Yuan's dumping house has a limited menu. Between the gyozo and Boa there's only 3 fillings. What makes this worse is you have to buys a family sized order. There's no variety offering and even if you want an egg roll you have to buy 4. The restrictions are disappointing. The dining area is kind of crappy. You sit at these wooden desks and chairs like at school. There's little to nothing on the walls and the only sound you here is banter from the kitchen. Here's a tip Yuan, add some music for the background maybe some Asian inspired instrumental music would help with the lack of decor. The service is okay, it's a small family business, Dad and Daughter. They were very nice. The kitchen guys running food to tables is a bit weird. I got pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings and they were okay, I wanted to try the bao and egg roll but since you can only get a family sized portion being 1 diner here doesn't allow you to try a variety without having tons of leftovers. The Bibimbap was also okay yet the portion looks small it's enough to fill the belly. My observation is this place is good if you go with a group so you can split the dumplings and other items and have a fun Asian experience. I suggest to owner spruce up the dining room perhaps offer a variety plate of appetizers and maybe add a coupe more entrees. Edible but uninspiring. read more

Yuan's was one of the first places I tried when I moved to Los Alamos. It has always been a great place to grab a bite. They have a limited menu, but everything is great. I usually get the fried rice of Lo mein. Today I got Lo mein with shrimp. My guest had beef soup. We also started with dumplings and finish with red bean. The service is always super friendly and quick. It's usually packed for lunch, but seating is more available in the evening. They also do to go orders as well. The restaurant is tucked behind the Bradbury Museum and kind of out of sight. This is in downtown Los Alamos and close to everything else to include Ashely Pond. If seating isn't available, it's an easy walk for a picnic at the pond. I absolutely recommend Yuan's. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but not the biggest fan. The food was too salty/bland, but I also didn't get what they are probably known for. They have a small menu and I don't believe they serve everything that is shown on Yelp anymore. It is popular though and the Thai tea they serve is good; not enough to come back tho. read more

A delicious lunch stop located next to the Bradbury Museum. Staff were very friendly and attentive, our meal tasted good, and portions were good (family style portions). We especially liked the fried rice with shrimp, the mixture was very fresh. Steamed dumplings were a bit soggy and wet, but the fried dumplings had a great balance of crisp. What a surprise to find such a tasty Chinese restaurant for this city slicker from Seattle. All ingredients were so fresh. Spring rolls were made to order. Vegetarian buns were perfection. Noodles were prepared just right though slightly salty for my taste. We even purchase take out for a ball game that night. Only thing To change is include more dipping sauce for the spring rolls and maybe add mint to the rolls for added flavor. Oh the staff were super friendly. So so good! This place is honestly a hidden gem! We came here in a snowy day on accident and we don't regret it at ALL! I've been dreaming of the food since. The beef and cabbage dumplings were soooo good! Great taste, large size, just perfect all around. I got the beef noodle soup (with homemade noodles, YUM), and my husband got the chicken fried rice also sooo good! They were both huge servings for the price which is always nice. Would I get the beef noodle soup again, maybe not. It was just too much food for me and the most expensive thing on the menu ($10.99). And honestly, I only wouldn't get it again because I want to try other things. My husband and I would definitely get the fried rice again. It was under 9 dollars and a vert large portion. The restaurant itself is a little small, but you can order take out if you can't find room or can't wait for a table. We were so happy to find this restaurant in Los Alamos! The food was fresh and delicious. I had the vegetable fresh rolls that were the best I've ever had and the pad Thai with tofu which was good. My husband had the fried egg rolls (I tried one and liked it too) and the chicken fried rice which he enjoyed. The service was excellent, as were the prices, and there was an option to eat indoors or outside. It is a totally peanut free restaurant. We highly recommend Yuan's. read more

