We took the drive from Tucson on the historic 79/80 just as the sun was setting, and the spectacular drive combined with this meal made for two huge highlights of our vacation. The service was top-notch from start to finish. The owner was super helpful in guiding us through the menu, and our server, Jess, was fantastic--both were nice, helpful, and fun. We definitely ordered way too much but were thrilled to have plenty of leftovers! We had the loaded baked potato, ribs, wings, and a salad. My husband and I made the trip down to Florence to eat at Your Behind BBQ for an early dinner date night. For the time we arrived, it was busier than expected but we were able to grab one of the last available tables. We were brought some pork rinds to snack on while we looked over the menu. Since this was our first time at the restaurant, we decided to share the BBQ Platter to get a sample of not only all the meat but their sides as well. So this came with smoked chicken, smoked turkey, pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. The sides were mac & cheese, slaw, potato salad, beans, and cornbread. I was happy to see smoked chicken on their menu since most BBQ restaurants don't have that option. It was good, would get again. All the other meats were good also. Of the side dishes, I liked the beans, potato salad, and cornbread, so pretty much all of them. The portion was very large so there were plenty of leftovers. This place never disappoints!! Today I got the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The sandwich is huge and over flowing with pork. The fries are crispy but not too just enough to give them a nice crunch but the inside of the fry is soft with just the right amount of salt. Simple, charming BBQ spot with really friendly staff. The full-size ribs were the standout--tender with great flavor. The pulled brisket was also excellent, and the turkey was unique with thick slices and a rich, smoky taste. I liked that the meat is served dry so you can add your own sauce. This place is getting to be a regular on our "go-to" restaurant list. The food here at Behind BBQ is the best in the area. As it regards BBQ, we've tried a number of BBQ restaurants in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Phoenix and have found none that compare to the quality Behind BBQ puts in front of you. Had some Peach Sweet Chili wings last night; DELICIOUS!! Many people were choosing the pulled pork sliders last night due to it being "3rd Friday in Florence" but with so many choices inside on the in-house menu, I opted for something "a little deeper" than the $2 pork sliders. The girls that wait on our tables are attentive, thank you Grace and Jess. For our money, and we are willing to drive up to 75+ miles to get a good meal, you won't fine better BBQ within that range around us. read more

We were feeling BBQ so Yelp told us to come here. Reviews drew me in because apparently the Pork Rinds are extremely good here, and I can confirm that! They give you complimentary Crispy Pork Rinds, and these aren't any old rinds from a bag. They're hot and fresh, so you KNOW they are tasty and not stale. Who likes stale pork rinds?! Not me! This restaurant is a small family owned business located in the town of Florence. It's not a super busy area, nor is the restaurant itself huge, but locals know this is the place to come for some good BBQ! I got the Brisket Burger with a side of Potato Salad. They have 2 sauces on the table so you can help yourself to whichever one you want. I think one is spicy and the other is a regular bbq sauce. The burger was pretty filling and I was only able to eat half and doggy bagged the other half. It hit the spot and satisfied my craving, especially with the sauce on it. I ate all of the potato salad since it was THAT good. The wings were okay. Next time I'll try a dry rub like maybe the Chipotle Mango, which sounds yummy! Our server was great! She checked on us often, and even let me take a little pack of the pork rinds for later. They also sell them in bigger bags if you want more. We tried a new spot tonight, Birds and Bones, a BBQ, burger, and wing place, and I think we may have found our new favorite! From the moment we walked in, we got such a warm welcome and were told to grab any seat. As soon as we sat down, they brought out perfectly seasoned pork rinds, and that set the tone for the whole meal. We kicked things off with deep-fried pickles (amazing), and then ordered the big platter that comes with a little bit of everything. It did not disappoint! Our food was at the table before we even finished our appetizer, super impressive. I'm usually not a pulled-pork fan, but