch and my Easter clothes, which stained and left it on my sweater. Hands down the best place to get boba tea in the area! Any time I'm craving any flavor of boba tea, I am quick to come here. As many know (or if you don't know), there aren't many places in the 757 that sell boba tea/jelly ball. The 757 as hip as we thought (just kidding, but not really). The boba is fresh and extremely tasty and on top of that, the tapioca pearls are JUST PERFECT. Not too squishy, but not too hard. Not too sweet, but not too plain as well. I'm not really huge on frozen yogurt, but when I first tried it at Yo Mama, it was delicious. They always have fun flavors such as mango, lychee, and even green tea frozen yogurt! On top of all the yummy flavors for both boba tea and frozen yogurt, they have many different toppings as well. Love love love this place! read more

They have green tea frozen yogurt here! It's pretty good. The toppings selections are pretty much the same thing for all other frozen yogurt shops but they keep it tidy and organized which I like. Also tried their boba drinks here and it was decent, I just prefer the drink only and skip the boba but it was still okay to eat. It didn't taste like yesterday's batch of boba, still was pretty fresh but hardened over a course of hours and still chewy. Location was pretty hidden, tucked away on the left side of Harris Teeter plaza where the Jollibee is. I lived very very close there for a year and didn't even noticed it till a month ago haha. The other is a brilliant cellist, but he won't make you Boba Tea. We love this place. The staff is always friendly and give you delicious things that make your diet coach cuss you out. You want brownie on top of your chocolate on top of your birthday cake flavored yogurt? Suuuuure! YoMama wants you happy happy. Then the Boba Tea, named after Boba Fett. (Okay, not really.) We came in the other night on a Groupon -- thanks for offering that, guys -- and the employee was very friendly about it, completely unsurprised and ready to ring up two embarrassingly huge frozen yogurts at around $6.00 each. There are lots of flavor options here; notably, Yo Mama offers both tart and sweet styles. The tart vanilla, pineapple, and strawberry were particularly good. A heavenly-tasting white chocolate cheesecake and taro stood out as two non-tart options. (A machine labeled "mango" dispensed peach flavored yogurt, oops!) There are a ton of toppings available here, too; your standard selection of sweet choices (e.g. brownie bites, sprinkles, chocolate chips) and fruit options (blackberries, pineapples, strawberries). On top of that, feel free to put on the house hot fudge, Hershey's syrup, or one of three types of Magic Shell. You'll pay around $0.37 by the ounce when all's said and done. The ice cream was very good, and so were the toppings (although the brownies might have been a little past their prime). While you sit and eat, feel free to borrow one of the board games on the shelf and entertain yourself. (My girlfriend and I played a good five rounds of Connect 4, and I totally beat her five out of five, if my memory serves.) If you don't have another favorite frozen yogurt place, come by and give Yo Mama's a shot! (One note: We woke up the morning after Yo Mama's with pretty bad stomachaches. This is my second trip here in a two weeks. I learned from the first time. Fill you cup up to the top and dessert is easily going to cost you $10. This time I wasn't so free with the lever and the toppings. My brother, however, wasn't so worried about being free since I was flipping the bill... (Insert slight roll of the eyes and bad word here.) It's nice that it is around the corner from me but if the foot traffic is heavy it's more of an in and out place since the joint is small. If the place is quiet hang out and enjoy yourself. Their cheesecake flavored yogurt is the bomb!!! Their strawberry flavor is just right and it's nice that they have sugar free chocolate. Since they do switch the flavors it can be hit or miss. I had the cheesecake flavor several weeks back and have missed it on my last two visits. They have all the toppings you can ask for. I'm more of a fruit guy instead of adding all the candies. The only thing I wish they had was bananas. Maybe they do because they rotate their goods. I'm 0 for 3 on that though. They had raspberries the last time I was there but not this afternoon. Good little spot. It would be perfect if the surrounding area was like a park instead of a parking lot. The cashiers have been great...with the exception of the owner, who I don't find to be as nice as his staff (and pretty stingy too, ie. you can use the Groupon but you can't get stamps for the amount you paid out of pocket nor can you use your military discount...but he does have a business to run). Hmmmm...another fro-yo joint? After reading about it in the local paper, I decided to head over. What a great place! The space has a light and airy feel. Very inviting with comfy chairs inside and rockers outside. The layout of the space allowed the flow of people to move smoothly from machines to topping bar to the cash register. On the day we went, there were about 9 different flavors, mostly fruit, but also chocolate and toffee. The taste is tart and sweet and delicious as they use real yogurt instead of pre-made mixes. Mango and blueberry were my two favorites after sampling them all. Topping bar was well stocked and everything was chopped/cut into nice small pieces. The fruit toppings were fresh and in addition to the normal fruit/cereal/candy toppings, there were dark chocolate flakes and even little mochi bites. A good variety. Same concept as the other local fro-yo places. Self-serve and priced by weight. A great addition to the local fro-yo scene, and a tasty way to get your daily dose of probiotics! read more

