Yuan's Hot Pot is located in the Aberdeen Mall so plenty of free parking which is always a plus. It is clean with high ceilings and pretty good ventilation which is needed as...we are doing hot pot. We went with 1/2 soup base and 1/2 extra spicy. And the extra spicy is definitely spicy...no need to add any dipping sauces with that base. Ordered a variety of proteins and vegetables. I liked that most of the items were on skewers which made getting it out of the base much easier. I did find the beef overly salted. And I really enjoyed the corn on the cob. Service was great and definitely needed a shower and a change of clothes after dinner. They were having a buy one get one free anniversary promotion. My wife and I came here to try out the couples special which included 35 skewers, noodles, drinks, and sauces and ended up absolutely loving the experience. It was our first time having a hotpot with skewers and it was great. This allowed us to order a wide variety of different ingredients in smaller quantities which lead to trying things like pumpkin and different meats in our hotpot. I love going to this hotpot place because of their skewers. It's easy to only order what you want so you're not forced to have an entire plate of something if you only want a little bit. Their sauce bar was clean and the ingredients seemed fresh, which isn't always the case. Servers refilled the broth fairly regularly and they were quick to take away any finished dishes. It's a bit hot in Aberdeen in general and this restaurant wasn't much better. A wonderful experience! Most tables are comfortable booths and several have floor-to-ceiling views of either the mall courtyard or neighboring street. Servers are professional, knowledgeable, quick to offer advice and discuss options in either English or Mandarin. The soup base is great (both the spicy and not spicy options) and they were good about refills. The dipping sauce was amazing (you can mix your own or they will do it for you if you ask). Everything was clean and prepared fast. The flavors were rich and diverse. The skewers are an awesome touch and make cooking and transferring easier than at most hotpot restaurants. Our favorites were the beef, lamb, black mushrooms, corn, taro, and bean curd, and side of fried rice. Still, there were tons of choices for every person's taste. Koodos as this is the most ventilated and chilled hot pot restaurant in America I've been to. Service was excellent in both fluent English and Mandarin. Very attentive staff who deliver and explain in a timely manner. Food was super fresh and much of it was frozen which is a norm for northern style hot pot. Landmark Hot Pot is more "fresh" in the sense it's rarely frozen solid, and higher quality in base soup and premium soups. Yuans hot pot base comes from a packet. I came to visit Vancouver from Seattle for the weekend for my birthday and casually ended up at this restaurant upon arriving somewhat late and craving hot pot. I was so blown away by the food here that I literally cancelled my upscale/formal birthday dinner in downtown the next night to eat here again because I knew I would regret not eating here again before leaving. First off, almost all hot pot places only have pork-based broth, but this place had chicken broth and veggie broth substitutions (which is perfect since my boyfriend doesn't eat pork). Second, the restaurant provides aprons and covers for your jackets because (as all hot pot lovers know) the soup can splash/get all over your clothes. Third, the food was INSANE, from pricing to quality, this is a one million out of ten recommend. You can also order "skewers" of food so if you want something but don't want to pay for an absurd amount of it, this is the perfect way to order just enough of each side/addition. Lastly, the service was unmatched. All of the servers were clearly attentive and helpful, but the manager...he was next level. It has a nice crispy outside while the chicken is tender and juicy. I would also dip the pork crisp in the hot pot. I suggest you to not order the spinach because it really is a few spinach leaves skewered. You will laugh if you see it. Hot pot and skewers are on the list of my top 10 food items, and now they have been combined into one (((mind blown))) If this is your first time here, ask one of the servers to explain the process and make recommendation on how much to order. When you sit down you are given a order sheet where you can choose your soup base, skewers and additional items. We picked the double option with the non spicy and spicy broth. You can also pick whether you want seafood flavour in the broth or not. Just a warning that the level of spice is high and the regular spicy is plenty spicy for someone who does not have a high spice tolerant. I would highly recommend picking the $2.95 dipping sauce mixing bar option. You get to mix all kinds of goodies like garlic, coriander, green onion and chili into the sesame oil (which comes in an individual serving can - how cool!) my recommendation is garlic, green onion, coriander and a little bit of chili with sugar and oyster sauce - YUM! Similar to most hot pot restaurants, you get to order all types of meat and veggies. My favourite was the bamboo shoot, quail eggs, and the wings! This place has TONS of vegetarian options from different types of veggies, mushrooms and tofu so it's very accommodating to most diets! One more thing, all the drink options are so cheap here! Pop is less than $2 and most beers under $4 - great way to quench that hot pot thirst! The quality of the meat is fantastic and the service is prompt as it is a worldwide chain. Always up for the next big hot pot opportunity, I gladly came by to try this new place right as it opened. Parking is plentiful in the Aberdeen Centre parking lot. The location is actually a bit tricky to find as it's at the end of the mall, out of sight of the main atrium. The interior is (obviously) brand new, and and reminds me of a modern Asian-style living room. Nice trim and decor, but otherwise "clean" other than a few pieces of artwork on the walls. Very classy. I had a chance to meet the owner and head chef. Both are definitely from China, which makes this place the real deal. One nice touch is that the staff offer aprons to the guests here. Definitely useful, as many have learned after trying to wash off spicy soup stains. Another special mention goes to the dipping sauce, with their nice portions of oil and garlic. The ingredients are very fresh, and among the best I've had locally. The spot prawns were already dead, but very few places do the live ones. We had so many skewers and other goodies I couldn't keep track. Beef, enoki, squid, quail eggs, beef balls, pork, mushrooms, pig intestine, lotus roots, and who knows what else. Variety is beautiful. The soup broth is nice and light, with plenty of fresh ingredients. Another special