This place lives up to the hype! The restaurant can be very busy and it is difficult to get reservations on a short notice. However, they have lots of first-come, first-serve bar seating and save some of their dining room for walk-ins so don't feel like you can't go if you don't have a reservation. If you want to solidify a seat or have large party I would recommend making a reservation at least 1 month in advance. We had the Cauliflower and Tavern Pie which was the perfect amount for two people to share. There pizzas are all 12", so you definitely could eat it all if you wanted, but it is very comfortable to share. The cauliflower is some of the best cauliflower I have ever had and the pizza crust is the perfect balance between thick and thin. Highly recommend!! read more

I've been to Young Joni twice while traveling for work. Both times for dinner and once for dinner and then at the speak easy. This is a beautiful place with a great vibe, friendly service, great food and drink. The Korean BBQ and Tavern pies are delicious, with some mix of savory, salty and sweet. Awesome. We finally tried Young Joni! We got here at 5:30 and were seated at a community table. We asked the friendly and helpful server how much pizza we should order for our group of 4 and she recommended 3-4 pizzas. We ordered 3; the margherita, the Korean short rib pizza and the potato and leek. All were absolutely delicious! We also ordered the short ribs and the corn. It was about the perfect amount. Another great experience at Young Joni. I still think it's one of the best places in the city. Perfect atmosphere and vibe. Amazing pizza and good options. Good drinks and cocktails. Price for a pizza is around $15 per person which is a lot for pizza but not much for this kind of quality and restaurant. We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday night and were told it was a 45 minute wait. The food was fantastic, but the noise level was overwhelming. By far, the best pizza in the TC. It's our go to. And the salads are divine.

We came in on a Saturday night without reservations (oops) but we're able to sit at the bar after a 45 minute wait. We are fans of Pizzeria Lola and we're excited to finally get over to Young Joni. We came to Young Joni last night for some dinner and we really enjoyed our experience. The space is super warm, almost industrial, but the open kitchen and service staff were both great. The food was terrific. We started with the Bibim Grain salad, which I really enjoyed. It was probably my favorite dish of the night. The different flavors (slightly spicy, slightly acidic) were great, and the textures complemented each other well. Next, we got the korean sweet potatoes, tomato & burrata, and cauliflower. All 3 were great and unique. The sweet potatoes were served with a creme fraiche and gochujaru. The bonito flakes added a nice fishy flavor. The tomato & burrata was good, I thought the sauce it was served with was really good. It reminded me of a spanish sauce you would get with mussels. There were also crunchy bits with this that I really enjoyed. The cauliflower was my favorite of this round. Cooked perfectly, and the cauliflower yogurt added a nice freshness to the dish. For mains, we shared the pork spare ribs, whole fish, and korean BBQ pizza. The ribs were ok, they were cooked perfectly, they weren't messy but came off the bone easily. They had slightly too much glaze for me. The fish was really good, the skin had a nice char and the sauce it was served with was one of the highlights of the night. It was fish sauce based but not too fishy. The cilantro added a nice freshness to it. The pizza was really good as well, I loved the flavor and look forward to coming back and trying more pizza. Young Joni by the same people that brought us Pizzeria Lola! I expect nothing but yummyness at Young Joni! I've been wanting to come here for months, but finally got to recently. It certainly did not disappoint, with the exception of the wait! Came here on around 8:30pm on a Friday and it was busy! Waited 45 minutes or so. Got ended up being put in a community table. They didn't even ask which one we preferred.. oh well, we were too hungry to care. Young Joni is known for unique pizza, so make sure you get that! In terms of the menu, it's very similar to Pizzeria Lola and some of the pizzas have similarities, with exception of maybe one or two ingredients. For instance, the Forager mushroom pizza at Lola and Umami Mama pretty much only differ by Nori in the Umami mama, some sort of seaweed. Other than that, it's practically the same. It's not a bad thing, especially if you like Lola. My girlfriend got the Umami Mama and I thought the nori was an interesting touch. