DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! My 5-year-old daughter needs a filling and tooth extraction. Dr. Polite says she needs to put under general anesthesia. The scheduler calls with the appointment... 2 months is their next available because they only go to the facility 3 times a month. My daughter is crying everyday with tooth pain. Take her back a week later begging for them to do something, even if it's only temporary until her surgery. "Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do except put her on a wait list" and gives her a prescription for an antibiotic. On top of that, we have to pay over $3,000 upfront 48 hours before her surgery. No payment plan, no nothing. These are money-hungry doctors that don't give a **** about your child!! read more

Step into outer space when you enter the Waxhaw location of Young and Polite. It's not 8:00am but you would never know by the energy level of staff. Everyone is super friendly and seem excited to be here to work with you. You're greeted warmly and checked in quickly here. The entertainment area for the kiddos is perfect. If your little one is anxious about a trip to the dentist, they're sure to forget while playing all of the games in their special waiting area. Free wifi and coffee are welcome treats for waiting parents. Before taking my child back, the hygienist explained my benefits and asked if I wanted something done that wasn't covered. So no surprises when we check out of I get the explanation of benefits! Thanks! The exam/procedure room is designed with your child in mind. Your child is in a horizontal position with a tv monitor overhead to distract them. Hygienists and dentists alike take their time explaining to both parents and the child what is going on during the cleaning/procedure. Children are rewarded at the end with special treats. Points are maintained on a card so the child feels like they have a "debit card" of sorts. When your child looks forward to going to the dentist, you know you've hit the jackpot! read more

Would love to give a ZERO! The staff is horrible and insensitive. We will never go back and recommend NEVER taking your kids here. Sixty days ago went to a dentist and had a plan put in place but due to insurance we opted to go to Young and Polite. They want EIGHT times the amount of other dentists..... EIGHT TIMES! They are fear mongers that try to intimidate you into unnecessary dental work. Dentist was RUDE. We saw her two days prior and she literally said that it wasn't her. This office is great when you have little ones who are scared of the dentist. Finding a good dental team that is good with toddlers is tough. I love the staff and they're extremely helpful. I am very skeptical about this place after reading the reviews while sitting in the lobby checking my daughter in for her appointment. The ONLY reason this place got a 3 out of 5 stars is for the ambiance, the pleasant dentist, dental hygienist and the various assistants walking around who were so pleasant. My issues with the place are as follows: 1) I completed all the paperwork on line which is suppose to save time and be a convenience, however when I got there at that point the people at the front desk started to research my insurance which was listed on the on line paperwork and whisper and procrastinate taking my daughter back. We were the first to arrive and they took the family who arrive after us back before us. 2) The front desk manager (not sure who she is- she may be someone else) is very sneaky. She walked in while my daughter was getting her teeth cleaned in the open space where other families are having their children teeth cleaned and said "She can't get the full xray only the sides because insurance doesn't cover the full until after June 3". I think that was something she could have told me and the nurse in the private xray room which is where we were heading after the teeth cleaning. 3) The front desk manager lady adds laughing gas to my followup appointment paper with my daughters two fillings EVEN though the dentist and the nurse standing there said the cavities are soooo small that she doesn't need any gas, however the lady insisted on adding it to my followup forms and saying that I need to come prepared to pay $70 for laughing gas because it's not covered in our insurance BUT she doesn't need the gas so I don't' get why I am coming prepared to pay for something unnecessary. The look of the place, majority of the staff and the location are all 5's in my book. However the ploy to obtain additional money, discuss insurance information with strangers in the room who are not on staff, whisper about insurance, etc.. are ALL NEGATIVES in my BOOK. I have my own business so my insurance is independent and not through an organization I pay BCBS direct so I am still not sure what the whispering at the front desk was for, the delay in service, the outburst of what's not covered and when it's covered, etc.. was all about. read more

