I've been in the area for five years and I've known about this place for the last few but never gone. A couple weeks ago on the way home and right before their closing time I drove by smelled the smoke and I had to stop. I went in and ordered what I could I got brisket sausage pulled pork and a couple other items of what they had left just moments before they closed. The food smelled good. The staff was absolutely friendly and accommodating. I wish i had gotten there sooner or had gone there before that night. It's the best in the area that I've had unless I'm taking the time to fire up one of my three smokers. What I got that night was a testament of the work that they do and the flavors they produce. First impressions mean everything and that night was a giant plus I'm glad that they're not far away. I actually may go back there tonight, hopefully earlier closing! read more

Ah, regrets. Gets me every time. If only we hadn't paid over $100 for flavorless, weird reheaty- compressed, over salty tasting ribs, very dry brisket, jarred pickles and bland, mushed potato salad. Sigh. Cole slaw was meh but did have a bit of unusual spicy flavor and it is responsible for the one star that this meal gets. Ironically it could have used some of the salt from the ribs. Stick with Caldwell County or little Miss barbecue for a good barbecue. It's worth the drive. read more

Wow! This place is great. We heard about Maddie Jo's online and decided to check it out. This is by far the best BBQ around here, Pecan Lake Caldwell BBQ has NOTHING on this food! I've lived in the San Tan area for about 5 years. I always drive by this place randomly but have never stopped. I was craving BBQ and decided I wanted to give this place a try. What a great idea it was. Best BBQ place in Arizona that I've tried. I showed up New Year's Day and was the first person there. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I tried the brisket, Pork and chicken. All of it was amazing but the brisket stood out. Cooked perfectly. The staff then advised me to try a corn bread waffle. I wasn't sure about this but it turns out it was delicious and is a staple of this place. I also had the banana pudding which was also wonderful. Nice place, great service and wonderful people. Smelled like a Barbeque joint. Potato salad looks and tastes homemade, and you'll love it if you like sweet pickles. Pinto beans had good flavor and would be perfect if they cooked another couple of hours. The pulled pork sandwich was a hit. I went for the burnt ends which were unique. Apparently they roast them in sugar, yes mounds of sugar and I'm still trying to understand why. The order was to go, and I'm glad it was because they were inedible. No beef or smoke flavor just sticky sweet and occasional fat. Sorry, because I really wanted to like them. Also they have a cornbread waffle that people were quite taken with and said it was very tasty. I'll be back to try the smoked chicken and ribs. Had high hopes coming in -- I love supporting local spots. I can say the BBQ was amazing, definitely the highlight of the meal. That said, a few things really stood out in a negative way. The owners seemed frustrated at each other, and it showed -- the tension was obvious and made the atmosphere uncomfortable. The mac and cheese was watery and just not good. The waffle had potential, but it wasn't mixed all the way, so I ended up with raw cornmeal bits in my mouth, which was pretty unpleasant. Based on our (two people) first visit here, I recommend Maddie Jo's! It is a relatively new restaurant run by a friendly couple who really know their meats. Everything we had was good, and we will be trying other things on the menu. The Wi-Fi did not work for us, but aside from that minor thing, all was good. There is more parking available off to the side. I came in for the second time. I really enjoy the food here. And it's close to home. And you won't find friendlier service. Kristina and Philip are husband and wife team who own this restaurant and go out of their way to make sure you are having a good experience. I had the pulled pork and a side of potato salad. They both were good. I have to remember to go in on Friday or Saturday to try the brisket. They only serve it on those days. The place is spotless. The food is served in a paper dish, and they use plastic utensils. The meat is so tender that this is not a problem.
