Great experience and super authentic! I'm from the states, so rule of thumb is if all the customers match the ethnicity of the restaurant you know it's going to be 100% on point. Plenty of selection for meats and veggies. Pretty clean place too, chill vibe, not super fancy inside but the authenticity is definitely there. Cozy seating areas as well. All the broths and meats choices were amazing and everything came super fast. Our friends recommended this place as would definitely recommend to anyone else visiting.

First time here was on October 8, 2022. I was here with a group of 9, reserved in advance by calling them (their website shows a menu and online ordering for takeout, but no table reservation option). I went again later with my fiance (just the two of us) without a reservation on a Friday night at 7pm, no problems getting seated at all. First time here - great service. They didn't charge a service charge even with a reservation for 9 (via phone) - which is unheard of for most restaurants. Overall, for 9 people, it came out to $58.44/person (USD) after tax and tip. Food: Insanity. One of the best meals of my life. Great quality hotpot, not much to complain about. Ambience: it's a Chinese (Mandarin) music playlist. This is a Chinese restaurant. What did you honestly expect? From my second visit (Feb 2024) - promptly seated, 2 people, no reservation. Parking lot is attached to the plaza that garden city hot pot is in. The actual restaurant is on the first floor - go through the double doors in the attached parking lot, it's on the right. Parking lot itself has narrow spots - if you're driving an SUV or sedan it's fine, but a bigger minivan or pickup truck may struggle. There is street parking across the street from the plaza - and even on a Friday (I went again with two people, no reservation), it's not that busy (this surprised me - every hotpot place in Burnaby was full until 11pm). For two people it was $144 CAD after tax and tip. I'm so full leaving that I'm almost delirious. The meat quality is so good!

Excellent service, transparent pricing, delicious seafood porridge base soup hotpot! The four varieties of meatballs is my favorite, but the crisp carp is a disappointment.

Really good restaurant! Refresh and decent! We came from California and it was in our list. It won't let you down.

One of the original "Hot Pot" restaurant in Richmond, before the Hot Pot craze started to spread throughout the Greater Vancouver Region! Garden City Hot Pot is Hong Kong / Cantonese Style Hot Pot that is different from the late comer to Vancouver i.e. Szechuan Style ( which is predominantly spicy and heavily uses the Szechuan Peppercorn for the numbing sensation ). I have been here for over 15 yrs. but never given the restaurant a review, since I am more active with Yelp now, I thought its time! First off, service here is always great, especially when you compare it to other Chinese Restaurants, our favourite Server, Carol has been here for ages, and we are always happy to see her, together with Quincy & Gary all the familiar faces! Dim Sum is freshly steamed after your put in your order, so as to ensure freshness, another favourite is their Congee Hot Pot, this is unique to this restaurant as you get to cook your own congee right at your table! Their latest Congee Hot Pot is the HK Style Sampan Congee, it comes with Scallops, Prawns, Boneless Fish Fillets, Geoduck, Pork Rind, Minced Beef with Vermicelli, Sliced Lettuce etc. This whole order is actually enough for 4 people! I also have to mention that their Hot Pot is also very outstanding especially with all the fresh seafood on the menu and my personal favourite is their house made meat balls! ( they have beef, pork, shrimp, octopus etc. ). So if you want something different other then just plain Dim Sum, try Garden City Hot Pot to expand your choices!

There is nothing better than fantastic hot pot after a day in the frigid cold. I recommend the simple chicken broth for the soup as it just tastes more and more flavorful as you cook it down and cook all your food in it. It held up a lot better than the thousand egg and parsley soup we had on the other side. Before the food comes, they come around with a cart and ask you how you want your sauce. I like soy with the peanut sauce, the spicy sauce, sliced green hot peppers, minced ginger, a bit of minced garlic, and cilantro. The geoduck here is just fresh as could be, perfect in my opinion raw eaten like sushi with just a dab of wasabi but can also be cooked. It's crazy expensive though. They'll cook the head of it in a green onion and garlic fry which is just luscious and perfectly fried and divine truly. The oysters were juicy and really divine. The fatty beef is out of this world, among the best beef I've ever had. Love the fish stuffed fried tofu which is just packed with umami goodness. Watercress and vermicelli are great to add freshness and soak up the delicious soup broth towards the end. The only things I would skip are the tilapia which wasn't that great last time and the fatty pork which is just tasteless. For complimentary drinks you can't go wrong with the sweetened chrysanthemum tea either hot or cold, as well as the more vinegary plum juice.

The name of the restaurant maybe confuse a lot of people. They not only have hotpot but they also have pretty good dim sum and congee. I strongly recommend their pork bun and congee. Bring at least 4 people so you can share the deluxe seafood congee(it's such a good deal) the pork bun looked but it tasted so good. The outside was slightly sweet like a dessert but the filling was meaty and creamy pork.

We are so happy to have found this awesome hot pot/dim sum restaurant in Richmond! I was hesitant about going somewhere that didn't specialize in a certain thing, but this place does both really well. We arrived around 2pm which was an hour from their afternoon break at 3pm. I think they give you a 10% discount or something because somehow we got a discount! Anyway, we ordered four dishes off the dim sum menu: shrimp dumpling, siu mai, pork ribs and the rice roll. The siu mai was really huge but really delicious. The rice roll was also pretty tasty with the dipping sauce they give you. Hot pot was really the stand out here - their sauces are delicious and they make it for you too! Get everything in it even with the cilantro and green onions. We got half chicken broth and half Szechuan spicy broth. The chicken broth was plain but good. The Szechuan broth was quite numbing and I only tried a few bites. The prices seem really high at first, but they're fairly huge portions! We ordered fish balls, bean curd, two plates of meat (beef and pork), Japanese udon and a combo plate of two vegetables. It was definitely more than enough for four people. I think the total was about $30 Canadian dollars in the end which was a pretty great deal for all the food we ate. Service was also really quick and helpful too. Luckily I read Chinese so I can order from their dim sum menu, you'll need to ask for help if you're a non-Chinese reader and want to order dim sum.

