    I've had the opportunity to experience the highest tier and the lowest tier of services that this gym has to offer. So I feel I can truly assess this establishment. I started out with a lime card which is a membership to all their gyms at $30 a month had little motivation but went in from time to time. It's not the cleanest gym, LA fitness is better for machines and for cleanliness, but that's not why I'm writing this review. At the beginning of January I went in and requested personal training services. I was greeted by the athletic director Alex who sold me on a program that met 4 times a week and charged $600/month. I'm paying a premium price because I'm really motivated to try and get fit lose some weight and stay healthy to see if I could survive past 60. First two weeks are great Alex is my personal trainer we're developing a rapport and I entrust him with my health and my body because I am now motivated to be here because he had motivated me He has sold me on the idea (diet/exercise). A no point in time during his pitching strategy or up to the third week that we worked out together was there any inclination or notification that he would be relieving himself of his duties to replace me with much more inferior replacement. I got notified by text message from a stranger that they will now be my trainer and no notification from Alex who I trained with the day before and for previous weeks. The person he was trading me to "shadowed" us for one exercise and during the exercise I asked Alex if he was "shipping me off" to this guy, to which he replied ,"no". Before and I delve into my qualms about honesty and developing a relationship with someone that you do business with especially a personal trainer who is supposed to motivate and you as a client and are supposed to trust, I would like to talk about the price. $600 a month get you four sessions a week for half an hour. There are private gyms in Miami that have personal training and don't cost nearly as much as this. I came to the gym for convenience with the drive and because I was already a member. A corporation cannot have personal touch like a small business can, and a personal trainer can be considered a small business if they work for themselves but unfortunately these individuals work for a company and can treat you like second rate customers because at the end of the day it doesn't affect their pocket compared to the companies. There are much cheaper better options available. Motivation. I had it to get up and walk in I was motivated enough to even pay more than a premium compared to other gyms, and motivated to continue to pay this for years if it changed my life. I was motivated to diet and even motivated to continue to work out, the person that developed this other than myself is my personal trainer. He sold me the idea that together we can make me healthy. From day one I was always honest about how I felt about my health and how important it was to me, but my trainer couldn't be honest with me and tell me that he wasn't going to be my trainer. It may seem petty to some but you need to understand that you're motivated by your trainer because you want to look like your trainer one day because your trainer is in good shape. Your trainer projects a lifestyle that maybe you'd want to be a part of and I bought into that. To receive a text message that I had been transferred to another trainer by the new recruit and not by my trainer himself who I saw the day before was a slap in the face for trust. It really was an unprofessional folly and something that I hope this individual learns from because, Alex is a great trainer, but this let me down and I don't want to give anymore money to this corporate structure that allows personal trainers to not be personal. Honesty is important because I as a fat and unhealthy individual came and honestly said "I need help". I lost that trust and that's why I will be going elsewhere.

    Current state of the gym after being closed for renovations for more than 24 hours. This is ridiculous.

Jose and Heidy are also amazing at this. These 3 trainers are truly exceptional in what they do for us. They also give feedback and pay attention to everyone in the class, giving alternative workouts if one cant do something due to surgery or inability to do the workout thats on the screen. I must say these 3 trainers are my top favorite. Lastly, one thing i want to point out is, Jose; how he stands at the entrance before a class is starting and he greets everyone with a fist pump before and after the class. This truly helps you connect with the trainer on a personal level and it eases the anxiety of the intensity we go through and the difficulties to even mentally make it there to workout. Its very comforting and very sweet. A big huge thank you to these 3 trainers for making this experience so much more enjoyable.

I didn't have an issue canceling and I actually rejoined. I really love the classes and the trainers. The staff is welcoming and helpful. I felt a little intimidated at first but not anymore. Would definitely recommend.

