Granted, on the two Saturdays I wanted to go to Doughlab, they sold out before noon and I'm not much of a morning person. Luckily, on the Sunday I went, they still had plenty in stock before noon. I'm glad they're pretty active on their Instagram (@doughlab_loudon) so I was able to check their Instagram story if they were sold out for the day or not. Their Instagram is also a good place to see what that week's rotation of flavors are. Doughnuts Ordered: * worth trying - [Everything Bagel Doughnut w/ Chives]: I was most excited to try this because I've never heard of a savory doughnut before but I was little disappointed. I thought the everything bagel seasoning on the outside was too salty and there was too much whipped cream cheese filling for my preference. Still, a very unique doughnut. - [Pumpkin Pie (Filled)*]: Conversely, I wish there was more pumpkin creme filling in this doughnut; I loved the whipped consistency. - [Cinnamon Brioche Twist Doughnut*]: This was so good! They reminded me of kkwabaegi. Would I go back? : I would but, sadly, yesterday, Dec 28th, was Doughlab's last day of operations due to the owner moving away. I'm glad I was able to try them before they closed. I've been maybe 3-4 times and so far it's been a super chill cafe experience here. Beignets and dipping sauces, along with some drink options, are more than enough for me. I will say they're a little denser than say Cafe Du Monde in NOLA, but overall feel pretty representative. Maybe timing when you go is super important. I've only gone early-mid mornings on the weekend and everything I've had tasted super fresh, but some of the other experiences I'm reading feel like what happens when I reheat some older ones I kept in the fridge. Heading to the counter the staff is very nice and very quick with their service. I got a late and some beignets to go. They are so delicious fresh and even good the next day. I'll be honest and have never had beignets from New Orleans but if they're like these then I'll be happy to try them.

It required very little to no convincing. Sadly, they were out of half of their options, but we tried the PANDAN CUSTARD DOUGHNUT (4.65) because we both like pandan. The custard was creamy with a strong pandan flavor. The donut was soft and chewy with a delicious sugar layer. I'm sure these have been sitting out for a few hours, so I'm impressed how well they hold up. I would definitely pay the price for these delicious doughnuts again.

I was able to try their new hojicha cinnamon roll and the classic miso pumpkin donut this past weekend at a pop-up they attended, and it was delicious as always (but not as fresh as it used to be at the markets, of course). My friend also loved her black sesame kouign amann, and I've enjoyed their croissants I nthe past. It's just a really solid home bakery, and I was excited to hear they might be opening a storefront in Annandale soon. Definitely check them out if you see them!

However, they are either backed up with the cooking or understaffed.. They are on the same block/building as Altitude, so there is a parking garage around the corner, as well as some parking in the front of the storefronts. Would I return? Absolutely for sure

Apparently it's popular, so you either need to go early or luck out. The cream puffs and cookies are great, but I finally got a kouign amann. It's a lovely pastry. The sugar/thin layer of caramel on the top is substantial without being too thick. Just enough to hold and break apart. The laminated dough is nice as well. Not overly buttery, but still light and fluffy.