Food is always fresh, and friendly service Will 100% recommend. They have great congee hot pot for lunch and seafood hotpot for dinner. Always the fine option

Too bad we went for the hot pot and not the dim sum. The whole experience was disappointing. First of all, there is a mandatory tea charge regardless if you drink tea or not. They have a wide variety of high quality teas, and the tea charge is higher than what you usually find at a Chinese restaurant. Sadly, their wide variety did not include de-caffeinated tea. The staff does not speak English well, which also seemed to be a barrier at times. I'm Japanese and my Chinese travel companion does not speak any of the Chinese dialects, so communication was strained. The waitress seemed annoyed that we asked for the hot pot menu, that was after the 5 minutes it took to try to communicate to her that we wanted hot pot and not dim sum. Once we got the hot pot menu, we had sticker shock. Everything was incredibly expensive. Maybe we are just used to the usual prices and places we have in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles. They did have a nice variety of different meats and vegetables. I liked the different levels of spicy that you could choose from. Unfortunately after we received our food, the wait staff basically disappeared. We did have a nice intimate booth in the corner, but several times we needed to chase down the waitress or other wait staff for assistance. After quite a while, we were gladly able to leave this place with no intentions to ever return.

There is another hot pot restaurant in Richmond. It located on Garden City and McKim Way almost for a decade. I had really BAD experience with my friends and family when we ate here. They ALL got credit card info stolen, therefore, we didn't return for last couple years! My colleagues suggested to go there for lunch and I didn't mind to give them a try. In addition, we agree to pay in CASH instead of credit card and it should be safe. They served tea per cup per person, you can pick the tea leaf and enjoy your own flavour. Check out the picture of chrysanthemum and black tea. The dim sims were pretty good and congee was excellent. Steamed radish cake - a lot of radish and tasty Pot of fish congee - live fish in boiling hot congee, it tasted very fresh. Stuffed egg plants and tofu with shrimp paste - it's huge the sauce was a bit salty. Steamed shrimp dumping - Pretty standard Steamed Chiu Chow style dumpling - the skin was so thick and sticky. Deep fried Squid legs - So crispy and delicious Steamed pork dumpling - Fatty pork and juicy

We like this hot pot place so much and everytime we visit we order a lot (recommend premium beef and fresh sea cucumber) so averagely each time it costs us $50 per person after taxes and tips. The servers are nice and attentive. They also have very good chrysanthemum tea, complimentary.

Dim sum was ok. Hot pot was much better. Good selection. But a bit pricey. Party of 4 adults and 1 child was $200 for lunch.

May be it's because we are all in "food coma" by the end of dinner! This visit was for dinner - and we were outside the door waiting even before they opened at 5:30. On a Tuesday. And we were already second in line. Celebrating a birthday, we had cold jellyfish starter, lobster fried e-fu mein, braised pomelo skin with seafood, and beef fried kai lan. The lobster was perfectly cooked. Even slight over-cooking can make the lobster meat tough. However, every piece was perfectly cooked. Including the large claws. Cooked with ginger and scallions, the lobster gravy coated each strand of e-fu noodles to umami yumminess. The braised pomelo skin was a special seasonal dish. I have not had this dish in many decades, and when I saw this in the special seasonal menu, I had to get it. The bittersweet braised pomelo skin complemented perfectly the fresh seafood, and topped a bed of Chinese spinach. It was the first time for the other members of my family and they literally sucked it all down. The beef with kai lan was another standout. Beef slices were tender and delicious and that perfectly complemented the well seared gai lan - great evidence of wok hei. Service is exemplary. Not just for a Chinese restaurant, but for any restaurant. The servers are constantly on the alert, and Everytime they see a plate filled with lobster shells, they would whip it away and replace it with a clean plate. They made sure that tea cups were filled and kept us updated with the delivery of the next dish. And at the end of the meal, dessert (Tong Shui) was complimentary... and they added a wonderfully light and flaky walnut cookie and piece of mochi for each of us.

Portion sizes and price point felt standard for Richmond. I thought it was cute that they also put the teapots on a candle stand to keep it warm. We booked a reservation for 12:45pm, but because of the overwhelming weekend rush, we were not sat until 1:30pm. I understand that the restaurant was quite busy, but it certainly made the experience a little less enjoyable. There were also lots of people waiting in the area and the hostess found it hard to identify which groups were waiting and which had already checked in. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.

We ordered a variety of dishes to share and most of them arrived promptly. However, I felt a bit disappointed as most of the dishes seemed to be less flavourful than other places I've been to. The fried tofu wasn't seasoned very much and the congee didn't even have any green onion garnish or pepper/salt given on the side. The bean curd dish was weak as the bean curd on the outside seemed to be overcooked or not wrapped as tightly so it was peeling off in the dish (no pic as it arrived late to the table!). For the siu mai, I felt like the size and texture was not as good as my usual place. I did like the oval shaped egg tarts as they weren't too sweet and very fragrant as well as the rice roll with delicious smooth beef filling inside. Service was overall prompt and standard. The skin is a nice crunch and the meat is juicy, what more could you ask for? I still salivate and dream of the meat here and I wish we had something like this back in LA cause I don't know who else would make soy chicken as good as here. Cash only so come prepared! If you're a US tourist, they take USD as well but canadian is still the better deal.