theirs absolutely won me over. It wasn't greasy at all, honestly the best I've had. Whatever they're smoking their meat with is different from most places, in the best possible way. And with all the trophy's around the restaurant, I should've known we were in for something special! The platter had so much variety and so much food that it easily fed our family of five, with plenty left to take home for sandwiches tomorrow. We were too full for dessert on the spot, but we grabbed a banana pudding to go, and yes... we opened it the second we got home. Delicious. The whole atmosphere was clean, cozy, and welcoming, TVs with sports, a beautiful patio, and a place you really feel like you could hang out. Side note: Our server was the absolute best!! The service was excellent and our waitress was so nice, but the food left a lot to be desired. First of all, the sides, which are just as important as the BBQ were sorely lacking in taste and flavor. The macaroni and cheese was obviously not homemade but rather from a box. The ribs weren't smoked very long either, because they barely had any smoke flavor. I think they were slow cooked in the oven because they literally fell off the bones, which as any BBQ aficianado knows, is a 'no-no' for ribs. This review is honest and hopefully, the owner sees it and makes improvements. Probably the best pulled pork sandwich I've had in the greater Phoenix area. This place is definitely worth the trip to Florence for barbecue. Not an overly large restaurant so seating is limited. Award-winning barbecue in the heart of downtown Florence. They have won so many nationwide barbecue competitions that the trophies and medals take up one side of the restaurant wall. We know this is a far drive for most of us in the Phoenix area, but it really isn't that bad and it's really worth the trip. The smoked turkey club was the best turkey sandwich I've ever had. Visited my friend in Arizona this past week and she recommended we try out this new BBQ place due to a few Instagram videos she had seen. I'll start off by saying it was an hour and 10 minute drive there, and a two hour drive back, but was absolutely worth it. This restaurant has only been open a few weeks, but you can tell it's a well-oiled machine. When we arrived, which was about 12:30PM on a Friday, all the tables were taken. There are 8 tables, all of which are 4 tops, but the wait wasn't long at all, not even 10 minutes. Its a lively little spot, but not loud, which is very much appreciated. There are pictures and accolades all over the walls, which makes the spot feel cozy and home-y. Every table comes with a bottle of house BBQ and spicy BBQ, both of which were delicious. They do have specials, and once they're gone, they're gone! So keep that in mind. They had brisket stuffed jalapeño poppers that I wanted to try so badly, but unfortunately were sold out, so get there early! When we sat down, we had Jess as our waitress who was PHENOMENAL. She was so patient, kind, joked around with us, and truly made an already great experience even better. We ended up ordering 6 garlic parm wings, 6 hot honey garlic (dry rub) wings, a brisket burger with bacon and fries, a mac and cheese side, and lastly their special strawberry cheesecake/cake dessert which was called the 'Jolene.' Straight out the gate they bring you free seasoned fresh pork rinds...yes, you read that right! Gone are the days of boring chips and salsa or bread! They were crunchy and so delicious that I physically had to stop myself from eating them so that I didn't get full before my meal. The smoked wings were perfection. They're definitely not your average wing when it comes to size, these are big! They're flash fried so they're nice and crispy, but still have the tender juciness from the smoking. The garlic parm weren't overwhelming, it was the perfect amount of sauce. And the hot honey garlic had a nice little zing, not overly spicy at all. The blue cheese was so good, if I wasn't already so full, I probably would've ordered another side of it to dip my fries in. I had never had a brisket burger so that was a first for me! Had a nice smoked flavor. I definitely recommend adding the bacon as the crispiness of the bacon complimented the tenderness of the brisket so well. I poured the house BBQ sauce on my burger which elevated the whole dish. The mac and cheese side was super creamy (even added a little of the spicy BBQ sauce to this, because it's so tasty!) Now, onto the dessert. I don't know what genius came up with this concept...but they deserve an award of some kind. The dish we had was a layer of cake on the bottom, with a layer of strawberry cheesecake above it, and