What a nice fine Typically when my mom and I meet in Vacaville we eat at Buckhorn or Mendocino Farms. However, when we walked out of HomeGoods, I smelled teriyaki chicken and went on a quest. This place is across the street and it does not disappoint. Why is it good because it has some of the best season and cooked vegetables I've had a Japanese restaurant the teriyaki sauce is flavorful without being over sweet. The rice is a 10 out of 10. The vegetables are a 10 out of 10 chicken eight out of 10 shrimp. Nine out of 10, according to my mom. We will definitely add this place to our rotation. Sad to see things change. I used to live nearby a couple years ago and this was a goto spot. Since I've moved I would still drop by and grab a togo order when I'm visiting family or just passing through. I'm sorry to say but change of hours over the years have made it increasingly inconvenient. This place was not on my radar but I quickly saw that the menu looked promising. I decided on the noodles and chicken, which comes with one sauce. I ordered paid and sat to wait for my food. My plate had so much fried rice with 5-6 tiny pieces of beef. Their mix vegetables had baby sized broccoli and scraps of carrots but mainly onions with 5 small shrimps. Very greedy of this business to offer poor serving portions for a "habachi-styled" fast food joint. If you want something comparable to their habachi steak, just order a small entree of angus beef from Panda Express. Panda has more to offer. Hungry on a Thursday night, decided to give Koi Express a try. We walked in and were greeted by a team of friendly employees. They helped us decide what to order by showing us pictures of the entrees, which looked really yummy! We ordered nearly everything on the menu: shrimp, steak, chicken, scallops, sushi, noodles, etc. to go and ate at home. The sushi was fresh and yummy! The chicken plates had a good amount of chicken and the steak plate had a good amount of steak. But the shrimp and scallop plates only had a couple pieces next to a huge pile of rice (see pics). The shrimp noodles looked like they were guna be bomb! but as I slurped em up I was disappointed that the noodles didn't taste like anything at all. Not even a hint of garlic. Then I read more reviews and see that other people said the same thing about the noodles being bland. Sad. I really wanted to like Koi express. He knows his regular customers so well and their orders! He calls them by their name and that is very important when working in this customer service industry! I had ordered the, "Koi Special" which is hibachi steak, chicken and shrimp with a side of fried rice and veggies! Onions, broccoli and carrots wok'd, so goooood! Also they give a small cup of "Yum Yum" sauce which like a special kind of mayo sauce that you put on the hibachi meat or rice. However you want it but damn that sauce is soooo goooood! They had asked me how I wanted my steak cooked and I said medium, and it tasted yummy! I also got a side of shrimp shumai, I don't recall being a big fan of it. It was okay but that won't stop me from trying the other appetizers! And I will be back to Koi Express everytime I'm in Vacaville! I love fresh food and Koi Express makes my tummy so happy! OK start with the positives. delivery was fast and on point. the Hibachi chicken had a lot of food. The negatives. The chicken was way over cooked. Sushi roll was not only 18 bucks but was old fish. Sushi is not supposed to smell or taste like bait. The portion was also very small. Smaller than most other sushi spot in town that are 2/3s the price for the tiger roll. Now that i pulled up the price online they overcharged me by 3 bucks. I could deal with the over cooked chicken. but the sushi was upsetting. Calling about the overcharge Tiger roll on website is 14.95 i was charged 17.95. Just got off the phone. When you click order delivery it connects to a 3rd party site. only thing i saw was free delivery. However, they increased the prices to offset cost.
