Paella anyone? I bet you haven't heard that in a while. And…read morehonestly, who knew it was such a Portuguese thing too? We all know Spain made it famous, but Portugal? INSANE. Back to why I do this. I'm endlessly curious about food, people, and the magic that happens when great meals meet good music. Friendships just seem to evolve naturally around a table. And thank you, E, for another incredible photo -- your choices are always perfect. Mercado on St. Clair is a hidden gem. What was once beside my mom's flower shop downtown has now found a home in a slightly more industrial setting on Caledonia -- and somehow, it works perfectly. Cozy seating inside, a great covered patio outside, and that village-style European restaurant vibe you hope to stumble across. First off, the waiter was phenomenal. He walked us through the menu, explained everything perfectly, and genuinely elevated the whole experience. The menu is massive -- meat, seafood, everything you could want -- but we came for the paella. We were told it takes time because they make it the proper way. Not overly crispy, just authentic, rich, and layered with flavour. Worth every minute of the wait. To start, we had the gambas / shrimp in a rich red garlic and herb sauce plus extra toasted bread for dipping, per our waiter's recommendation. Absolute rockstar move. The other appetizer was a delicious beef stew served over crunchy rustic bread. Simple, hearty, and top notch. Now... drum roll please. This may have been the best paella I've ever had. Okay okay, maybe somewhere along the coast in Spain I've had one fresher... but this was absolutely off the charts. Zero fishy smell. Just beautiful saffron-infused rice with that perfect slight crisp, loaded with mussels, clams, octopus, calamari, shrimp, and more. Built for two people to share and completely unforgettable. A few glasses of house white later and bam - there was absolutely no chance I was going back to work. And dessert? I kept telling myself: "No dessert, Frank. No dessert." But there's a rule in life ; if you see crème brûlée on a menu, you order it. This wasn't exactly crème brûlée, but a cheesecake-inspired version of it. Two spoons, four bites, and thank you very much. Favourite meal of the year so far. Completely blown away by this place. Mercatto -- go now. Go fast.

The grilled platter (Kamayan) served on banana leaves was very eye-catching and made the whole meal feel extra special. There was a nice variety of seafood, meat, rice, and vegetables, so every bite felt a little different. I liked the grilled flavors the most. Everything felt hearty, savory, and perfect for sharing. I also enjoyed seeing the food display at the counter because it made the place feel lively and full of character. It gave me the feeling that this is the kind of restaurant where you come hungry and leave very satisfied. The atmosphere was casual and busy in a good way, with a very down-to-earth and welcoming vibe. It may not be fancy, but it felt warm, authentic, and full of energy, which honestly made the lunch even more memorable. I had a nice time here and would definitely come back when I'm craving a satisfying Filipino meal.

The flavor of everything was really good and everything was nicely grilled. We chose to get the milkfish which was a bit too salty for me. The garlic rice was nice and complements everything well. The halo halo was pretty good too though I didn't like the peanuts and beans in it.

It's literally the pre-cooked chicken I can get at the deli department at no frills! Super confused on why such a nice place can't get fresh chicken. 4.5 rounding up to 5…read more My sister treated me to lunch on an early Sunday afternoon. We met in the ample parking lot although the entrance might be easy to miss coming south on Dufferin since it's a bit of a weird angle. I was glad when we left to see that you can come and go on a side street that has a traffic light intersection cuz Dufferin is busy and it's a pain to get out on a left turn. I waited about a minute for a host to come to the entrance and assist with seating. I was struck by the absolute lack of seafood smell coming in. The restaurant is very large and has many types of seating options from smaller tables to larger tables to booths and more than one room. Very clean and quiet. I paused to check out the live samples in their aquarium. The bathrooms have a gender neutral option in addition to the traditional ones. I was led to one of the tables not too far from the kitchen and asked if we could have one of the window booths. No problem. I did have to ask for water upon being seated and none was offered to my sister for most of the meal. We finally managed to get her a glass after waving down our server. Other than that no problems with our orders. I opted for the build your own combo with bay scallops, fettuccine Alfredo and green beans. I was so glad to see that the green beans were bright and crisp, not overcooked and soggy. The scallops arrived in a plentiful dish of garlic butter, and the pasta was a good sized portion. Also a nice surprise was the improved cheddar biscuits. They arrived hot, soft and full of savory flavour. My sister was equally happy with her entree of salmon and fries. It isn't cheap, but it's nice enough value. We also split a chocolate wave dessert which was lovely. It comes with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, and the chocolate sauce was nice and warm. Yum! We had our coffee cups refilled to ensure full enjoyment with the dessert. The restaurant also has little tabletop computers which you can use to view the menu, play games, and perhaps best of all, pay your bill at your leisure without having to wait on your server coming back to bring the machine to you. All in all a great revisit to this chain. Traffic notwithstanding a great location. Large, clean and comfortable. Definitely would come back.

The entire staff is pleasant and genial, and the food is consistently good. The shape of the restaurant can be a little bit awkward. The first time I was here, I sat toward the back of the restaurant, which felt a little bit narrow. The second time, I was near the front, which was much more typical. Both times I've been here, I've been completely full. This place stands out among Italian places in that it serves quality ingredients, but actually gives you enough to be satisfied. Looks like they've added some tasting menus... I'll have to be back to try them!

Parked the beast outside, and walked like one leg was shorter than the other into the restaurant. This was an ethnic restaurant, comprised of Jamaicans and Trinis. We met up with a higher ranking manager at our organisation, and sat together to exchanges company gossip over some beer. I never had ox tail before, and my friends highly recommended the dish to me here. Ox tail with rice it is! I felt no intimidation here, in fact, I think the locals felt more intimidated by me. I was afterall the biggest guy here, but the scare is just beginning. The place is super casual, not an ounce of needless..ness. The waitress/bartender was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. My food came. Oh my God, the food looked so simple, and it was damn good. This was ox tail? YUM! I cleaned the plate in less than five minutes, my friends were looking at me like they've just witnessed a human sacrifice. I ordered another meal of the curry chicken. The waitress couldn't contain her laughter, and padded me on the shoulder as if she was giving her baby boy the Huggie's "that's a big boy now" gesture. nom nom nom nom nom. The chicken was a bit dry, but the potatoes were pretty decent. Two plates down, and people in the restaurant thought they were looking at an exhibition at the Zoo. They've never seen a Chinese Maan devour so much food in such an barbaric manner. A gentleman actually approached me from his bar stool to congratulate me on my ferocious appetite, and high fived me. Hey! Didn't anyone ever tell you not to pet the exhibits?! lol... I was so full, I was barely able to climb back into the truck.

There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Blackened Lamb Chops (weekly special). 7. New Orleans Fisherman's Plate ($39.95). 8. Pecan Pie warmed with Ice Cream ($14.95). 9. Bananas Foster ($14.95). 10. Beignet ($14.95). Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037