then topped with whipped cream and strawberries. We loved this so much, we got another one to go! Unfortunately I believe this is a special, so I dont think it'll always be around. I'd recommend following their IG to see what specials they have going on. I think another element of this experience that made it so special, is that the owner was walking around, checking in on everyone, running food, cooking and even wiping down tables. I think it's incredibly admirable to see an owner take such pride in his business. It's so evident that he has a passion for both food and the community he serves. With everything we ordered, plus two soft drinks, and not including the second dessert we ordered, our total came out to around $65, which honestly felt like we were robbing the place! I would not have expected that low of a bill with the amount of food we got, the quality of the meat, and the excellent taste. It pains me to say I probably won't be back given the fact that I live in Florida, but I'm so glad I got to have this experience. This place has great reviews and their rep within the community down here in Florence sounded pretty on point, so we've been meaning to try it for a time now and just finally got around to it. Inside it's quaint, with super friendly servicers, owners and that small town vibe. Unfortunately the food was a miss for us. We ordered a cheese burger (actually a patty made from brisket), so yummy. It was only supposed to have cheese and bacon on it but came with the works. Not a big deal, but still. We also had the potato salad, which was good as were the fries which were still hot after a fifteen minute ride home. The main attraction of course were to be the brisket sandwiches. Sadly I found the brisket to be dry to the point of once I had finished off the bbq sauce that they provided on the side I headed over to my fridge to pull out the old Baby Ray's bbq sauce just to moisten it up. My wife also had the parmesan teriyaki wings which she was looking forward to as she sees pictures of them which they post all the time. They were super small, and were pretty flavorless according to her. She was so sad about them that yesterday we had to take her to Venezia's for some redemption wings. I am super sad that I can't give you a better review guys. For the prices though, and the hype that everybody else has for you we just expected better than average. This is a marvelous BBQ place. It's better than everything in the East valley by far. I had the pork sandwich and slaw the first time and loved both. The pork was tender and juicy, the bun was delicious, the slaw was perfect. Good sauces. The guy knows his meat and his hospitality. I went back again today and got the brisket sandwich and slaw and again was met with a fantastic meal. Brisket was so good. Loved it. This is my lunch place in Florence now. I'm scheduling all my Florence work on Wednesday through Friday. I've been eating these folks' BBQ for years on the competition circuit and am SO excited they finally put down some roots in a Brick and Mortar shop!!! The specialties here are in the name, Wings and Ribs... but there is SO much more to try. Homemade, fresh cooked Chicharrones, nachos so big they should be called "Machos", and some great BBQ sandwiches. Don't sleep on the burgers here, they are huge and made with brisket, not just burger. They offer up traditional BBQ sides like Mac & Cheese, BBQ Beans, Tater salad and coleslaw. They also have some non-traditional finds like the house-made Bacon Cheesecake Cannoli. YUM! There's a hotdog on the menu for that really picky kid we all have and a house salad for that one strange friend we aren't sure why we invited to a BBQ spot. At least the homemade dressings are fry-dip worthy. Restaurant is done up amazingly and they did a major transition from what was here before. You won't even recognize the place! Ya'll are crazy. We ordered the platter ($75) to get a taste of everything here, and this is how we would grade it... Mac n Cheese = they put crushed fritos on top? Weird not a fan. Turkey = 7/10 Brisket = 7/10 Pork n Beans = 6/10 Ribs = 10/10 these were pretty great and I guess that's what they're actually known for. Corn bread = 0/10 they put stupid jalapeño (not spicy) chunks in it. I hate that. Potato Salad = 0/10 but I hate macroni salad Chicken = 5/10 basic no flavor at all Pork = 5/10 basic no flavor at all Now this is a whole bunch of meat which is great but the portion sizes because of that are super small to the point where the meat fits inside a very small little cup. I personally wouldn't come back, but if you live in the heart of florence then I guess it's all you got.