mention goes to their watermelon juice. This is made from the real thing. The dishes kept coming, and we all gorged ourselves. The quality was there but this place is not cheap. Maybe I'm just used to the AYCE variety, but this is quite a premium over the competition. Great Sichuan style hotpot, your order the meats, veggies and other type of hot pot items on a stick, you can either pick per stick or a order of 5 sticks. We over ordered and the manager actually came over and told us that he thinks we are ordering too much for three ppl and he took the liberty and reduced some orders' quantities. My friends and I recently visited Yuan's China Chuan Xiang for dinner and we had very good experience there. This is a place where you are eating hotpot but instead of putting everything in the pot you actually have the meat and other vegetables on a skewer stick and put the stick into the pot to be cooked. They have a sauce bar where you could mix your own sauce as you desire. Given that taste of food is a very personal thing I think I'll just say that we liked the food there. A pretty cool hot pot place that is based with using skewers and also traditional plated items. This place is located on the second floor of Aberdeen Mall. The interior is quite spacious and has a modern feel to it. They also have lots of spicy items that are on the skewers. They give you a tablet to order what you want. Its also nice as there are pictures of the items. The skewers generally are $0.90 (CAD) each, but keep in mind that the portion size is small. If you want spicy broth, they have this special pouch of spicy liquids that they empty into your broth. They also have a sauce station or you can opt out and let them prepare it for you (which we did). The special part about the sauce is that it comes in a little can that you often and pour and mix with the toppings. This new and hot (pun-intended) hot pot place is the authentic darling of the town, even in our "unofficial Chinatown" Richmond, where it's saturated with all sorts of a la carte and all-you-can-eat hot pot places. I've tried Yuan's Chuan Chuan Xiang Hot Pot EST 1995 when I was visiting Chengdu, and upon dining at this place I've transported back...everything seems to be almost exactly what I remembered: from the bamboo chopsticks, to spicy pepper powder, to the fragrant and mouth-watering broth. The subtle, or rather significant differences among the start-up or history hot pot houses are in the broth. At Yuan, the secret is its special sauce that comes in a package, which is imported from Chengdu to here, scissored-open in front of you and squeezed into the pork-bone base. It is composed of Sichuan Canola oil, butter, fermented bean paste, dried pepper, ginger, garlic, green onions, all simmered into a paste along with cane sugar, start anise, long-an skin, fennel etc over hours of medium heat. You can definitely smell the layers of flavors that build on to of each other. Most of the signature dishes are skewered onto thin bamboo sticks and you would place them into the pot all together to boil. I'd highly recommend the house-marinated beef and ribs, but I'd caution that they are authentically spicy and salty. Which brings me to another point - please expect the food to be salty - as they are originally in Chengdu...perhaps the owner might tone it down to better accommodate our tamer taste buds. The wood-ear mushroom are flown from Chengdu, and so are all the marinates, as well as the spicy pepper powder - all sourced and made in the Chengdu way. The owner apologizes for the pot that slowly comes to a boil and is looking to replace the stoves or the pots soon...which is a torture because I waited forever for my food to be cooked. Yuan's Chuan Chuan Xiang comes straight out of China with its first international location. In fact, the decor, including chairs, came from China to match the locations there. Even the sauces and marinades are the same. Authenticity is the goal here! There are a couple of differences when compared to other local hot pot places. You can get skewers to dip in the hot pot. Skewers you ask? Mother fukkin skewers I answer! The numbing meat was delicious but I didn't really feel the numbing effect. Perhaps I'm already comfortably numb. We ordered a metric shit-tonne of food so I can't really go through it all. It was all pretty awesome. The other unique aspect is the dipping bowl/"sauce" which you dip your cooked food into. It's more like a mash of garlic, green onion, and a bunch of other stuff. Oh ya it's on. At first I didn't find the hot pot too spicy or salty (it's spicy, I just don't think it was too spicy) but towards the end of the meal I found the saltiness factor cranked up. The spicy soup was really authentic Sichuan style hot and the non-spicy soup was very tasty with the strong flavor. I love the non-spicy soup so much even though spicy is my favorite. The prices the food were not so expensive. Since the restaurant just opened few month ago, the environment was quite of clean. After the first time, we decided to come back again. After half year, my friend and I went back to Yuan's Chuan Chuan Xiang again. We had non-spicy soup this time, which was cheaper than double flavor soup base. Since we had three people this time, we ordered more food Food still tasted like before, but we had to pay for the dipping sauce. This is probably one of my new go to for hot pot places. The skewers and beef that they provide is very good quality. I really like the home made seasame oil that they provided you with in the can. Those are reallly good and you mix it with the sauces. It taste excellent along with the beef and other dishes. This is a really unique way of hot pot with skewers. It is not too pricey compared to other hot pot places. It's roughly around $35 per person and left with a full stomach. Their original house soup base is perfectly flavoured and addicting. This restaurant met and exceeded my expectations! I'm a big fan of all food skewered from kebabs to yakitori, so I was very excited to try this place out. It's brightly lit with lots of open seating available. They have booth tables & round tables - all great options for sharing family style hot pot. You can select the soup base from several choices. We decided to try the half-half: the pot is divided in half, one side is spicy, and the other side has regular broth. The spicy seasoning comes prepackaged by the restaurant chain to ensure consistent taste with the original recipe. The skewers can be ordered individually or by serving (5 skewers/serving). There are so many options for what to order: vegetables, tofu, seafood, mushrooms, meat, etc. Each skewer is the same price whether it's a nice cut of beef or a couple slices of potatoes, so a good tip is to order the meat/seafood choices first before filling up from the veggies (especially starchy ones like sweet potato & taro).