Update: So this past year has been fun. . In November 2013 my daughter had fillings done by Young and Polite in Waxhaw which I had verified with the front desk that they are in my network. I paid her portion, and a few months later I got a bill for almost $500. When I called Young and Polite they said they didn't know why I was getting that bill and to double check with my insurance because my insurance hadn't covered as much as they thought it would. My insurance told me that I was not in network with Young and Polite I called Young and Polite back and they insisted they are in network with them, the woman told me she would figure it out and get back to me right away. A few days passed and I called her back, I was assured she was working on it and would call me right back. She did not call me back. This went on for MONTHS I even went into Young and Polite to discuss it with them because, while I hate the idea of shelling out $500 for their mistake, I hate the idea of my credit being ruined more. When I went in the woman told me my file was on her desk right now, there had been a clerical error where they forgot to send in some paperwork and that's why my insurance said I wasn't in network but they were working on fixing it and my bill would be going down to $0 once that was done and she is working on it and she would call me the next day. She never did. I called and left messages for her many times over the next few months(that was in May) and she was always out of the office and never returned my calls. Finally in the beginning of October 2014 I got a bill from Young and Polite saying I owed them $0.00. I sighed with relief thinking it was finally over and tossed the bill. Yesterday(November 25th) I got the mail, imagine my surprise when I opened it to see a bill from Young and Polite for $500 saying it was dated the 14th of November and that if I didn't pay my bill in ten days they were going to send me to collections. Since I did not receive this notice until the day after their ultimatum I assume my good credit has been besmirched and I am not happy about it. I went out of my way countless times to fix this issue, and I feel harassed at this point. read more

I love how the waiting room is designed for the kids. The kids can all play games while they wait for their names to be called. I have 3 kids, so not having to hear them fight is great. That's about all that's GOOD about this place! BUT..... my kids are young (5, 6, & 7) and we were told that 2 of them needed further work done, ie fillings and sealants. My kids do brush their teeth on a regular basis so this was a shock to me. I complied with the dentist's observations and brought them back in to complete the dental work. 6 month later, I guess it was time for another cleaning, because they called me a few times to schedule an appointment. I always thought you get a cleaning once a year, but again, I did as I was told by the experts and scheduled a cleaning for all 3 of my children. My children and I arrived 10 minutes late to our first appointment time, even though the woman at the front desk corrected me and said we were 12 minutes late. They have a 10 minute grace period, so we were beyond our grace period. I asked if the other 2 kids could still be seen, but after the woman checked with the supervisor (I'm guessing), we were not able to be seen. They were claiming that all 3 children were scheduled for the same time slot, even though my text reminder clearly says "your first appointment time is at..." Not to mention, there was a child and his mother in the waiting room, obviously waiting to be seen. A little flustered, I decided to leave and reschedule once I could view my schedule. So, I come home and get a phone call from Young & Polite just moments after I arrive. The woman said that I had missed my appointment, would I like to reschedule? I explained to her that we were just there and we were refused service because we were late. She had no knowledge of this. She said she would notate our file and again asked if we would like to reschedule. At this point, I've had enough. Word of advise: STAY AWAY!!! Save yourself a headache. read more

