Stayed at La Quinta Inn downtown and Yolk was a short 3 blocks away and an extremely satisfying breakfast. I would recommend to anyone, the menu is huge and there's something for everyone. The Hey Ricky! omelette with chorizo was one of the better omelettes I've ever had. The homemade salsa on the side was slightly hot and sooo good. If you like this type of combination with your eggs, get this! The nut pancakes with strawberries and pecans were incredibly moist, not sure how they could disappoint. read more

The service was great - expected a 10-minute wait and was seated in 2! The menu selection is huge and I wanted to try a few things but decided to go with the West Coast Crepes with red potatoes and pancakes. They were yummy - the sweetness of the crepe blended nicely with the scrambles eggs, mushrooms and avocado. The pancakes were amazing! Such a nice texture! It was so much food! I had the lemon poppy seed/blueberry French toast here, and it was absolutely amazing - not too sweet, very fluffy and a perfect portion size (maybe a little bit on the small size if you're a bigger eater than me?). First time to this restaurant and the entire menu looked incredible. I was already picking what I would order when I come back another time. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing breakfast and I will not be going back. I wanted a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel but didn't see that as an item on the menu so I ordered a la cart. When the food arrived, the bacon was room temperature and one piece was even noticeably cold. I told the server and she brought another plate of bacon without taking away the first plate. The second plate of bacon was also cold. I told the server and she said she could talk to her manager but I'm not sure why a manager needs to be involved in serving hot bacon. I ordered a toasted bagel and when it arrived it wasn't toasted. I asked the server if I could have it toasted and she took the bagel and came back with it toasted. Taking food back into the kitchen that has already been left with customers doesn't seem very sanitary to me. read more

Looking for some breakfast to start the morning and Yelp lead me to Yolk. It's a neat little place to check out when you're in Chicago. The food wasn't as spectacular as the reviews, but it wasn't bad. It just didn't feel special. You get your eggs, hash brown, pancake, etcetera. Portion size was great! We got more food then we bargained for. The taste of the food was to be expected. Service was ok, nothing over the top. If I'm ever back in Chicago, which I will, I'll probably give Yolk another shot. read more

Ate here after running the marathon! Didn't even have to wait! Their staff is very friendly and timely, and they have a huge menu that still manages to be unique. I ordered the smoked salmon, tomato, cream cheese and caper scramble with potatoes and pancakes. Great quality pancakes and extremely good scramble! Potatoes weren't crispy, but I'm a fan of well done food so that's ok. We also ordered a green eggs and ham scramble (pesto ham and cheese)... sooo good and something I've never seen anywhere else! I got the oatmeal with cinnamon apple was pretty good. Not a complaint. I've been trying to expand my horizons in terms of foods lately so I've been getting sort of what would be oddball choices for me lately. It's been a hit or miss experience. Dat croque madame doe! My best friend was visiting Chicago for the first time so I wanted to take her out for breakfast somewhere good that wouldn't have a long wait. Most breakfast places in Chicago are crazy busy every morning and you have to come early or make reservations, but this place was perfect there was no wait. It was close by and quick service. I was pleasantly surprised, Yolk exceeded my expectations. The lattes were delicious. Fortunately for us picky eaters, their menu has something for everyone. They have a really great option to try something sweet like their famous french toasts or waffles, but only a piece of it for $5! This was incredible because I did not want too much of something too sweet and I didn't want to pay for a full plate I wouldn't be able to finish, but I still wanted to try it. We ended up splitting a 5 egg omelette which came with potatoes and toast and getting a piece of the Red Velvet French Toast. Had a great time here and I loved everything that we ordered. I came here on a layover to the airport. Decent food, but it was a lil bit overcooked, and the advocado wasn't mixed throughout (I got el torero). By far the worst of all the Yolks I've been to. It took 10 mins before anyone came to my table. I ordered the Kale Scramble with a side of pancakes. Nothing like starting the day with a bite of raw onions! I don't think the line cook with sautéing any of the vegetables before adding the eggs. The pancakes were gummy and dry. They arrived 10 minutes after I received my scramble AND I had to remind my waitress what my side order was. I do not think I've ever seen a manager dressed so casually. I saw a gentleman sitting customers and delivering food with a jacket on. This might explain the casual appearance of the host staff as well. I don't think I'll be coming back to this location. I loved the food so much, I went twice during my 4 day solo trip to Chicago. I ordered the Cinnamon Roll French toast TWICE! I love cinnamon rolls so naturally I loved this dish. It's literally a cinnamon roll smashed flat not just a slice of bread with extra cinnamon. Along with the French toast, I ordered the breakfast potatoes, a side of sausage gravy + a biscuit, and scrambled eggs, between the 2 visits. I sat at the bar both times, service was quick, food was hot, staff was friendly and welcoming, prices were affordable. If I could bring this spot with me to every city that I visit, I would be happy lol. If you're looking for a quick bite and you're alone, stop here. The bar seats open quickly. If you have a group of 2 or more, you'll probably experience a wait. I went on a weekday both times and it was super packed with a line out the door. We found Yolk to be an excellent spot for breakfast, but probably not the "Best breakfast in Chicago." That distinction, to me, goes clearly to Little Goat in West Loop. The crunchy berry oatmeal was excellent, but not "amazing," as I would describe the oatmeal at Little Goat. The banana blueberry pancakes were excellent and the service (Anastasiia) was very attentive. The menu has a lot of options, particularly with eggs, omelettes, and French toast. Yolk is a good spot to go to if you want a traditional breakfast. I am not sure what people find so special about Yolk, particularly with so many good brunch spots over on Randolph Street. This location gets crowded and loud. I usually order take out when I order from here, and they do a good job of including any possible utensil and condiment you might need. I generally get the scramblers, which are good, but nothing out of this world. I was here with a larger group once and our waitress was very good about splitting the check and keeping our coffees refilled. But, I rarely eat here due to the loud and crowded environment. I recommend take out and then eating outside somewhere. read more

