    Mac & Cheese
    Nikky V.

My group and I sat on the outdoor patio and it was a great vibe! I ordered the Mac & Cheese, and I think it's one of the best around Mpls. The flavor is amazing - the perfect amount of cheese and I love the breadcrumbs added as well! This time, I ended up adding the steamed broccoli option and loved it. My friend got the Steak & Pierogis and loved it - another good go-to. Already want to plan my next visit back!

    Deviled eggs

This was a great lunch spot for me! The space was nice and open with good seating, and my server was very helpful and kept my soda filled. I started with the deviled egg appetizer, and they were delicious. My main course was the angel hair pomodoro with shrimp, and it was delicious, with the exception of me having to add a little extra salt and pepper. My biggest complaint here was the abysmal parking, which I know was not the restaurants fault but I wanted to warn anyone for the future. On a Thursday at about 11:30, it took me at least 20 minutes of circling about 10 blocks trying to find any open parking until finally I found some about 4 blocks away.

Great food and drinks at The Freehouse! The truffle burger was delicious, I truly enjoyed every bite! The lemongrass Thai chicken was also very good, especially when adding the cauliflower rice. The Mac and cheese was downright tasty, extremely cheesy! And we definitely would get the calamari appetizer again, great dipping sauces with that dish! The service was top notch, very attentive and knowledgeable. There's plenty of seating in this restaurant, they can easily accommodate large groups. Great food, excellent drinks and top notch service, solid place for any occasion.

Breakfast Review: We only tried a couple of items, but overall came away impressed. My cheesy hash-brown loving wife ordered the American breakfast, which delivered exactly what she was hoping for. In fact, the scrambled eggs were practically hidden beneath a glorious dome of crispy hash browns.I went with the Eggs Benedict, and it was very tasty. Presentation-wise, it looked surprisingly light and summery, garnished with what I think was kale and a sprig of dill perched on top. Don't be fooled by appearances though. This was a rich, hearty dish. I'm a big guy and I couldn't finish it.Flavor-wise, the salmon, generous helping of capers, and dill made for a bold combination. While I enjoyed it, I found those flavors a bit overpowering for an Eggs Benedict. For me, this is already a naturally rich dish, and I look for a little lemony brightness in the hollandaise to balance everything out. Instead, this version leaned fully into the rich and savory side of the spectrum.A small note: if they aren't doing it already, rinsing the capers can help tame some of their intensity and keep them from dominating the dish.Even with that critique, the meal was satisfying, filling, and clearly made with care. I'd happily come back to try more of the menu.

A malbec with the Steak & Pierogies were wonderful. Service outstanding! Live music in the courtyard was good.

    Rotisserie Chicken (4.25/5)

I got the Rotisserie Chicken and was pleasantly suprised (4.25/5). The skin was super crispy, which I liked, and the meat itself was nice and tender. The mashed potatoes and corn were also good, and the broccoli was all right. The service was good (4/5). The ambiance was fun (4/5); they had notepads and pencils at the tables, which was fun and interesting.

When it's nice out, we adventure!! Came here after a Yelp event and was very happy with our choice. They have a wonderfully smooth brown ale on tap and it hits big time!! Food: we decided on the Brussels sprouts and they did not disappoint... cooked perfectly and the goat cheese and honey complimented everything perfectly. The bartender made us feel at home and even though she was busy, came back to check on us. Very nice inside and out, great patio if you can get a spot.

Freehouse has been a popular spot for many years. I had always heard mixed reviews but finally decided to give it a go. Made a reservation since I know they get busy. It took a while for someone to greet us, but we were finally seated. They had happy hour going on still so we ordered the chicken wings and a loaded mashed potatoes. This is where it went downhill.... The mashed potatoes tasted..... extra salty and sour? They had a cranberry sauce on them, which was odd. The chicken was covered in feathers and the piece that wasn't, when we bit into it, it was COMPLETELY frozen in the center. We returned the wings and did not order a new batch. For the entree we ordered the pesto chicken pasta and the chicken noodle soup. Those were essentially okay, but sooooooo salty. I don't quite understand the hype and will not go back.