This it to warn all you parents who are taking your kids to Young and Polite Dentistry. My 8 year old daughter was seen in June and it was recommended at that visit that she have 2 possibly 3 cavities filled at the time. The treatment plan was not explained well at that visit, and my understanding was that it was all able to be done in one visit. I was given a copy of the treatment plan, but must have possibly misunderstood what she was telling me at the time. Or at least I thought, I had. I held off the service until August due their COVID policy In June, as they are not letting ANY parents in with their child at this time. My daughter was very anxious and upset about the whole situation. This was explained to the staff and I even volunteered to get a letter from her physician explaining her anxiety issues. At any rate, we showed up Monday to have the service done, as I was told if my daughter was upset they would let me in masked and if I passed the COVID screen. After the dental assistant came to have me sign the consent paperwork, I expressed to her again my concern of not being able to come in with my child, and she went to get the patient coordinator. I was told by the patient care coordinator that she would try to speak to my daughter and encourage her to come in by herself when I spoke to her the Friday before. So I was happy to have her help on getting my daughter to agree to the treatment. Instead a pediatric dentist and the patient coordinator came out. The dentist said she understood I had questions about the treatment plan, and I said no my concern was more to do with my daughter being nervous. The dentist then told me she reviewed my daughters notes and xrays and that she would need a crown now also. (This was literally 5 minutes before they took her back). I asked how they could change that so quickly, and was told "well, I'm a pediatric dentist." And my response was "Yes, and aren't you all pediatric dentists that saw my child at this practice?" When I questioned her about that she just kept answering it with "I don't know who saw her last time." So basically, a person who has never looked in my child's mouth once decided after looking at a paper that my daughter needed a crown. Yet, the possible other "pediatric dentist" from June did not even mentioned or suggested during the last visit when the cavities were originally found. Long story short my "mama" instinct kicked in and we left. I asked to sign to have all records to be sent to another dentist. I wanted a second opinion. I did just that! I went to see another pediatric dentist today, for another opinion. The new dental office re-took the xrays because Young and Polite were not being cooperative with sending them, and told the receptionist that it takes up to 48 hours even though they had my signed form. I had the new dentist repeat the xrays so that we could see what was going on. I had had it with Young and Polite and there ridiculous policies. Guess what? My daughter does not have ANY cavities. Not one! She has some discoloration due to a lot of antibiotics she had to take as an infant. That can appear to look like cavities, but those teeth and discoloration were not in ANY of the teeth Young and Polite said needed a filling. Not even the same quadrant. Young and Polite finally sent her X-rays before we left and again the new dentist compared the two and could not find the cavities on either x-ray. She said there was no reason to crown the baby tooth they had recommended. I am through with people in health care trying to overcharge and diagnose things that are simply not there. So I suggest that you simply do not go that practice! And if you do, and if they suggest your child has a cavity, then get a second opinion! read more

Where to start? I had taken my daughter to the Tyron location and was so happy when we moved here to see one so close by. So this place is super convenient for us Waxhaw folks who want a pediatric dentist. It's cute inside, really engaging for the kids (which helps when your appointment is 40 mins after scheduled time) and is comfortable for parents. This review is based on our visit about a year ago. I was initially hesitant to share our experience but then I realized what they're doing seems to be common. After a quick check up by the assistant, a dentist came by and immediately I got a weird feeling from her. No introductions, no conversation just hand in my daughter mouth. States she has several (3 or 4) cavities. Promptly walks away. That took all of a minute. No opportunity to ask questions or address concerns. No showing me the questionable areas or the X-rays. I am immediately miffed and proceed to check out. The girl was sweet at first but her attitude shifted when I began to question the charges. She hands my a sheet that states our patient responsibility and when I question the safety/need/cost of laughing gas for a 6 year old she essentially guilts me and questions why I would want my daughter to be uncomfortable during the procedure. Of course, the "cavities" are on opposite sides which requires 2 visits and 2 charges of laughing gas. They tell me that my insurance won't cover much and each cavity is going to be over $125 to fill and I need to pay up front. They also suggested I get sealants on all her teeth...which insurance won't cover but of course, if I am a good mom I would do that and not question. And even better, they could squeeze us in the next day. No thanks. I leave and call my dental carrier. They told me each filling would run is about $16-25 and they don't cover sealants on baby teeth as its not recommended by the ADA. I got a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I take my daughter to another pediatric dentist nearby and because I had already gotten her cleanings for the year I spent $230 to have her fully examined for a second opinion. That's how weird this feeling I had was. Y'all, no cavities. Nothing. Perfectly healthy teeth. I don't know why there is such a difference in the offices, but I am so upset that Y and P here in Waxhaw is not patient focused. I believe they have a lot of cost running all their fancy X boxes, tv screens and iPads. They need to make money somehow. It's not worth it. I'd rather take my kid to a dentist who truly cares about her and her dental health versus all their nice amenities. I am so outraged with the horrible service we received here. It is clear that this practice only wants their money and doesn't care about their patients. Children at that!! We came for an appoint to get a filling done and had an X-ray. Then after waiting for the doctor for two hours she said that she didn't have time to see us and we had to reschedule. Two weeks later we came back and she wanted to do ANOTHER X-ray!!! We refused and she told us she wasn't comfortable to proceeds with the filling. Outrageous. Run! Don't abuse your children with harmful X-rays so they can fill their pockets at your child's expense! read more

