I started seeing him when he was located in that strip mall off O'Connor and Nacogdoches. He is probably the best dentist in San Antonio bar none. And I have been seeing Dr. Long since he started working there. This review is directed at (you guessed it) the office staff that handles the dental claims and communicates with it's patients...the ones responsible filing claims in a timely manner and communicating this process clearly to the patient. Definitely was not done in this case. In December of 2025 I had 2 tori removed. I was pretty sure insurance was not going to cover this. They (Riley) gave me a treatment plan that reflected my cost was around $1400 dollars. After the procedure when I went to pay I was told I owe $1701. I thought well they have overcharged me in the past but I always got a refund in a timely manner (after the insurance claim was filed). Also in all the many years i have been using them they have always filed to my dental insurance in a timely manner. And insurance immediately sends me a statement saying yes it's covered or no it's not and this is what you owe. Well that never happened in this case. The only thing that was filed initially was the sedation medication used. And it listed no surgical procedure. So insurance denied it saying basically what was the procedure? And I couldn't get an answer on why the office did that. They did file another procedure which was not the tori removal and my insurance paid it ($219) but it had nothing to do with the tori removal. And it was not performed on me. Bottom line: they never filed the tori removal to my dental insurance. Yes, most likely it would have been denied. But, now I could have appealed it. I would have to have shown it was medically necessary. Confusing the matter was that I called in late January 2026 asking about the filing of the claim and was told that I might be due a refund. I'm thinking why would I be due a refund? Now I'm totally confused. So I finally decided to just talk to one person (Riley) so I dont get conflicting info every time I call. She said she is working (communicating with corporate office) on my claim. That totally confused me again. Told her I just want my tori removal to be filed to insurance. She gave me a cryptic answer that she either does not get involved or has no control over the dental insurance part. But after several phone calls she said she would call when she knows something. Nope. That didn't happen. Fast forward about 4 months. I got a text from the office saying I owed another $337. When I called Riley I said I thought you were going to call me when this was resolved. She answered something to the effect she had a lot of people to call.

I called, disputed, was even told I shouldn't have a bill as I was VA. Well, I then received a bill in the mail for the same amount. The secondary issue concerns part of the balance. My wife, had GEHA High dental insurance and made an initial appointment. This service is listed as April 2, 2025 with a balance of 103.00 owed. Once again the problem is this.. It was covered in full by GEHA. I have called, disputed, and there doesn't really seem to be an interest in resolving this.. I guess the next step would be to call government agencies that handle this sort of mess.. Why? Because issues concerning something of this nature should be handled professionally and quickly. The VA, and GEHA have paid and I don't owe anything.. I'm posting this in hopes no one else falls into this mess.

I keep my mouth fairly clean and haven't had mouth pain for 4 years. 2 weeks ago one of my fillings fell out. It's not painful, but the edges are sharp against my tongue. I called Oasis up and made an appointment to fix my filling. They already have my records, and maybe I'd get back into the habit of regular cleanings. They saw me 2 days after my filling fell out. Awesome. I go to my appointment. They take xrays and ask me questions about the severity of my missing filling. I've got no pain, it just needs to be replaced. They say they don't have time to fix it today and that I need another appointment. Apparently it'll take an hour. I was hoping to get it done, but no biggie. They can see me in a week. I take time off work to get my filling replaced. On my way out of my neighborhood they call and tell me they're pushing me back. Ok. Things happen. I get seated in a room 15 minutes after my appointment. Now my blood pressure is 2 points too high. They use one of those cheap electronic BP cuffs. I'm sitting in this dentist chair hoping my BP drops so I can get this work done that I tried to schedule a week and a half ago. They take my blood pressure 2 more times with the cheap cuff, tell me a few things about ADA regulations, and boot me out the door. I worked in healthcare. When a cheap BP cuff reads high, usually someone takes a manual pressure which is more accurate. I was 2 points high, probably at least partly caused by them delaying my appointment and now they won't treat me. If you didn't want me as a patient because I stopped routine cleanings 4 years ago, have the decency to tell me and not waste my time at 2 appointments. You could have told me last week that I should find a new dentist and I would have understood. Dr Galles may be an ok dentist but he is not an ok person.

