We are members of the Met Cinema. If you live within 30minutes I highly suggest you also become members. The theatre is an older movie house but shows all the new releases and often will bring back an oldie. They try to keep at least one kid movie playing each week. Most of the time you can find a cartoon (G movie) great for all ages, a PG rated movie still great for the family, and an R rated movie that you don't have to bring your kids too. We just went two nights ago to watch Independence Day. The popcorn was fresh. They allow you to purchase popcorn buckets made from thick plastic along with large plastic cups that you can bring back each trip and get a discounted rate on popcorn and drinks. We now own serveral buckets and several cups. We always order light ice because the drinks coming from the fountain are always very cool to start with - even in the hot summer months light ice is all we need. During our last trip I brought two buckets but really only needed one and planned to split. The staff will allow you to give them both buckets and they will fill each half way and add butter if you like - but, still charge you for one bucket. Yes, that makes sense but some places would never allow this. Being a member we pay a small monthly price and can see as many movies as we like all month long. It is perfect. read more

Ok first if you need all the high tech stuff to enjoy a movie with stadium seating this isn't the place. But if you want to come to nice, small quite theater then this is it. Not to many people, seats are like theaters I went to when I was a kid. Chairs are old and difficult to sit in for 2 hours. Walls are thin and you can often hear the movie in the adjacent theater. You cannot purchase just one ticket for one movie. The Met Cinemas offer a monthly subscription for $19.95 which does not work well for someone like me who does not go to the movies regularly. They do offer a day pass for $16, which is well worth it if you want to take in more than one movie in a day. read more

It seems like forever since they've had an animated film...even though other theatres in fresno have them. Also, it seems like all the movies I want to see come out weeks later in Oakhurst...Like "9", "Julie & Julia", and they have yet to bring up "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs" just to name a couple. It's frustrating to have to drive to fresno to see the movies that we want to see. And, to top it off, they only have three movies playing right now because they claim that there are "no good ones" out there...I miss the old owners. read more

We have lived in the Oakhurst area for over six years now and would occasionally go to the MET. When the theater closed we were somewhat shocked, as we would have to travel into Fresno to see a movie. We understand the economics of running a business in todays world and we were excited to hear about the re-openig when they announced the membership plan. We chose not to participate as we rarely go to a movie. We had assumed that you could still buy a "walkup" ticket. Yes you can, however prepare yourself for paying for a day pass ($16) for the first person and $7 for each tag-a-long. What the MET has done, is exclude a portion of their communities audience. I presume that they have factored in this loss of revenue when they went with the "membership" plans. We chose to travel into Fresno and see the movie for $5.50 each. We plan the day to do our errands at the same time. Review edit: Since I wrote this review in 2013 we have enjoyed being a member of the MET. It was a great idea (membership) that saved this theatre for the enjoyment of the community. Many improvements have been added since we subscribed. The old theatre's seats were uncomfortable at best. Decided to do the monthly subscription and take in an occasional movie with a visit to the mountains to relax this summer. Have seen Deadpool 2, Hereditary, and Adrift...plus I get to support a small town theater. And they have fun souvenir cups and popcorn buckets and delicious icees. I was really shocked to see negative reviews of our wonderful theater!! I love it and have a family membership. Honestly I can't believe people are complaining about the day pass~ have you been to a theater anywhere but Oakhurst lately??? it costs a fortune!!! The theater is clean, the snacks affordable compared with other theaters and it is good!! The staff does a good job, yes sometimes they are very busy and just trying to serve people quickly to get them into the theater in time~ Don't think you can blame them for that!! There is absolutely no quality control. The popcorn is chewy, there are no managers. If you have an issue you just suck it up, no one can do anything for you. There was a person being so loud through the whole movie and I let the staff know and they said they couldn't do anything about it unless they saw it with their own eyes. They did nothing. It's unfortunate that it's the only movie theatre in town. The staff is mostly friendly, but some look like they are unhappy to be there. read more

I'm happy the met managed to stay open. It's nice having a theater closer. I guess it's necessary to charge seniors 11 dollars for tickets and 14 dollars for popcorn and a coke to stay open, but it would be nice if the kids running the place could take some lessons on customer service with a smile. Folks were pretty polite about being quiet while the film was running, even if the theater was packed with teen girls out on Winter Break. Cheap eats, too! Great member-based movie theater. If you are not a local and do not wish to become a member, (which is still the way to go if you are going to the theater more than once in a month) don't be afraid to buy the day pass and then "guest" your companions. The price turns out better than the big theaters. Snacks are yummy and reasonable, staff is friendly, theater is clean and comfortable, and the owners are receptive and innovative. Please don't ever switch to the large size super recliners! They're so uncomfortable, I quit going to the Clovis theatre, they're the only seating offered. Your seating (both old and newer) are comfortable for average size people! I truly enjoy your theatre and location in the community. read more

Would absolutely love to give this theater 5 stars but it is way too expensive. $14.25 for 3 sodas. The theaters aren't well sound proof! We can hear explosions from the movie playing in the next room as I type this! We frequent this theater twice or maybe three times a year so not enough to get the movie pass. I hate to bag on a small town movie theater but really, its poorly ran and I've had too many problems here over the years. I don't know if its for the old folks that go to see a movie but the volume is either really low, annoyingly loud, or messed up. There are always scratches on the screen and it's just not the best quality. It's kind of dirty and smells odd. The theaters in the Met 1 are REALLY small. It makes me feel like I'm in a banquet room or something (ceiling fan?). Met 2 is a lot better. There shouldn't be such a huge difference but there is. I think all of the newer movies are shown in the Met 2 (bigger theaters, wider space but there are only two theaters.) and all the ones that have been there for a while are in the Met 1 (more, but smaller theaters, crammed space). I heave a sigh of relief when the movie I'm seeing is in the Met 2. It's just a way more enjoyable experience so try to see a movie around the time it comes out... The staff has gotten better but for a while they seemed to be really rude. A blonde girl always acted like she hated her job and did not want to be there. As of late, I think there are new people, everyone's been a lot more accomodating. read more