Very pleased! My 3 year old was so excited when he saw all the games he could play while he waited, however we didn't have to wait long which was great. We got a whole tour of the office before the hygienist brought us back. My son had his own room because it was his first time. Dr young was super nice and kid friendly. Didn't even get to do the first appointment. Some obscure law was used as the excuse why they couldn't see the patient and when I called around to other offices they hadn't heard of this. When I brought up valid points why they should've caught this ahead of time they tried placing blame. We should have checked the reviews prior to visiting. Be very careful at this place. You will be "recommended" a lot of additional things. And before you know it, you will be sent a bill for hundreds of dollars. They will never call you and explain the bill to you, and they didn't explain it in the office either. I have possibly the best insurance out there. We pay zero for anything and everything. Yet these people were able to add-on a bunch of x-rays without telling us. Ask them to explain EVERYTHING TO YOU BEFORE they do it. And all the cost associated with it. I took my 5yr old there. The nurse told "it was rude" to not listen to her. My daughter kept saying it hurts, it hurts. And the nurse said it was the kid's fault because she was the professional. WTF!!! But then I found out why. They said it would be easier with Anesthesia. It would COST JUST A LITTLE more but it would much more pleasant. read more

Stay away. We took our daughter there after she went to a general dentist and that dentist felt she had some issues that would be managed better by a pediatric specialist. We waited over an hour and then when the dentist finally showed up, she didn't even address the issue the general dentist had a concern about. She went into great detail about all the other treatments my daughter would need, and the costs and a payment plan, etc., but didn't address one single issue we had walked in the door to discuss. Took my daughter to another dentist for a second opinion and was treated for what my daughter actually needed which amounted to one filling and sealants. Beware of this pediatric dental office. They sent out of network claims to my insurance company, which resulted in them being paid wrong, so they overbilled me. I have been trying to fix the situation for a year. I have dates and names of calling 8 times in August with not ONE call back. The office assistant, jokingly said she felt like we were "BFF's since I had left so many messages". Very unprofessional. After no callback, I sent a detailed email to the office and requested it be shown to the doctors, including when I stopped in to discuss the issue and was shown a breakdown on the system that showed insurance paid for nitrous for both my children at 100%, yet the office told me nitrous is not covered and made me pay $100 for each child. The office manager called me back, admitted their erroneous mistakes in filing the claims under the wrong network, wave the balances that were a result of their mistakes and apologized for the year long horrific experience. I informed her that my children always felt comfortable with the doctors and hygienists, and I would bring the children back for their next appts. I made an appt. for my daughter for next week and cleaning and a problem tooth visit. I just received a call from the NEW office manager, who informed me that Rosie, the old manager is no longer with the practice, and that reading the notes, she is calling to cancel my daughters appointments, that she needs to "nicely" ask me to take my children elsewhere! WOW, it took a year for them to rectify their huge mistake, and because I complained about their "double billing", the doctors told them to tell me to go elsewhere. I would recommend you AVOID Young & Polite in Waxhaw. We have several kids and the dentists starting saying they had cavities. Considering how well they take care of their teeth, this was surprising, but we had fillings done. When they told me my 9 year old need a root canal and 4 fillings, I went for a second opinion at a different dentist for 2 of our kids and he said he didn't see ANY teeth needing fillings or a root canal. Now we're getting strange bills from Y&P for things we didn't ask for. AVOID this dentist practice. read more

My nephew and niece go there. I had to take them and I was amazed by how nice the staff is! Starting at check in, the receptionist made sure I was authorized to bring them (which made me feel very secure.) The girls in the back noticed how nervous my nephew was and made sure they took time explaining everything to him. That surely gained his trust! The doctor came over and checked them and knew them by name! I was impressed as the office seems to be busy and they still take time to talk to every kid individually. My son had a very bad experience today. How do you give a novocaine when the light doesn't work? They forced something in his mouth even after he complained it was hurting. They didn't stop so he pulled it out himself. I'm glad I stayed in the room with him so I can watch their thuggy and unprofessional ways. We will never step a foot in that place again.
