I forgot that I stopped here almost 6 years ago. It was during the pandemic when people stayed inside to be safe. If they went to get food, it would be takeout. And in some cases, folks would eat in their vehicle. That was the case when I went here for the 1st time. Fast forward to now, I happened to run into The SnoBall Shop when I picked up food from a food truck nearby. Let's see how everything went. After leaving a food truck right across the street, I headed here to order a snoball which I haven't had over a year. Just like the 1st time, you head to the front to place your order. Beforehand, I took a look at all the flavors available and chose white chocolate. I also chose marshmallow fluff for the topping. Overall, the snoball was good. The white chocolate flavor was present throughout and having the marshmallow fluff as a topping and in the middle helped with each serving. The snoball did melt due to the weather outside, but it was totally fine. Once again, the SnoBall Shop came through for yours truly. I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area. 3.5 rounded up. Service was great, the gentleman was kind and I inquired about the superhero $1 discount in uniform. There are numerous options available explained on their signage. I opted for the kiddie size snowball which was a good portion. It includes 2 flavors, but I chose add-ons - whip cream and tajin and added vanilla ice cream at additional cost. I'm glad he informed me that due to the kiddie size, adding ice cream would increase the height and most likely have the snoball spill over. He offered to place the ice cream on the side to avoid spillage which I greatly appreciated. They have a large variety of flavors and the reason for the 3.5 stars was due to the taste. I had the passion fruit and tiger's blood. I think the tiger's blood is a sugar free flavor with splenda, so that may have been the reason why I wasn't loving it. I did finish the entire thing though. Haha.. I've just had better tasting at other local businesses. It's located in Primrose shopping center near the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. There's plenty of parking available and they have 3 vibrantly colored tables for seating. Sunday Funday with my kiddos this past weekend and I decided to bring them to The Snoball Shop (TSS) to treat them to a frozen treat (their fave kind) after a late lunch. I had heard so much about TSS, so WHY, just WHY have I waited this long to check this place out?! I know TSS call their treats "snoballs", but we were stationed in Hawaii for 3 years and TSS has been the first place that has come close to the amazing texture of Hawaiian shave ice, so soft and pillowy, just like in Hawaii! As I understand it, TSS offers NOLA style snoballs? TSS offers 4 different types of frozen items: snoballs (snoball and flavor with toppings), snoshakes (snoball blended with milk mix and syrup flavors), snodas (snoball and soda) and snovivers (snoball mixed with Redbull). They have 80 syrup flavors, various toppings and ice cream as an add on. - Noms - My kids each ordered a kiddie cup of snoballs. One of my kids ordered a Superhero (I think this was blue raspberry and cherry and my other kid ordered mango & peach. Both were so good! Straight up snoball and syrup. Perfect for the day, that was supposed to be cool, but in the hot sun, it was a perfect way to cool down. I, on the other hand, opted for the Snoshake because I was thinking about convenience, so that I can take my time and sip it on my ride home. My kids may be small, but they can clear a treat in seconds, so I figured something in a cup while driving once they were done. I chose coffee and vanilla custard as my two syrup choices. The snoball is mixed with a milk mixture, your two choice of syrups and the topped with whipped cream and I also opted for the drizzle. I have a big sweet tooth, but I definitely would pass on this item the next time I visit. It was definitely too sweet for me, and I didn't taste the coffee flavor, but I'll just stick to the original snoball next time. They get all the stars from me, just based on the snoball texture alone! I am sad that we only have one more month to enjoy their treats, but I'll know better for next year. It's hot outside, so it's the perfect excuse for snowball! The snowballs were delicious but the line was a little long. That's how you know it's good, though. I wished there was shade for the line, however. You can mix and match two flavors in one snowball. They also have toppings such as pop rocks that you can add to your snowball. I will warn you, do not add pop rocks directly to your snowball LOL. They pop everywhere. I took a bit of the snowball, then shook pop rocks directly into my mouth. Im a pro snowball eater though. It's more like 45 minutes to an hour. The people who worked there were okay, the ordering/pick up was kind of inefficient. The snowball I ordered was good, a little pricey though. Since I'm not a snowcone connoisseur I can't say exactly what makes them different than all the ones I have tried in the past. Maybe it is the insane amount of toppings, addins, and flavors? Maybe it is the type of light & fluffy shaved ice that they use. I don't know, but this place won me over in the first