    Pork Katsu Curry

The first thing is that they had designated parking in the lot which was great. The restaurants aesthetic matches the name for sure. We were greeted when we walked on and were seated quickly. For appetizers we ordered purple yam fries and the seaweed salad. The purple yam fries were okay it could have used some type a dip to enhance the flavor. The seaweed salad was good and not slimy like other places. The pork katsu was really good! The thickness and light breading was just the way I like it. The curry was flavorful as well and had a mild kick to it. We will definitely be visiting them again since I love pork katsu and it's close to where we live.

Overall, it was just an okay experience. It wasn't bad, but I just didn't love it. The music was way too loud, so it was hard to have a conversation. And the server seemed very overwhelmed even though the restaurant wasn't even half full. They were kinda slow to bring out the food. And i really had to flag her down to get the check. Even after she acknowledged me, she went and did a lot of other things before finally bringing our checks. The food was good but not my fave. The bowls were on the sweeter side. Ochazuke had a very small piece of salmon, very misleading from the picture on the menu. The okonomiyaki was pretty good. And the edamame was very garlicky and flavorful. The shrimp was good as well. But if i could be honest, i probably won't return.

First time at Yokushi Robata, it's a funky eclectic restaurant located on Richmond Ave in Houston, TX. Lots of large pieces of wood in the restaurant including interior, table and chairs. The decorations are very colorful and eye-catching. Interestingly, they wete playing k-pop in the background. I needed a pre-dinner snack after skipping lunch before a 2 hour fitness class. I ordered shrimp with mango sauce. The shrimp was very nicely cooked so much so you could eat the shell. Little to much mango sauce. I also got a dark meat garlic chicken skewer, which was the stand out. The chicken was tender with the right amount of garlic

Best robata I have had in a long time. Definitely recommend. The full squid was fantastic. Service was fast. Inside looks really cute. One negative thing, the music is horrible. It definitely didn't match the vibe of the place.

Yokushi Robata is a casual dining option for those in the mood for Japanese bites. They offer many dishes you could find in a typical Japanese izakaya such as yakitori, aji fry, and gyoza to name a few. They also have main dishes like rice bowls and ramen. The set up is nice; you can order as you go or order everything at once. Service is kind and efficient. There are different seating options so you could go in a group or dine alone near the grills. My only con is that Yokushi Robata is on the pricier side. It's not an upscale business, and there are other Japanese eateries I would recommend before it. However it's a good place to try out if you are in the area!

Good food in a tough sushi market in Houston. The fried mackerel was a bit different but good. The sashimi good quality. Friendly service , d Don't be scared by dodgy businesses nearby

We came here around 8 pm on a Saturday night. We were lucky and found a parking spot as someone pulled out. We were seated and our food came out quickly. Tho, our main dishes came out before the yakitoris. They told us the yakitoris would take about 15 mins. We came here to eat some comfort food with all of this cold weather going on. The eel is smoked and rarely have bones so it's great to eat in a rice bowl with some pickled veggies without a worrry. The baked curry beef is super comforting and there's rice under the cheese and beef. It was super cheesy and yummy. The bacons and chicken skin was nice and crispy. The Umeshiso Tsukune was good too and had a small sour kick as expected. They were quick and nice. Table was clean and stable. Parking is free but hard to find in front so back up plan is the movie garage across the street in the back.