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. I got the The Pepe which had fresh clams, Parmigiano Reggiano, mozzarella, crème fraîche, garlic, shallot, parsley, chili flake, lemon. It was delicious! I loved it a lot. It's probably one of my favorites, if not my favorite pizza between Lola and Joni. Overall, a very hip, trendy place to grab dinner and chill. I had no idea this place gets booked up for the month so came when they opened around 4pm. Got seated at the bar and this placed got filled up very quickly. Awesome and very friendly and helpful service. The drinks taste exactly like how it's described on the menu and very well made. Got the korean BBQ and lamb pizza. Lamb pizza definitely had a kick so be aware! K BBQ pizza was really good but glad to have gotten the lamb to get a variety of flavors. I think is prefer the lamb actually just because of the spice. Oh and the cauliflower......dude.....have to have to get the cauliflower when you come here. So much deliciousness happening at Young Joni. Good service, cool, comfortable space, great vibe. The Kimchi Hummus, Cauliflower and Grilled Chicken Wings were wonderfully spiced. The Cauliflower and the Hummus were especially yummy. Of the three pizzas we tried La Parisienne was the most popular, with the Basque and Korean finishing second and third. All very interesting and tasty but La Parisienne had a creamy and savory balance ( prosciutto, gruyère, ricotta, brown butter, caramelized onion, arugula, pickled mustard seed) that paired so well with the chewy crust. But the surprise hit of the evening was the Grilled Sea Bass. A gorgeous presentation, and SO very delicious. I would order it every visit and share with a friend or two. read more

Young Joni lives up to the hype! I know they don't need another 5 star review, but here we go anyway. This super popular restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis has been getting (much deserved) press both near and far. The Chef, Ann Kim, just won a James Beard award for Best Chef Midwest! Which is basically like a food Oscar. The restaurant is in an up and coming neighborhood, close to the old Grain Belt Brewery building. Since my Dad lived just a few blocks away in the 70's and 80's, I can tell you for a fact, the neighborhood is much hipper now. :) The interior of Young Joni has a mid century modern feel with bar seating in the middle where you can watch the cooks work their magic with the wood fired oven. Speaking of wood fired, that is the theme at Young Joni. The pizza that comes out of that oven is especially famous, and we tried four of them! But don't discount the rest of the menu, specifically the vegetables. That might sound strange, but the veggie dishes we ordered were my favorite part of the meal. We ordered burrata with peas in a light pesto sauce, it was fresh, light and full of flavor. And then we ordered the cauliflower... oh, that cauliflower! Roasted cauliflower with blistered shishito peppers, pickled freshno chilies, a chermoula sauce (herbs, garlic, lemon, spices), almonds, golden raisins on top of a "cauliflower yogurt". I don't even know what cauliflower yogurt is. If (when!) I go back to Young Joni's, I'm ordering the cauliflower as my meal and I'm not sharing. Let's get back to those pizzas. I had the Basque with Spanish chorizo, olives, peppers and more and it was so good. The crust is on the thinner side, but still nice and chewy with that flavor only the wood fire can give. We also had the classic Margherita, the La Parisienne with prosciutto, gruyere, arugula and mustard seed, and a gluten free crust for the YOLO with sausage, bacon and pepperoni. My friend that had the gluten free pizza said it was the best GF crust she'd had. Now the hard part about going to an uber popular place like Young Joni is that everyone wants to go (duh). Reservations are hard to get for dinner, but if you go for lunch (get there early and line up), it's first come, first served. We had a few cocktails, took our time ordering, and chatted like old friends do. Our waitress was so lovely, she never rushed us or made us feel like we were taking up valuable real estate. (Also, ask your server for a ticket for the photo booth in the back!) The negative about going to Young Joni for lunch? They also have a "back bar" speakeasy, but it doesn't open till 4pm. The cocktails look amazing (they aren't on the Young Joni menu) and have really fun names (Yahtzee Lessons, Free Jetski, Single and Ready to Mingle, etc). So, this is very good pizza and other food. However, I'm not sure I get the over the top accolades and awards. We would definitely go back, but it's not life altering, game changing, not going anywhere else again food; it's just very good pizza, like several other really good pizza places in the Twin Cities. Now, we didn't really push the pizza boundaries as my family is more of a basic pizza kind of mentality, but we did try more than the Old Reliable. Every pizza was executed well. The latest trendy hotspot located in the heart of hipster-ville serving pizza and Korean BBQ. The menu has lots of tempting options and a decent wine