As frustrating as i was at myself, i put hope into them to let me know everything that was going on with my mouth in order for them and myself to do the necessary work to get my mouth in a healthy state. I go all summer 2026 taking off from work, getting cleanings, etc. Then one day after i got my cleaning, i chewed down on the left side of my mouth, and it felt i went into the twilight zone. It was the most excruciating pain ive felt. I no longer can chew/eat on my left side because it felt like zings every time. So, i told my dentist and they scheduled me for some fillings. I walked in letting them know the pain. The front desk wanted me to pay first for two fillings on my left side. In my mind, i felt it was more than just two fillings that would elevate the pain. So, when i go to the back to speak to the hygienist, he was super incompetent and literally wanted me to show him the tooth that was bothering me. I'm like don't you have my chart in front of you!? It's not just a tooth, it's two teeth on my left side. So they do exams again and my dentist comes in telling me i need a root canal! I was like "A root canal!" I said "why didn't you tell me that at the beginning of the summer bc i didn't see that in my original exams" she tells me "well we didn't see it in your exams" I'm so frustrated and confused at the low technology they have and incompetence they lack. So, they recommend me to an Endo who is out of my network. I then take it upon myself to find Aspen Dental who not only has an Endo who is within my network, but I can also find a dentist here. I read reviews on Aspen, and i was nervous at first bc there were a lot of mix reviews. However, the women at the front including Ashley and Evelyn were soooooo welcoming and made me feel comfortable. As a black woman, i actually felt heard bc sometimes in the medical environments we're pushed aside for our pain. Dr. Haagan was thorough with me, told me what they saw and turns out i actually need 3 root canals. My last dentist office never told me this so i was glad Aspen Dental just let me know in detail EVERYTHING instead of half the story of my mouth. So, Ashley gave me a dental plan and I'm happy to start the process of getting my moth fix so i can eat in peace again and not feel like I'm going to another dimension

She returned with the office manager carrying what looked like an essay and by that time I was done with them. I asked them how much I owed them, not sure if they charged my insurance or just wanted to get rid of me but said I didnt owe anything. What happened to the medical professionals that were there to assist patients... not to make the most they could off of people?

In reality Dr. Durnford was putting my safety and the elimination of my issue above all else.

Our kids have been seeing them, including when our daughter was 3 and our son was 4. They always made them feel comfortable and relaxed, and now the kids actually look forward to going to the dentist. Many dentists would want to use nitrous oxide, but our kids trust them enough that it's really not necessary. We've had a couple of emergencies, including our very first visit, and they have always accommodated our need to see them promptly. The hygienists are the most gentle, yet thorough, and the assistants are cheerful and helpful as well. Even the front desk staff are incredibly friendly and joyful. Their rates are reasonable in comparison to other dentists, but it's the outstanding service and professionalism that sets this office apart. I cannot imagine getting anything else but the best treatment possible with Drs. Mark and Maria. It really doesn't matter which one treats our family members, because both of them are skilled, professional, and very, very patient and friendly. They treat us all like we're a part of their family. And, no, I'm not a paid endorser - just a very, very happy patient among a family of them!

I was referred to this place because the original one was out of network for some work I had to get done. I went for a consultation at their other location on Bandera and was given an outline of the treatment. It took two months for this office to get me an appointment. I had to place a 100 deposit, which they tried to keep. Then I paid in full over 2k for the procedure. They told me they would file a claim and I would receive some reimbursement. I have never been so terrified to the point I almost walked out. The doctor was so heavy handed that I started to get anxiety. I felt like I was being stabbed to the point of exhaustion. I get that that had to numb me but he could have been more gentle about it. Once the procedure was over they sent my medication to the wrong pharmacy and was told they would have to call to resubmit it. Luckily my husband called while in the waiting area because getting ahold of anyone can be nearly impossible. They took 30 days to process my claim with my insurance. Then they submitted things wrong. They don't communicate with their other office at all so don't even bother. I followed up with him which that part was okay. Mind you it was less invasive. On my last follow-up they wanted to schedule me for a cleaning. I told them I already have a provider I see that I absolutely love. They insisted and I felt pressured to scheduled the appointment. I did but call back to cancel it. They continued to try to get me to reschedule and asked me the reason for my cancellation. I continued to reiterate to cancel the appointment. The office is not only rude but very disorganized. I don't feel like your care is their priority but rather the money they can suck out of you. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had. I would not recommend this office or doctor. Although the doctor seems very knowledgeable and pleasant he is too harsh in his bedside manners of approach. You've been warned.