In summary: 10/10 would recommend this place for a fast and healthy meal. Look to spend about $10-15/person which is pretty normal in the current economy at the time of this review. This place is about as authentic as it gets. I ordered the #8 bibimbap for the first time here and im not disappointed at all. Not greasy at all and did not leave me bloated or uncomfortably stuffed. Just the right amount as far as portion goes. Presentation was also pretty, you can really tell this restaurant takes pride in their product. The jasmine honey tea is a MUST try, I literally had to buy a couple to go because I was so in love with it. The staff was very friendly and helpful when ordering. Food was brought out to me in a matter of 5 minutes and was piping hot. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu as everyone else's food around me looked and smelled amazing. Don't think you can go wrong with anything on this menu. Only con I can possibly think of was the ambiance inside the restaurant was subpar (dry wall chipping, old tables, basic wall decor etc.), but that is asking for a bit much in a small town like Los Alamos. The only reason i mention this is because i did see another yelper call this out and yeah, it was pretty noticeable. Hands down five star. The noodles are legit home made noodles, chewy and filling. The soy bean paste are seasoned and fried to perfection. Got the steamed baozi which has some signature Chinese veggie fillings. And oh I just love the boiled dumplings, love the homemade wrappers as well as the fillings. I really do hope they can have some small salad like dishes in the future, say smashes cucumbers or garlic steamed eggplant or kimchi. Then I would want to come here everyday as it just tast like home. Congee would be good too with the steamed Baozi. read more

My wife and I tried Yuan's for a take away supper. Beef noodle soup and vegetable spring rolls. We took it to the Tub to meet with friends and have a beer. Food was well prepared, the soup was hot and the noodles are packaged in their own container. The manager at the counter was very helpful when we needed to decide. The food was ready on time and packaged for travel. The beef broth was too salty for my taste, but everything was delicious. Highly recommend this place. Good value for the money. read more

This is a great place for lunch in Los Alamos. I come Their menu is limited but what they have is great--my favorite thing is the vegetarian bao but I've also enjoyed the fresh spring rolls and vegetarian noodles. I also like the hot tea (though beverage selection is also limited). Sometimes lunch goes a little slow (they do table service) but that's ok because it's a friendly local place in Los Alamos where you're happy to linger. read more

Holey moley, there is a lot to unpack here. Los Alamos is not a foodie town. We all know this and accept it. It's fine. That said - we get a remarkably cosmopolitan group of people travelling and living in LA. We can do better, guys! We went to Yuan's for a farewell lunch with some students. The menu is teeny weeny! We ordered the fried/steamed variety of each dumpling, a bibimbap, and a beef soup. Pretty basic fare, and I would have expected the bill to be about $10/person. Noooooope! This was clearly going to come out to $60+ bucks. Oh well, it's a farewell lunch, and the place is supposed to be good. As we got there, the "to-go" line got longer and longer. However, they were also clearly handling the to go orders first! That's a no-no, guys, we've got work to do and (obviously) are here for a workday lunch, just like everyone else. Finally, the dumpling and other foods arrive. The dumplings were indistinguishable from Trader Joe's frozen dumplings- except that TJ charges $2.99 for about 25 of them, and this was about $8 bucks for six or eight. Noooooooope again! The steamed buns were the same - just pre-frozen meh, priced about an order of magnitude high. The bibimpap, about $8 million once we added the admittedly delicious Asian sausage, was -fine-. The beef soup was extraordinarily bland and meh, and was also pricey. I'm sorry, Yuan, but if this is Los Alamos dimsum, I'll stick to frozen dumplings. I shan't be darkening the door of this establishment again. read more

The typical fake Chinese buffet fare does not even compare! Generous portions, fresh veggies, familiar flavors and just about the best cheap Chinese food place ever! Really want to like this place since it is literally the only authentic Chinese place nearby, but the beef noodle soup I got had pretty much no flavor. Some pieces of beef were really tender but others were tough and hard to chew. The broth lacked flavor and I really had to put in a lot of chili oil (which thankfully they have). The noodles are pretty well done though, nice flat noodles with a decent amount of chew. Dumplings and baozi are pretty good. I personally prefer boiled, wrappers are very nice, well filled. Dumplings are overall pretty small. Baozi was pretty good fried. All in all the filling was juicy and satisfying. read more