list in a $25-55 price range. We opted for pizza - my wife got the "La Parisienne" (crispy crust with Gruyere cheese, prosciutto, arugula and some pickled mustard seed -all sweet and salty goodness. I had the spicy Amatriciana pizza (spicy tomato sauce, guancale, onions and red pepper) which was a bit spicy but oh so delicious. We probably should have shared a pizza but it will be nice to have the leftovers for lunch. We decided to top things off with the delightful church basement cookies and bars platter-a selection on bite-sized desserts including dark chocolate cookies, peanut butter/chocolate bar and lemon cheesecake. No matter how full you are you need to order this! We really enjoyed the elegant and artsy space and the meal. The place as an electric vibe with lots of energy. One drawback, parking is a bit tricky with its popularity and the Brewery just up the street so you may have to search a little. The restaurant does take reservations (which we made about a month ahead - first availability - which gives some idea of the hype of this place). When we came in for our 6:30 Saturday reservation, they were only telling people an hour wait so perhaps they don't reserve all the tables. Pizza is over priced, size is small and the bread is quite dry. There wasn't much service despite the 21% surcharge. The potato hash was tiny, it was the size of a small potato and a few pieces of pork, definitely not worth $19. We spent over $145 for 4 food items and a couple beers. When we asked for a box, we got a bag for our pizza LOL! That was it for me! if you charge a premium price for your food and service, at least have the decency to give your customer a box! I am a fan. I ordered a few of there small plates and a salad for dinner. It was really good, especially the beef skewers! Definitely get that! The unsuspecting infusion of lemongrass in the meat sent me to 7th heaven and I left a part of my soul there forever. The shrimp too, omg. Just go already I'll have to go there again! Everyone knows about the spectacular pizza which on our case is Korean BBQ which was delicious under a pile of arugula. Let me also swoon over the crust which is light, crispy and slightly charred. The cauliflower, mushrooms and fish wraps are always welcome, especially with the rich sauce for each one. Did I mention the soft serve? It's nothing special until you put sea salt and olive oil on. Used to be awesome. Not anymore. Tried to give them business for lunch on a Saturday. More than half the tables were open, yet they said it was a 45 minute wait. We asked if the bar was self seating? They said, yes. So, we went to sit down. The host came over and told us we were not able to sit at the bar for 30 minutes because there were only 2 bartenders and they did not want to overwhelm them by allowing us 3 to sit at the bar for 30 minutes. There were a total of 12 people at the two bars. 2 bartenders can't handle 12 people? The worst part is he was rude. Starting to be the common theme about Young Joni. Everyone is talking about how the service has gone downhill since the pandemic. Tried to help, but we will never go back. Ok, so this was my second time eating here. The first go around, not so good, I go sick, puked and got into an accident (bad seafood was my guess). I didn't bother writing a review at the time, because I was never going to go back. Alas, here I am, I went back (not by choice) and had a much more positive experience. It was for a birthday celebration and we had a part of 10 (including a toddler). The seating was fine, just a little tight; so, I'll call it intimate. We also made a reservation ahead of time, and if you don't, you'll end up waiting 1-2 hours, finding an open seat at the bar or getting carryout. We picked out the YOLO, Umami Mama, Korean BBQ and Sausage Onion for pizza. We sprinkled in the Bibim Grain salad (ordered it again actually, cuz it was tasty) and hit up a double order of wings (kids like wings, right?). The Bibim Grain salad is simply delightful; very fresh, crispy and complex flavors. I nice item to start with, before you dive head first into the pizzas. Now to start and end the pizza debate, any pizza you order will be amazing. You don't have to worry about ordering something bad, in fact, I challenge you to order something you normally wouldn't and see how you feel. Every za is made to order and is enough to share with 1-2 people (three depending on how much you eat and what else you order). So this place has been popping up in my fellow Yelpers check-ins and has been discussed in the local rags and amongst friends over the last few weeks as the word is starting to spread. So last night, I'm next door, swilling a post soccer Sour Delores at Dangerous Man and a friend says I should grab something from here. I ask the bar for a menu and they have nothing. I pull up their website, no menu. I start perusing what everyone is wetting themselves about in Yelp