08/13/2026 I wanted to give an update on one of my favorite and only yoshinoya restaurant in Chula Vista .I Came in a day before and ordered the 2 plates for $16.99 This restaurant is 15 min away from my house and I just wanted to let you know that I'm from SanDiego and I worked for yoshinoya in the 90s the one located on convoy and balboa it was sad for me when they closed as a former shift leader we would always greet our customers with WELCOME TO YOSHINOYA. I guess times have changed .I feel that customer service is key and that is what is lacking in this place. I love this place and it's the only one in SanDiego and I would love to have it around for many more years to come .I just wanted to point that out because I know how corporate take these reviews very seriously and I know that corporate is in LA . I stopped by Yoshinoya late one night for dinner. I have nostalgic memories of eating their tasty beef and teriyaki chicken bowls with red pepper and pickled ginger as a teen. Prices have gone up. $16 with tax for an XL combo of gyudon beef and teriyaki chicken with veggies and white rice. The portion was fair and flavor was what I remembered. I visited Yoshinoya Japanese Kitchen in Chula Vista, CA on Friday, 1/24/25, around 12:30 PM. I decided to order the Combo XL Bowl with Teriyaki Ribeye Steak, Grilled Teriyaki Chicken, White Rice & Steamed Vegetables. The flavor of the meats was underwhelming. I had to add a bunch of teriyaki sauce and soy sauce to enhance the taste. The steamed vegetables and rice were good and straightforward. I also got the Clam Chowder, which was decent. The service was a tad slow, but at least friendly. The price point of the food was doable. Overall, Yoshinoya's food was tolerable enough to eat. This time, since I was in Chula Vista and away from my usual spots, I decided to dine in at this location. The food came out as expected not bad, but nothing extraordinary either. The flavors were okay for my taste, and thankfully, I didn't experience the bad food complaints I've seen in other reviews. However, it still didn't hit the same way it used to when I first tried Yoshinoya in Glendale, CA. There's something about that first experience that sets the bar high. I usually get a combo of teriyaki chicken, classic beef, a delicious flan, and a soda. The meal was satisfying, but the lack of ambiance made me realize that next time, I'll just take it to-go and eat somewhere with a better view. I visited this location recently with my family. We ordered two regular drinks and one large drink, and we were given small water cups for our kids. To make things easier, we poured some of the drinks we purchased into the smaller cups for them. One of the workers suddenly shouted at us, saying, "Excuse me, sir, those cups are for water, not soda," in a very rude and accusatory tone--without even checking to see that we had paid for the drinks. It was embarrassing, especially in front of other customers, and completely unnecessary. We weren't doing anything wrong, just trying to make things easier for our kids. Even if there was a concern, it could've been handled with basic courtesy and a simple question. Really disappointed in the customer service. I love the food here. BUT today I was really disappointed to be told I could not get beef juice on the side for my 2 XL combos of original beef. When typically they always give me the juices without any push back. The manager was adamant he only gives one beef juice per order. I was even willing to pay for the extra juice. I asked him for more and he said I will make an exception and only give you one more... I am a manager for large teams and if a customer is willing to pay for what they want you make it happen... really disappointed. He even said he was going to talk to the team and remind them it's only one small juice per order.... Really put a damper on my experience and will make me second guess coming back to this location. Now I get home and my order is wrong they gave me teriyaki chicken when all I wanted was original beef I just checked the app and I can order as MANY beef juices as I want at no charge. read more

I experienced severe food poisoning after dining at this location on 02/21/2026 around 8:00 PM. I woke up at approximately 3:00 AM on 02/22/2026 with intense nausea and diarrhea. The illness lasted four days and took a significant toll on my health.I called the restaurant the next morning to inform them of what happened. I was told the manager was not present and would return on Monday, and that I would receive a call back. Today is Thursday, and I still have not heard from anyone.I am a middle-aged adult, and this experience left me extremely weak for several days. I can only imagine how serious this could have been for an elderly person or someone with a compromised immune system.I am sharing this review in the interest of public health and safety. As soon As I got my food, filled my sodas and left. As soon as I got home, my sodas ran out of gas very quickly. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was no line at all! I've always seen this place and decided to finally try it. I googled the menu before going through drive thru as you are building a plate or bowl. It was easy once I saw all the options and we quickly ordered and it wasn't a long wait at the window. We come here about once a month. I like that they are trying new items on the menu and that you can customize your plates with various options. We like the fried rice instead of the white rice. Normally get the 2 combo tray. This lasts two meals so when you break down the prices it's really reasonable. The BBQ beef and regular teriyaki chicken are the go to items for us. Drive thru is very small so just a few cars can back it up. Not a huge deal as I like to go off hours. I love the ginger packets. We use them when cooking our meals as well lol. With the 2 Combo special with coupon its like $14. Employees are always nice and never had an issue with a wrong item here. We'll be back. read more
