What a wonderful hidden gem in California's Delta! Yong's has the kind of authentic, welcoming atmosphere that makes a place feel less like a business and more like part of the fabric of its community.
Located in Holt, in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, Yong's is surrounded by the beautiful waterways that make this region such a destination for boating, fishing, watercraft, and outdoor recreation. Its location also makes it a surprisingly convenient stopping point when traveling between Sacramento and the Bay Area.
I originally came here this past weekend after Yong's was recommended by one of my son's friend's parents as a great place to meet up and have some food. It turned out to be perfect for my drive home from Sacramento, saving me about 25 minutes on my way back toward the Bay Area while giving me an opportunity to enjoy a completely different side of the Delta.
What made the experience even more special was the community connection. Yong's is operated by five owners, and I had actually first met some of the owners back in January through this wonderful Delta community. They are genuinely kind, hardworking small-business owners, and there is a real sense of hospitality here, along with a shared appreciation for the waterways, watercraft, community, and American patriotic traditions that are such a visible part of Delta life.
I don't drink alcohol, so I especially appreciate that Yong's offers much more than a traditional tavern experience. They have an excellent food menu, including delicious Korean-style beef short ribs and fries, along with plenty of other options. There's a pool table, and in my experience it was also comfortable for families, with spaces away from the main bar where kids can enjoy food and a soda, as well as outdoor areas.
I also loved discovering the artwork and symbolism on the walls, including 福 (fú), a Chinese character traditionally associated with good fortune, blessings, happiness, and prosperity. It seems especially fitting for a gathering place with so much local history and personality.
I'm writing this review because Yong's is simply a really fun, cool place that more people should discover. After a day enjoying the Delta waterways, boating, fishing, or simply exploring this beautiful and often-overlooked part of Northern California, it's a great place to wind down, grab some good food, play a game of pool, and enjoy genuine Delta hospitality.
Yong's has something increasingly rare: character. Great food, wonderful people, hardworking local ownership, and an atmosphere that feels unmistakably connected to the community around it. Definitely worth a stop! read more
