In my impatience I burned both tongue and digits... but it smelled so good, I did it anyway. Came in for the fish, but really enjoyed the scallops that were in my Tuesday Special. The fish here is perfect! I prefer the Pollock over Cod, and the fillet was excellent. Big fat fries were cooked really well, and I will be back to try other menu selections for sure. read more

Well I was in the mood for some hot fish and chips. Family fish market on 10th street and J the fish there is good but it's always crowded and you can't get through on the phone and also the closed to early. The other fish place use to be H salt fish and chips it's in the parking lot behind US Bank it's inside the donuts place. That fish is heavy with grease. Ehh it was good but not the best ever. The breading had good flavor and so did the hush puppies. However, The fish was rubbery and the stuffed shrimp and hush puppies were definitely high brown. We paid $26 for a daily special (one piece fish, fries, coleslaw and sm drink) one order hush puppies and one order stuffed shrimp. Personally, if I'm paying almost 30 without tip I prefer better quality. It's also a very small space for ordering and they have everyone waiting inside. We called ahead and ordered to-go trying to avoid the contact. It didn't matter. we still had to stand in line inside. It was three people deep and we waited at least 10 min just to pay and pick up our food that was sitting on the counter. I may try it again but probably not for a while. read more

I called my order in for pickup & given 10 min wait time, I was in the parking lot when I called so after a few minutes I went in and paid. Place was empty but for 1 lady waiting. Must have been waiting awhile since no one came or went since I was in parking lot. There was fish and fries under the lamp when I walked up to counter and thought 'fast 10minutes'. Once I paid and was handed my drink, I noticed the fish was gone but nothing bagged. After several minutes and a finished drink, fish was back and a darker brown. Instead of bagging up the fish and fries sitting there since I walked in, Guy behind counter, spent 6 minutes talking to young female customer trying to figure out what she wanted. After young female customer ordered, guy Finally started bagging. Lady that was waiting started to reach for bag & was surprised when I was handed my order. Pulled a FF out after starting the car, COLD! Got home and pulled out the fish. Fish is hard, greasy on the outside, tough dry, stringy on the inside. REFRIED! A friend of mine recommended this place for lunch and I ordered the Captain's Plate. It was surprisingly fresh and delicious. The fish that they serve is Pollack, which is pretty common for fish and chips, although some restaurants use codd. I also had a cup of the clam chowder soup and it was quite good. I just had clam chowder at s popular chain restaurant, who shall go nameless, the day before and I can't tell you how bland it was. This was an enjoyable lunchtime treat. I ordered the "two-piece" which cost $12. When it comes out, you don't get "2" pieces but about 8 strips of fish that are as thick as a carrot and about the length of an average hand. Served over a bed of unsalted fries it was a filling meal. The best part of the meal was the batter. It adhered to the fish very well and did not separate on each bite. The crunch is perfect and it comes out piping hot. However, for me the meat of the fish is a little dry; I like my fish a little more moist. The tasty tarter sauce complements the fish and adds a nice flavor. It sucks that they charge extra for the tarter sauce. read more

I haven't been there since before the pandemic and it was always the best. I went today for fish/chips and tempura shrimp. I was terribly disappointed. I wondered if the business changed hands. The fish was mealy inside and not crisp like it used to be. I thought maybe they changed from the original oils. The tempura shrimp were tasleless. The chips were mealy inside and a little underdone. I don't think further cooking would have helped. There was something wrong this time with everything. I'm not sure I can go back and risk another bad meal for $24,00 plus tip. Other posters issues- They have a bathroom for customers - you just can't walk in -use their bathroom and walk out which is the policy for most restaurants. Tartar sauce isn't refrigerated but it's on ice and they swap it out as it melts - all within the health code Fries were slightly soggy and I like them with a little crunch so I'd order them well done next time. I love old fashioned fish and chips. This is the place to go for them in the Antelope Valley since it opened in the 1970. This restaurant's food is made to order. The menu is simple kind of like In-n-Out where they focus on their core menu and don't chase after the trends. FYI: Some reviews complain about the price. If you want cheap mass produced food there is Long John Silver, inside of the KFC, next to Target down the street. As for myself, if I'm going to take the caloric hit for fish and chips you'll find me at York Shore House. FYI: For those with peanut allergies York Shore House fries it's fish in a mix of peanut and canola oil. Final FYI: One review complained about not enough sauce. I ordered the Captain's Platter, minus the fries this go-around. The Captain wasn't in the mood for potatoes, I suppose. Anyway, the fish wasn't Cod, which I prefer, but it was a large piece of fish (Pollock?) with good batter and perfectly fried. The shrimp were good, butterflied to make them appear larger than they are, which is okay by me as long as they are cooked properly, which these were. The scallops were just dinky. I could have eaten all three of them in one bite, and the oysters were not much bigger. See accompanying photo to see the sum total of a Captain's Platter minus fries. The guy working the fryer really knows his business. The fish was perfectly cooked, superbly drained of oil prior to plating, and had a pleasant crispness that can be hard to find in battered (as opposed to dredged) foods. All-in-all the flavors were good, tartar sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking, but they know how to cook battered fish pretty well. They have Guinness Extra (not draft, Extra Stout, in bottles) which is a plus. Guinness Extra is a great dinner companion for all types of food, but it goes really well with meat and fish. The restaurant was clean, if perhaps a bit too brightly lit for a fish joint, and the people friendly and attentive. Prices were rather high for the size portions received, in my view. Certainly not the best, nor generous, fish platter I have had, but I will definitely return when I am in the mood for fried fish. read more

The price is that of a 4 star restaurant but the quality screams 2 star fast food joint. Long John Silvers taste better to me but there are none in Lancaster. California Fish Grill, in Lancaster, will give you far better quality food, great tasting and at a similar price. I was very disappointed at what I got. Ordered the captain's platter and it was more like the seaman's platter. Cole slaw was flavorless and dry. Three scallops, 2 oysters and 1 fish were blah, with a side of fries that did not even fill the fry container but 3/4th's full. The best thing about this meal was the shrimp cocktail sauce.