I remembered why I stopped coming here. I ordered a milk tea boba drink (you know, typical milk tea with pearls) and the experience was the worse I've had. I don't know why I thought an establishment would be able to serve me something a little bit more professional or even similar to the photo then I remembered I walked into a place of business where drinks were $4.99. They made my drink IN A MAGIC BULLET. I realized I was ordering a drink I could of made at home. (Even at home, I made the decision to invest in a Vitamix.) The magic bullet didn't crush the ice at all so not only did I have a drink with chunks of ice in it AND pearls, it also had NO flavor. Everyone could tell I was upset and another customer ordered a boba drink too and was very upset. He then approached me and said "this isn't very good. the other people make it better." I asked what he meant and he said that they have other employees that make it better and since I've done some time in the smoothie/juice business, I know consistency is key. It's what makes customers come back. Hmm sounds like a training problem... Decided to give this place a try again last night and my friends were the guinea pigs. When they TRIED to order a thai boba drink the employee told them they only had enough ice for one LARGE one. Not one regular sized boba drink, one LARGE. So, the 5 of us stared at each other to decide who the lucky person was. I was not quick to volunteer....everyone else got yogurt. While enjoying each others company inside we noticed a family come in and order drinks. I guess ice magically appeared. I'll let that story speak for itself... I will now only come here for the yogurt (tart is my favorite) and the mochi because when you want something done right, you do it yourself. read more

It's been such a delight to see this place grow over the last years. They not only serve froyo, but they now serve Boba (Bubble) Tea in what seems like an endless variety of flavors. They now also serve cappuccinos and espresso for those that need an extra punch in the face after food coma. Merch is also available for anyone that wants to support the local business. The store is packed with iKea decor and seating. Pretty good set up with a table for the adults and another for children. They keep those stacked with board games and jenga! In case you feel the need to just kick back and relax. A small flat screen on the corner always plays kiddie shows to keep those darn kids entertained with their sugar rush. Restroom all the way at the back that is kept pretty clean for patrons. Typically, they switch out some of their froyo flavor from time to time, however, a few favorites remain daily, like the Taro flavor! Two cup sizes to choose from - and priced by their weight. FINALLY!!! a real "Korean style" froyo place like Pinkberry or Red Mango in town. Stopped by tonight after dinner. We were greeted immediately at the door...very friendly :) They had tons of flavors including original tart, strawberry, blueberry, watermelon, honeydew, peach, vanilla, chocolate & even peanut butter. Loads of toppings to choose from including fresh fruit, candies, cereals, and even mochi! They get extra props for having mochi! You can sample all the flavors, then serve yourself. They weigh it at the end and charge you according to the scale. I would give it 5 stars except I am not a fan of the yogurt by weight thing. It ends up being more expensive than the traditional Pinkberry-type stores where the employees make the yogurt for you. I also wish they had a location closer to our house. Actually, that's a bad idea because we would go everyday. That's $300 a month on froyo. NOT good! but yo mama is very good. so go get some! read more

You know, these types of FroYo places are all over. So, creativity is hard to judge. They have tasty Yogurt for sure. I mean, I'm a total fan of Cake Batter with some chocolate. Now, what gives Yo Mama a star bump (from 3 to 4) is the fruit! Normally when I go to these places there's a few terrible looking pieces of fruit on the bottom of a bowl. Had a craving for froyo last night and weirdly enough none of the closer shops to us had the original tart which is my husband's favorite. So we drove over here at around ten after 8. The guy behind the counter was friendly but I wasn't overly impressed with the actual interior of this place. Kind of reminded me of the local carvel in my hometown. It was much smaller than the Chesapeake location and didn't have the hip and open feel of the one on Volvo Parkway. I got a cup of mostly original tart with some taro. Neither tasted especially amazing. My husband didn't care for their version of original tart. Toppings were pretty standard although I didn't see the mini cheesecake bites that I usually put on. No matter. It was a mediocre experience and I probably wouldn't drive out there again even if the craving is real. read more

You're either going to love it or hate it, however, they have the freshest toppings I have ever seen. The place is always clean and the kids that work there are always so pleasant and sweet.