The best bar service in the whole world is here extremely attentive and fast service love this bar so much. It is the best bar top you will find in the North Loop. My best friend likes to get the bourbon/old-fashioned here and I only drink espresso martinis.

Visited 12/27/25. After visiting, my sister and I agreed that we love Freehouse most for drinks, apps (like a happy hour kind of vibe), and brunch. On this occasion, we lucked out with street parking, but there's also ramp parking nearby. Our waitress was super accommodating to our group of 6 and consistently checked in throughout. Freehouse has such a fun vibe and I love the sheer amount of drink options they have. There's truly something for everyone. I got a cider while others in my group got beers and one person got a wine. I like that they include a combination of Freehouse beers + other rotating taps. For dinner, I got the rotisserie chicken sandwich, my sister got the cauliflower za'tar, and others in our party got the chimichurri short rib, the prime rib, and the steak and pierogies. We all ate our full plates and I'll give the best shout out to the house made chips. These were delicious and I would order them by themselves! With the sandwich for some reason the balance felt a little off and this happens with rotisserie chicken, but I got a few pieces of bone or something sharper while I was chewing which can be off-putting. Loved the jus that accompanied, but for some reason the sandwich wasn't as creamy or as flavorful as I thought it would be. The baguette is the best part. Would benefit from something a little sharper like a horseradish or mustard or something pickled to liven it up a bit. My sister felt similarly about her cauliflower dish. Overall, the Freehouse is still such a fun spot in a fun location. The apps themselves are wonderful and I regret not getting these. They also have a few all day breakfast options which I would also get, as I've always loved their breakfast.

We came here for a work dinner with colleagues and was wowed by the drinks and food. We were told the cauliflower app was to die for, and they weren't lying. It was perf toy crispy with a fantastic homemade dressing that was packing flavor. I had a few options for the server but told them to surprise me. My dish come out and it was the thai pork dish. Wowza! Flavor was amazing and the slaw and citrus was a perfect combo for the meat. Amazing spot!

I've been here a few times but had been a while. My date wanted to be on a patio and so I chose Freehouse. It was kind of busy but we walked in and got seated quickly. From there on out, nothing else went very well. Ordered some dry rub wings, oysters, buffalo cauliflower and a couple drinks. Both took a while to come out and the drinks didn't actually come out till after the food came out which is definitely a pet peeve of mine. The dry rub wings were grilled and I had no clue, so thats partly my fault, but I feel like grilled is usually listed on the menu. Oysters were fine but my date usually has them with Tabasco and they had none which was kind of odd. And then they forgot all about the cauliflower, we waited til he checked in on us to ask about it but by that time we were done with our food and didnt even want it anymore. Drinks were fine. Sadly a terrible experience at a place that I've been a few times before and usually enjoyed.

The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.

Relatively easy to find, though you do have to hunt a little bit, Flora Room sits behind a nondescript metal door leading down a short hallway to the entrance. Take a long moment to allow your eyes to adjust if you're coming before sunset; this space is DARK. It's also perfect. Once your "night vision" kicks in you're surrounded by a nice bar, numerous bistro-style tables and booths. Candles adorn the tables creating a nice, cozy place to settle in for drinks. Once seated in comfortable chairs at a table, we were quickly greeted and provided with menus. The cocktail selection is relatively "small" but really nicely varied. Prices seemed a tad steep but frankly, given the quality of the drinks I'd say quite worth it. I started out with the Evita, a nice flavorful gin-base cocktail topped with a nice egg white foam. Very tasty. My wife opted for the Tapaculo, with gin, mezcal, pineapple, banana and bitters over ice. Also quite good. There are also bites available from the associated restaurant I can't recall the name of mine but I can say it was delicious. Bread-like bites with a really tasty dipping sauce. To close out the visit I selected Palo, a smoked aged rum cocktail that was really nice and rich. My wife chose the Nahualito with rum, walnut, amontillado and white chocolate. All should be on your radar. Flora Room really fit the bill for a nice, intimate speakeasy-style spot to spend time. Dark and cozy. Savory cocktails and friendly service will stand out and make you want to return. I know we'll seek it out if we return to Minneapolis again. I hope so.