I am the quintessential sushi lover who can be adventurous and open minded but also, occasionally, make the same choice(s) for comfort's sake. It is fair to say I am not a Poke aficionado, even though most of the same ingredients in sushi appear in Poke. Oftentimes, I just think of the contents in Poke as deconstructed sushi or sashimi. So, to better familiarize myself with the Poke phenomenon, I decided to look up a few places in Honolulu, Hawaii. Three of the places I looked at, all highly rated: 1. Ryder's Poke. 2. Off the Hook. 3. Poke Fix. The way these Hawaiian places make Tuna Poke is really inspiring and, visually, it looks totally different. Now, this is after having already tried both Local Poke and Seaside Poke here in Houston over the years. Of the two, my clear fave, overwhelmingly, is Seaside Poke on the East side. Having known about Yokushi Robata for a while, I decided to check it out recently and order the Ahi Tuna Poke. Going in, I knew exactly what is included in the bowl: Tuna, Seaweed, Cucumber and Mango. So, I called to ask more questions about ingredients and other menu offerings. It just seemed like the staff are kind of on the rigid side of things, and the person who answered the phone made it clear there's no avocado in the Tuna Poke, but you automatically get avocado when ordering either the Hawaiian Sake Poke or the Spicy Salmon Poke. In my view, staff should be more flexible re: adding or subbing ingredients. Regarding the Poke bowl I ordered, It was good, but I always got the feeling it would have benefited from more ingredient options - so I added some extra stuff later at home. I also asked about Tempura Shrimp and the woman who answered the phone stated they don't offer it (Say what!? Haha). Overall, this is a really minimal Poke compared to places in Hawaii that I looked at. At first, I was OK with the minimal style, but as stated above and below, I found myself just wanting more to be included even though I liked the dish. Service was good, overall. Ambience wise, if you think of the decor in an Izakaya, Yoshiuki Robata's decor kind of mirrors that. Personally, I think it is really cool. I did notice only one party dining at a table when I stopped by to pick up my order. Granted, this was before the dinner rush, but, still, not seeing more than two people dining in is a bit of a concern for the business itself. Perhaps it is busier at other times. Parking: Sometimes a challenge. Located Near: Trendy Vegan a few doors down and across the street from Costco. Ingredients in Poke: 1. Plain Ahi Tuna 2. Seaweed 3. Cucumber 4. Mango Added Later at Home: 1. Avocado 2. Minced Ginger 3. Buldak Flakes 4. Buldak Sauce 5. Central Market Roasted Seaweed [Teriyaki] 6. TJ's Everything But the Bagel Salmon It Would Have Benefited From: 1. Masago 2. Avocado 3. Ginger 4. Scallions 5. Spicy Option 6. Nori Strips 7. Less Rice, More Ingredients. 8. Moisture. 9. More Flavorful Tuna 10. Sushi Grade 11. Perhaps some Kimchi

Amazing place. Very quaint and overall nice environment, definitely could tell I was at an Izakaya the moment I walked in. They have a wide variety of food selection to choose from and definitely a place I will go back. This is not the cheapest place, but if you want more variety of Japanese food, Yokushi Robata has good atmosphere, good service, and great food for a reasonable price here in the States.

I like this cozy, Japanese cafe serving up some hot ramen and robata dishes. When first walking in, it feels like you're in Japan with the decor, wooden booths and tables. Sake bottles line up one wall while you get a view of the chef grilling robata skewers against the bar. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and makes great suggestions based on your requests. However, expect to wait a bit on the grilled items if several other tables are ordering them as well. I recommend the robata and ramen here. My favorite are: * spicy tonkatsu ramen * hamachi kama * beef w/wasabi & yuzu skewers * grilled chicken thigh skewers Parking can get crowded here during peak dinner time so be prepared to wait for parking or park in the street behind the shopping strip.

What a wonderful restaurant! The ambiance is perfect and casual. The ramen and rice bowls are delicious and I would order them again. The Robata was okay, a little pricey for only one skewer per order. The service was great and we were taken care of even when the restaurant was packed. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5

I had a great experience at ramen Tatsu-ya. It was my first time here & I was very impressed…read more I ordered the "mi-so-hot" & it was amazing. First - the ramen came out super fast. I was very surprised. And my broth was so delicious. It had such a rich umami flavor due to the miso & I thought the spice level was perfect. Honestly - I could eat jhst that broth for a whole meal. Unlike buldak or some other spicy ramens - the main selling point wasn't the spice. You could get an additional "spice bomb" if you wanted some more heat. The ramen toppings were good but not outstanding - same with the noodles. I thought the "mi-so-hot" was easily 3x better than "the og". The broth in "the og" was pretty interesting and more unique tasting. It felt like the main notes were just umami, pork, and oil. Not bad, but felt like it was missing a little something to make it truly good. If I had just got the OG, I'd rate this place a bit lower - but as it stands I'd 100% come back here for the "mi-so-hot" The interior was pretty nice. It was more "communal style seating" with a couple of big tables. There is also some smaller booths. It's an "order at the counter" type restaurant as well. I saw several comments about parking & was a bit concerned when driving over. I know that part of westheimer is always packed! But there is an attached parking lot & at 3pm on a Sunday, there was plenty of parking! Also - there is some street parking in the neighborhood north of the shop. Overall - will 100% be coming back for some more spicy ramen. Would recommend