We will never go here again. The person from whom we bought tickets, while not rude, certainly was not gracious at all. And . . it was VERY hot inside the theater where we were seeing our movie - other patrons commented on that also. It was evident that the ceiling fans were not on; I have no idea if a blower to a central unit was on or not - it certainly did not feel it at all. The lobby temp seemed OK, but . . that isn't where we spent our time. Also, the little emergency lites on the floor by the carpet edges were not on - they are for safety when lights are out! read more

Great smaller theater with good variety of movies for young and old! August 13-Now a membership type movie with $19.95 per month for single...Bought this and went with my granddaughter once and my husband a couple of times...$5.50 for the extra person...each visit...The monthly subscription helps them keep the place running...Movies are fading but we hope this place will keep on going...Love the staff and always friendly and attentive to us....Thanks for a nice, clean and nicely renovated place to watch the new stuff....instead of driving to Fresno...Pam read more

I came to this theater three years ago and had a bad experience. The seats were hard, uncomfortable and didn't recline the auditoriums were filthy and the screens were ridiculously small. A friend and I decided to go to Bass Lake for the day but we also wanted to see Rocketman the new Elton John movie. It was opening day and I had considered going to Fresno to see the movie, but I had heard this place had made some upgrades and it was close and they were playing the movie we wanted to see so I wanted to be fair and give it another try. When we walked in the lobby was clean and the staff was very friendly always a plus. I complained about their pricing and membership policy in my last review but I have since changed my mind on that. I am not from Oakhurst so I chose to get the day pass for $16 and then a guest ticket with that pass was an additional $5.50. So it was $21.50 for two tickets. I realize that is an expensive price for a matinee, but if you go to any other theater for an evening show as I do often it actually is a cheaper price for two people for a nighttime show, so the pricing was actually a bit of a savings now that I thought about it which was a huge plus. I had heard this theater had gotten luxury recliners with foot-rests another reason for me to give it another chance, when we got to the auditorium they only had few of those that were right next to the screen so the view wasn't the best so we decided not to sit there and try the other seats. While I prefer those aforementioned luxury recliners I am not too picky about seating as long as the padding is comfortable and it has a head-rest and reclines a little. Well the other seats at this theater have since been upgraded and while maybe not as nice as the ones right next to the screen they were perfectly comfortable and satisfying enough. They really have stepped it up and have much better, comfortable seats now so that is a huge plus. At first when there is nothing on the screen before the start of the movie it looks smaller than other movie theaters but once the movie gets going it seems perfectly fine and satisfying. Picture and sound quality were both excellent. Bathrooms and auditoriums were very clean as well. If I could offer one suggestion: it was a little hot in the auditorium where we watched the movie. A little extra AC would have been nice, but it wasn't unbearably hot thankfully and considering all the improvements this theater has made since last visit this is a very, very minor complaint. Otherwise our visit was very, very nice and let's just say I am happy I didn't let one previous unsatisfying experience prevent me from giving this place another chance. It was a nice, convenient little getaway to the movies and if I wanted to catch another flick when visiting the area I would definitely come back. This theater is now really awesome. I have been to the Met quite a few times when visiting my parents in Coarsegold. They are really cheap as far as matinées, about $6.25 for a matinée, and they rarely have more than 10 people at a movie, unless it is a F, S, Su show. It doesn't have state of the art sound or stadium seating, but it has a ton of cool memorabilia and photos in the lobby. They usually have the latest releases playing. You only get one preview at the start of the movie, which is a bummer if you love previews like I do. They have 6 screens, four at the Met 1 and two at the Met 2, basically two sides to the building. Not a bad place to stop and see a movie in the area for a good price. read more

I like this theater. Always clean and friendly with a small town feel. First run movies, snack bar is better before movie starts. This time I hit the snack bar 3/4 into the movie and they were breaking it down and cleaning up. She was soaking the fountain nozzles and had to fish one out of the bucket to give me a drink. This is our local movie theater in a small mountain community. Thanks to Matt Sconce and his partners, the theater was saved several years ago by making it a membership theater. What a genius idea! We are able to see all the movies we want in our town without having to drive for an hour to Fresno and it is one of the most popular places in Oakhurst. I was hesitant to go to this theater due to some of the reviews here, but I went anyways. I was very impressed, it is a private theatre so I was worried about higher costs but after going I found I had to pay $16 dollars for a day pass and $5.50 ( matinee price)for each other member I brought with me, which was 5 kids. This was a acceptable price to see a new release, RIO 2. The cost of popcorn and sodas was less than that of other theaters as well. The theatre is old but it was clean and the bathrooms were spotless, made me happy due to the amount of little kids I brought. Customer service was great and all faces had a smile and were willing to help. A great experience and I will travel there versus Fresno for most of my movie going. read more

Against all odds the Met Cinema reopened in February with a full menu of first run movies. The innovation has been to sell monthly memberships...$30 for all the movies a couple wants to see, $20 for singles.