bite. They are located in a stand alone building with several picnic tables out front. They have Xs on the ground for customers to maintain social distancing while in line. Even on a beautiful Friday afternoon in June my time in line was brief. There is no indoor seating which makes this spot perfect for the current situation, but you should plan to have a car picnic on a rainy or cold day. I was so overwhelmed looking at the menu so I did what I do and sent them a quick message on Instagram and asked for a recommendation. I ordered the "Strawberry Fields" based on their response and it was amazing! It was strawberry with a hint of lime, cream, strawberry puree, and whipped cream. Yes please! I think the cream was the "must have" mix in for my future orders. The whole creation was a game changer and a small was more than enough for me. I also didn't have that heavy "dairy-filled" feeling that I sometimes get eating ice cream on a hot day. They have a special flavor combination each week. The week I went it was berries and cream. I suspect that I will continue to just let the board choose for me and go with whatever special creation they have that week. What a FUN place! I have never had a sno-cone before. I was a bit nervous and excited all at the same time. The number one great thing for me is that they have great signs to read explaining how it all works and what they offer. I love that!!! Then it was time to order. I admitted to the girl it was my first time ever getting a snow cone. She then got so excited. Just as excited as me. She gave me an Awesome color changing cup and I ordered a FROG'R. It is a pineapple and fruit punch with a huge cool gummy frog on top. I felt like a kid getting a fancy treat. They never had anything like this when I was a kid. The flavors were great together. I loved it. My little niece is more of the pro when it comes to snow cones. She said she has had lots but it was her first time at SnoBall. So she ordered something she had never even heard of before. Something called a SnoShake. Her flavors she chose was cheesecake with a marshmallow drizzle. Oh when we tasted it we both had the same reaction, Headtilt back, eyes rolled to the back of our heads and we both yelled out. OH THAT'S SO GOOD!!!! I'm not a huge fan of snow cones; however, I had to slide through to The SnoBall Shop when I found out they were offering two free toppings with any order for Yelp's Sweet Sixteen. After looking over the menu, I opted for a SnoCream (snow cone with ice cream in the middle) with caramel flavoring, caramel syrup, and whipped cream on top in a color-changing cup (because you know I had to set up my Instagram. Okuuuuur?) Lauren was extremely helpful in helping me choose what I wanted and being patient while I was trying to navigate through the menu. It should also be noted that in addition to their great customer service, this place perfectly follows social distancing guidelines by having Xs marked in line, all staff wearing masks, and plenty of outside seating. I am a huge fan of high quality shaved ice (not your regular old snow cone) and this place takes it all to another level for me. The amount of toppings they offer is unrivaled! I've been twice now, and left absolutely stuffed. I will have to get the smallest size next time, because even the regular has proven to be too much for me. I love how I can be creative with my own combination of syrup flavors, creams, and other toppings to make a masterpiece. I only wish they had more pre-created combos to make ordering easier for those who don't want to get extra creative on their own. I decided for a large cherry marachino with condensed milk and coconut cream add on with peach purée. It was absolutely delicious. Such a cool place!! It's perfectly refreshing for the summer. The menu is super complicated unless you've been here before so just ask a lot of questions. I got the special which was something with cotton candy dipin dots and other yummy flavors. The small size was plenty big and I'm so glad I didn't get a bigger one. It was so good!! I didn't catch the name of the girl that serviced my family at the window but she was extremely professional, patient (with my indecisive kids debating between the 100 flavor options), and did not hesitate to ensure customer satisfaction. A few customers ahead of me, returned to ask for more syrup because they were not satisfied with the original serving & the staff obliged with smiles! I saw 3 employees & it was obvious that they were working together seamlessly to provide superb service while guaranteeing that each customer was happy with their SnoBall. So we just moved back to the 757 from Hawaii and we were craving our shaved ice fix. Saw this place and gave it a try. It was amazing!! Just as soft as the north shore and mountain house in waikele, and a ton of flavors. If they had added the dazzle dazzle of mochi as an add in this place would be off the charts!!! Not only were the workers friendly but the snocones were amazing. this place didn't skimp on the flavor at all like a lot of other places we've been and the snow was actually light and snow not crushed ice pellets. My husband ordered fruity pebbles/cream soda, my kids chose rainbow and subbed pineapple for orange