It was my first time trying this place. I got the chicken ramen. I didn't get sprouts or mushrooms in it. But the ambience was nice just a quaint restaurant. The soup was good! I loved the boiled egg with the corn and broth very very good. The noodles were cooked nicely as well. It's a really negative vibe when you go to this place. They have signs everywhere telling you what not to do and what to do. Don't sit at the tables till you order. The lids don't fit on the water cups. If you want soda you need to pay for it. I did appreciate the sign on the inside of the bathroom door telling you how to tell if the bathroom door is locked or not. They must have a lot of issues to need to put signs all around the establishment. For me it just really put me off and took away from the ambiance. When we arrived we went to the register to order. The person taking our order was very quick and lacked pleasantries. Once we placed our order we were directed to a specific table. We sat at our table and one of us got our waters. I have to say that Ramen 101's Black Garlic Ramen was pretty good. I would rate it a 4 star for flavor. They would have gotten a five star if they would put more noodles and make the pork char siu thicker cuts like they do back home in Hawaii. I would suggest using pork belly. It taste way better they you can charge $18.50 per bowl The service was quick felt almost rushed which I could tell because my ramen wasn't hot enough when it was brought to the table. Place was clean but please find something else that doesn't smell like chemicals when you are spraying down a table to clean and you have a customer who is eating at a nearby table. A simple chlorine/water solution would be better or anything that would not smell so strong to make your customer stop eating and leave. read more

The restaurant itself is very basic with a counter service and a kiosk, if you want to utilize it. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with medium spice. The taste was just ok but the thing that bothered me most is that it wasn't very hot. I mean it was steaming at the table but since it was cool inside, it didn't take much for the steam effect. This was consistent for all of our orders at our table. For a place that serves soup, the food should come out piping hot. The service is usually good and they are pretty quick when you place your order. The inside has plenty of seating but does get packed on the weekends. The bbq chicken plate is also pretty good and tastes better than the L&L around the corner. I ordered the chicken Katsu curry. It was honestly gross. The chicken smelled like fish, the white race was bland and boring, the curry had no flavor or spices whatsoever. Considering it's a dine in restaurant, they served us plastic forks and knives, imagine using a plastic knife for cutting the fishy smelling chicken(yes it was hell). I got scared beacuse I saw a worker who came back into the restaurant from being outside and he came back in with one of the cooking mixing bowls as if he had washed it outside. I've been here quite a few times and every experience was really great. I usually get the tonkotsu pork ramen or the seafood ramen and it's so delicious. The food is amazing! However, my last experience wasn't very great. My boyfriend and I ordered $60 worth of food here and split the cost between two different debit cards. He paid $30 with his card, and I paid the rest with my card and added a 10% tip so my total came out to $34.51. The chip on my debit card doesn't work, so I had to use tap from my phone. The payment wasn't working so the worker had me tap my phone a few times and it finally went through. Well, since I had to tap so many times, I ended up being charged 3 times. I let the manager know and he said the payments should go away within a few days. No big deal. A week later, the payments still didn't go back to my card. I went back to the restaurant, I explained the situation and showed my bank statement, and the manager issued me a refund by telling me to use tap again to get my refund. The refund never went back to card. I check the refund receipt, and he issued the refund back to my boyfriends card instead of my card, so when I tapped with MY debit card, the refund wouldn't have gone through because it's a different card. I asked if I could just have the refund in cash, which I should've just done to begin with. He kept saying there's nothing he could do and I should just wait a couple days to see the money on my card. That's what he said last time and it never worked. I told him that $60 is a lot of money for me to not have, and please just give me the cash since the refund will not go back on my card because he refunded the wrong card (which will not be going to either card because I tapped with my card, not my boyfriend's card) Finally, he rudely hands me the cash and says "I'll just take it out of my paycheck" I just feel like this is bad customer service, and also are they scamming? I recommend only using cash here so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I remember the worker saying this has happened a few times. Really unfortunate because the food great, but I don't think I'll be dining here again due to their managers poor customer service skills. I've been in the restaurant industry myself for 10 years, I hate to leave a bad review because I understand running a restaurant is stressful and we aren't always our best selves during those stressful situations, but if he would've just taken the time to hear me out, especially since he's the owner I'm assuming, then I wouldn't be so upset. I would rate this 0 stars if I could. My first impression of this restaurant was TERRIBLE. I ordered some ramen to go with a veg broth, no meat. I get home and see two big pieces of pork, awesome. I call them to ask for a refund, the manager is trying to tell me why the "broth is ok because it was separate" AFTER I told her I can't trust the broth to be veggie because they put meat in the noodles. To top it all off I have to physically go back for a refund because they cannot process a refund over the phone! It is a small joint, the tables are close together. Got the black garlic and the pork rib ramens. The black garlic was less black garlic and more regular garlic which is fine because I do love garlic but they should call it what it is. The pork rib is "premium pricing" and it was ok. it wasn't fall off the bone and was a bit tough. The ramen broth itself was ok... it's rare that I say any ramen lacks flavor but both broths were bland. I was surprised with all the reviews maybe we came on an off day, but we're from the bay where there are a plethora of ramen shops and this just didn't check the boxes for me. There was no line when I arrived. The tables already had customers eating their meals. But, there was a couple of tables. I ordered the seafood ramen(spicy), vegetable tempura, and a can of some Hawaiian fruit juice in a can; Guava hector flavor. After paying, I sat at an open table and waited while my food was being prepared. My spicy seafood ramen came out 10 minutes later. It was nice sized bowl for the price. It has shrimp, bamboo shoots bean sprouts, corn, green onions, scallops, and egg. It was hot and delicious! Perfect amount of heat from the spice. I couldn't finish it all and started packing half for later. I slurped like crazy! Ya girl was hungry...my face was shoved in my bowl for a few solid minutes!! LOL My vegetable tempura came out another 5 minutes after getting my ramen. It was hot, crispy. The veggies were never soggy. Again, I packed half to take for later as I couldn't finish it all. Thought we would give this place a try given we come by this area frequently. They have one sized bowls for all ramen. I could have really used a smaller bowl, but makes sense from a business standpoint. The pork was delicious, the broth was ok, noodles was fairly decent- I like that it wasn't heavily saturated with noodles- the broth was alright- I have definitely had better. Service was great. Today was a Ramen kind of day. We had our dog so we sat outside. They don't allow dogs inside the restaurant which we understand. When you sit outside, you have to order 'to-go'. The inside is not big...probably had 12 tables. Service was good and got our orders fairly quickly. We had the Chasu Rice, Tonkatsu Ramen, Black Garlic Ramen and Karaage Chicken. All were good.