The sweet aftertaste was definitely worthwhile. - Shrimp - Not as fresh as I would have liked, as someone who's eaten a lot of shrimp, but I still liked the taste. Still, pretty mediocre. Tantan Tsukemen - Very interesting broth. Potent, salty, and full of bold flavor. My friend swapped the pork for chicken, and the chicken worked really well with the broth. They serve the chicken as a cold cut. This is a double-noodle dish with a soy milk-based dipping sauce. I normally would have ordered this because I LOVE tantan ramen, but I had to forgo it for the limited-time Creamy Truffle Ramen. Creamy Truffle Ramen - LOVED the broth. It was very light and creamy. I actually liked this a lot more than tonkotsu ramen. The truffle wasn't too overwhelming--just mild enough to hint at its flavor without becoming the only flavor profile you get. Truffle is like baking with rose water; finding that balance is quite hard. I will admit the whole table smelled like truffles, though. The torched king oyster mushroom paired wonderfully with the dish, and the broccolini was an equally interesting topping choice. I also found bits of melted Parmesan throughout the ramen, which the menu listed as an ingredient. The egg wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still a decent soy egg. As I kept eating, the truffle oil became more intense, and the fattiness started to get a bit overwhelming without washing it down with water. Great flavor overall, but I think this dish is best paired with an appetizer to help cut through the richness. One of my favorite things about this place, which my BF mentioned, was the noodle texture. I noticed it too as I ate--a good bite with a slick texture that was just starchy enough to cling to the broth. We had leftover noodles from the Tantan Tsukemen at the end of the meal and ended up using the Creamy Truffle broth as a dipping sauce. Honestly, no regrets. The cold noodles didn't work quite as well in this dish, but the broth was definitely a banger. This was also the first ramen broth I couldn't finish but desperately wanted to bring home. (Obviously, I did.) Their to-go containers are surprisingly sleek, too. It's a weird thing to compliment, but I almost wanted to keep the container as much as the broth. Special comment on the utensils here--the soup spoons are ridiculously cute! Would love to have a similar set at home. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was thoughtful. The music wasn't too loud, and it wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night. They do play a lot of popular Japanese songs, so if you're an international music enthusiast, you'll appreciate hearing "Mayonaka no Door" by Miki Matsubara.

Food arrived very quickly, though we ordered no appetizers. The tonkotsu broth was rich and velvety in texture, but more like a mild umami in flavor. The chashu pork was pale, but melt in your mouth buttery and bursting with savory pork goodness! The marinated egg wasn't brought up to temperature with the broth -- a little cooler than room temperature, with a medium oozy yolk. It felt like the marinade penetrated all through to the yolk -- it was great! I welcomed the novel choice to use red onion over the usual scallions. It was a nice touch of color and brought in that bright, juicy onion flavor that I crave. Noodles were perfect texture. Not too hard or mushy. This bowl feels made to focus on the broth and flavor and not so much an instagram post. Delicious!! My only complaint was a very very very slight bitterness in the background. I couldn't pin where it was coming from. Maybe that's a risk of simmering bones for so long. I'll keep this short because I couldn't just eat my moms bowl... The Yuzu shio broth was clearer, with bright, citrusy, and savory body. The bamboo shoots were golden (grilled?) with a little snap to it. Reminds me of a king oyster mushroom. This is really a unique broth and I haven't had anything like it. You should definitely try it! Restaurant: clean, neat, every table literally has its place /orientation. Deep wood furniture, honeyed lighting, and dark window shades give the restaurant a cozy chic ambience despite visiting around noon. Good food, great service. Great prices. Large portions.