reviews and decide on this. I call and they say they prefer I order in person. Odd but sure. Since I'm next door, no problem. If I wasn't, it would've been cause we all know how the parking in that area kinda blows. But needless to say, I'm glad I made the decision to amble on over. My game plan was to have half with my beer next door, and have the other half for lunch today and be the king of the break room with people asking, "What is that? Where's that from? What's on that again? Oh. I just got my Healthy Choice. That looks soooo good". Yeah, sucks to be you but then my plan started to unravel. I ate one more slice. How could I resist? It's friggin good! She made a great old fashioned with her own spin on it. Excellent service! We had the wings and the Korean BBQ pizza. Both wonderful. The wings came with a nice spicy sauce that we kept to dip our pizza bones in. The lime for the wings added a great tang. Nice Asian flavors. We were so excited to come here again. The first time everything was amazing! The second time not so much. Let's all agree that this is no Dominos. Which means the food and service has to reflect this. The pizza options are pretty good. But at 20 - 30 per personal pizza is a bit too much. The non pizza options are great. Service is bad. It's very slow and you have to remind the waitstaff to fill your water or bring you the check. The waiter dropped a used knife in my lap that left a stain. Nothing was done ... My wife and I went out for our weekly lunch and decided to try a sister of our favorite pizza place, Pizzeria Lola. I got the Cote d'Azur which has red sauce, anchovies, caramelized onions, capers, thyme, and olive oil. It didn't include cheese, which is fine by me. Kind of soggy, but definitely tasty. Loved the saltiness of the anchovies. My wife got the Marinara with no olive oil and loved it! The crust is super crispy and comes out quick. I got a Dangerous Man House IPA to go with the lunch. Does Young Joni live up to the hype? Absolutely. We have been trying to get a reservation here for like ever and finally we're able to sneak in during the Super Bowl. It was the perfect date night spot. Really beautiful interior with great mood lighting. The service was top notch. We ordered the pork spare ribs for a starter. Wowza. These were delicious. Don't even hesitate to try these and there is a good amount for an app. We then ordered the the Korean BBQ for our main pizza dish. I can safely say I have never had a pizza like this. The beef was so flavorful and good and the veggies were such a nice fresh touch. We devoured this whole thing. I had the Julep as a cocktail and it was refreshing. My husband cannot not stop talking about this place and we can't wait to come back! Oh and they also have a cute photobooth in the back if you want a fun souvenir to take home! Young Joni lived up to the hype and another great success for Ann Kim and Conrad Leifur. The restaurant is a very cool, hip scene and the service was excellent. Drinks are not cheap so be prepared but the food is great. We started off with the Brussels sprouts and Bibim Grain (farro) - both very good and had a nice kick, possibly due to the gochujang vinaigrette. We tried the Korean Beef Short Ribs - not a big plate (think 4-5 pieces) but the marinade was good and I would get them again. Finally, we had the Basque pizza, which is a Spanish chorizo, mozzarella, goat cheese, piquillo pepper, red onion, olives, and lemon - very good. I rarely give any restaurant a 5 star rating and Young Joni would truly get a 4 1/2 star in my book but given the atmosphere, setting, and quality of the food and service, I have to tip my hat to Ann Kim for another successful venture and a cool restaurant in NE Minneapolis. As for parking, I think most people know there's street metered parking in this park of NE Mpls - drive around a little, stretch your legs and walk a couple of blocks. read more

Wow, was I ever impressed with Young Joni! I first went around back and had a drink in the speakeasy (the red light was on). Our server was attentive and funny, and I had a fantastic cocktail for $11 (I can't remember exactly what it was but it was served in a champagne glass and light in color :)). The atmosphere was different than other speakeasies I've been to - it has an old cabin vibe. After enjoying some drinks, my group went around front to see if we could get in for dinner. We didn't have reservations, but since it was a Monday night they were able to fit us in at the communal table. We ordered a few dishes to share, and they were all so good. The cauliflower was my absolute favorite - I'd order it every time I go back. The pizza crust is also to die for (which we knew since we've been to Lola too). The cocktails up front were also delicious, with a completely different menu than the back bar. The restaurant itself is a work of art - it doesn't look like any other restaurant I've been in.