and I chose mango/orange/pineapple. Pelican's reminds me of a similar shaved ice shack back in my hometown that recently closed. Me and all my friends greatly mourned the closing of SnoShack but Pelican's brought me back to some hot, sweaty summer days when I craved sweet and syrup-y shaved ice. My friend and I split a small (forgot the novelty name for the small) tigers blood with extra cream drizzled on top. I was impressed with the flavors and toppings offered by this place. Definitely not like the crunchy, watery snow cones I remember getting as a kid :) (or the free ones at every TCC Spring/Fall Carnival, teheh) There are four sizes available: kids, regular $3.25, large $4, or avalanche $5! There are 100 flavores available and you can get toppings such as sweetened condensed milk, marshmallow, sour spray, gummy candy, etc for $0.50 more! You can also get your SnoBall "stuffed" with Hershey's chocolate or vanilla ice cream for $1.75 extra! I tried a regular sized mango & tamarind with condensed milk and my boyfriend got a regular POG (passion fruit, orange, guava) & Hurricane (mixed berries). Both really yummy and just the right size! I'm so tempted to go back and try new flavor combinations! The only downside I can say about this business is the awful smell outside. I like this place because they have any flavors and toppings you can think of here. 52 flavors. It's a small shop that sells iced flavors customized to your own liking. There's no indoor dining, but there are 4 tables outside. Kinda sucks they only have 2 umbrellas for shade. They sell either a regular, large, or extra large. I always get the regular because it's a decent size. You can pick 2 flavors. Toppings are an extra .75 cents. They also sell pup cups for $1.00! Either vanilla or peanut butter flavor and they give a biscuit with it. Ok, I've been craving Mangonada/chamoyada for 10 months. It's a Spanish mango dessert. I've only had it in California and i could never find it in VA. Luckily, this place has about all the ingredients for it (except actual mango) It's mango flavor with mango purée, tajin, and Chamoy. There are TONS and I mean tons of flavors. That was the first thing that made my heart skip a beat. I decided to do a non alcoholic-alcoholic ice! Lol Margarita, pink champagne, and a blue fizzy flavor! You can choose between fruit, candy, creamy, I mean any flavor and craving you're looking for. I added pineapple purée and pop rocks to mine because I'm a 6 year old at heart. I've been hearing about this place for a while now, but the new one off of VB Blvd, Norfolk location. I honestly didn't know they had one here in Lynnhaven until my family wanted to come here after lunch. This is my first time trying Pelican's Snowball. They had over 100 flavors to choose from, didn't think they had so much flavor for Snowballs (wowserz). Anyways, mostly everyone in my family ordered something different so we could try each other's out lol. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Perfect snow cones. They're fluffy, cold, & full of flavor! Remember snow cones that have chunky and really hard small pieces of ice? The ones that taste like they're flavored with kool-aid? That is NOT how they are here. The ice is soft and slushy, and this makes for even flavoring throughout; down to the last drop. There are 100 flavors to choose from - the usuals such as all your favorite fruits, you can mix & match them, there's strawberry shortcake, creamsicle, classic Cola flavor, down to the funky novelty flavors like Dill Pickle, & toothpaste! What!? Lol. And if you manage to try all 100 flavors in one season, you get a T-shirt! I loved the two mixes I've tried so far - first time I had the Orange + Vanilla snow cream which tasted like a perfect Creamsicle! I fell in love right then & there. Oh! Living close to Pelican's and driving by it more than a hundred times a week, I always notice the abundance of people standing in line for sno cones. You can't miss it: it's in the middle of a parking lot with a bright blue awning and bright pink picnic tables sitting in front of it. It used to be a drab looking BBQ stand that looked pitiful and is probably glad to be gone. We came during rush hour so the whizzing of cars driving down Lynnhaven Pkwy made it kinda loud so keep your kids in sight if you let them run around. Pelican's offer hundreds of flavors and you can make any combo you want or choose from pre-made or popular flavor combos. Prices are pretty decent. Plenty of parking or you can come ride your bike here. With that said, my first experience wasn't the greatest as some people who were waiting in their cars and they just blared loud, inappropriate music. It's a friendly, family type environment and establishment so hearing curse words loud and clear was quite a disappointment. I know it's not the business' fault but I think a manager should have come out to tell them to please be considerate of other patrons. I'm sure they could hear it from inside. There were about 20 people in line and half were kids, including my brand new teenager, who was the 20th person in line - haha. Line moves kinda slow, which I can understand because it is just 1 serving window, but my son said it was worth it. Happy teenager, happy mom!
