I find the employees to be friendly and welcoming. The meats are excellent and the butchers have always preformed any special request I might have like custom thick steaks or removal of the membrane on a rack of ribs. Prices are typically equal to national corporate chains or on many items lower. I have not purchased sandwiches, fried chicken or other prepared foods, so I can not comment on that aspect. While they do not have self checkout the number of open stationed aisles makes for nominal checkout lines. My experience seems to differ greatly than that of some others as I am glad that Stater Bros is an alternative to corporate giants.