    I never thought I would leave a negative review, but this experience definitely deserves one…read more I signed up about a month and a half ago and had no issues until this past week. During a typical workout, I was exercising alone at what turned out to be a double station. When I finished, I realized it was a shared setup. I assumed the next person would simply use the other side so I could complete my final exercise. Instead, a woman approached me in a very aggressive tone and demanded that I move so she could use the station I was on. I calmly explained that I only needed one more exercise and then the machine would be all hers. She refused and began calling me names, repeatedly saying, "You're always a bitch," while calling the trainer, Karen, over for backup. I stayed where I was because I had done nothing wrong. The woman eventually moved to the other station, but she aggressively pushed the machine in anger. I then explained to Karen that this behavior was completely out of line and that there was no reason for me to be disrespected or spoken to in such a hostile way. Unfortunately, Karen minimized the situation, saying it wasn't a big deal and that she didn't want this happening in her class. She suggested we just move on. I felt the situation was being brushed aside, possibly because she has known the other two women longer than she has known me. During my conversation with Karen, the other woman's workout partner, Tania, approached and began insulting me. I told her I was not speaking to her, and she responded, "You don't know me, you need to be careful." I perceived that as a threat. At that point, I informed Karen that I would be filing a police report. Again, she minimized the situation and told me not to do it onsite, adding, "I'm not your parent, I can't tell you what to do." When someone makes statements like that during an argument, it should not be taken lightly. As staff, Karen should have handled the situation professionally instead of dismissing it. The police came, and I filed a report. One of the women later told Karen she felt sorry for ruining her pre-Valentine's Day. Perhaps next time she should manage her anger better. The other woman stated she was a paralegal and "knows the law" as I was leaving, which felt unnecessary and intimidating. After speaking with a few friends who previously attended this gym, I felt leaving this review was important so management can improve how situations like this are handled. Later that afternoon, Karen called to inform me that my membership was being terminated because things "got out of line." I do wonder whether the other two members' accounts were also terminated. I proceed to explain this lady insulted me and called me "bitch" which Karen said is not a big deal when someone calls you that you move on. I am sorry what? I left a message for the manager, Payton, whom I met when I signed up, but I have not received a response yet but I was able to speak to wife about the situation briefly and she assure me he will get back to me. Again still no response from Payton. Based on this experience, this gym will not be getting my money again, and unfortunately, this is the review they earned.

This place has not only changed our routine, but also gives us the motivation to keep coming back. The staff/coaches are great! We really feel right at home every time we come in, and they know how to push us to get our full potential. This has become a lifestyle!! Thank you to David, Nick, Karen and Jay!     Florida International University's Recreation Center has to be one of the top 5 gyms I've ever step…read morefoot into. Massive in sheer size, this building is compromised of three floors of space and equipment that will surely satisfy your workout needs. Starting with the first floor, there are endless squat racks, benches, free weights, and machines for those specifically looking to target a certain muscle group to build muscle. Walking up the stairs (because if you are using the elevator then what was the point of going to the gym), the second floor is what every cardio lover imagines paradise to be. With 4 - 6 Stair Masters, row machines, ellipticals, bikes, treadmills, etc. one can't possibly leave this floor without breaking a sweat. Lastly, the third and final floor is a track. One can run or jog around the base of the gym without having to deal with the many risks associated with running outside. Along with the track there is a small area where those seeking to shape their abdominal muscles can do so using the equipment provided. All in all the gym is great but there are a few things to consider prior to signing up. The first are the hours, it's very hard to find the accurate hours for the facility as their website doesn't reflect any last minute changes made to their times. Moreover, the hours are shorten when class isn't in session from 12am to 9pm, so if you're getting out of work you'll approximately have an hour or so to work out after factoring out the time stuck in traffic. Still that hour or so could be even less if the gym is packed or people are just not efficiently making use of their time resulting in you wasting yours. The second the fact is that FIU has over 55,000 students enrolled, which all have gym membership included in their tuition fees. Thus, good luck working out when class is in session especially during the fall terms. Overall, it's a decent gym, just have a flexible schedule to avoid peak times to really make use of all their equipment and more importantly get a good workout in.