The grits were like a soup. I mean the most watery grits I've ever had. And I've had my fair share a great and terrible grits. The eggs Benedict were super whatever. Not the worst tasting but just sad looking and had I seen them prior to ordering, I definitely wouldn't have ordered them. My fiancé got a regular egg breakfast. haven't eaten IN Yolk yet but I was first introduced to it by one of my co-workers ordering an omelette and having to share half of it with me with how HUGE the portion sizes are (if you are a hungry breakfast goer you'll love their food!) More than filling it caught my interest and I've been back for both an omelette (to pay my co-worker back) as well as their fruit filled oatmeal which is divine! (I've had that about 3 times now.) I have been ordering to go from this restaurant for years and I visit the restaurant one to two times per month on top. Until this past summer, I have had nothing but great things to say. recently when I have been ordering food to go I noticed a tip has been added to my bill (even for a simple glass of strawberry/OJ). I never used to hold onto my receipts but now I feel the need to. Then, two weeks ago my boyfriend and I ordered food from there and got sick almost immediately after getting home. We both thought it was something he must've eaten the day before but then it happened again today. For me being 6 months pregnant, getting food poisoning to be deathly to my baby. Was there this post Sunday to celebrate at 21st birthday. The staff was extremely friendly and was very accommodating. I had asked them to put candles on my friends pancakes and they gladly did so and lit them at the table for us. I was extremely happy with their quick seating. We first went to the Yolk at Marina City but was told the wait was close to 2 hrs. She suggested we try this location, I don't think we waited 20 minutes. I also loved they ask for your cell phone number so they can text you when your table is ready. Very good food. I had the croc madame and my wife had a frittata, I forget which. Were both done as requested. Coffee was good and strong. We tried the orange strawberry juice as well. Savannah our waitress did a great job as well as was very kind and personable. Our only hiccup was a dirty coffee mug. Savanna quickly replaced when we brought it to her attention. I've had brunch here a couple of times and it's always been pretty good quality. Food has always been served warm, servers have always been nice, the wait is never too long at this location. I like that Yolk in general has yummy vegetarian options (caprese benedict, california omelet...etc) and delicious french toast (although probably way too sweet for breakfast). Yolk is a chain so I wouldn't expect this place to be super, super amazing every time or at every branch, but it's really the right place to go if you're craving your brunch & if you're not on a food adventure. read more

Love the food here but the service is awful. Every time I come it's something which is what prompted me to finally write a review. We came in with a group of 7 and they said the wait was 30min which was fine with us. They then said they could sit us next to each other. When they sat us they gave us two different servers even though we were together. We asked to push the tables together and they said "the tables physically don't move" they do move. 5 minutes after we sat 4 tables opened which could have been pushed together for us. We ordered a cinnamon roll which came out cold. When asking the server to heat it up she responded "it feels heated" we then had to ask her to heat it up. Our other server was good. The host staff on Sunday morning really needs to be retrained they had no idea what they were doing/were rude and ruin the atmosphere at such a good place. read more
