I was really hoping this was gonna be a 5 star experience, but it wasn't. Not terrible or anything there's just some issues people need to know about. Located inside the front of SF Supermarket, it's easy to find. English is sort of understood, but mostly I just pointed. What drew me to this place was the posted pic of the recent menu. It had pretty good prices! The prices are higher than what I thought they were gonna be and even what was currently posted. Due to the language barrier, I just let it slide. I pointed to 2 of the baked BBQ pork buns, supposed to be prices at $1.80 each, but looking at my receipt I got charged $3.00! The medium sized entre of the salt pepper fish was supposed to be $9.50 and I got charged $11.99! The whole duck price was supposed to be $24 but got charged $28! OK, still cheaper than 99 ranch at $32! but still .... Also there's a surcharge for credit card, so bring cash! As for the taste of the food, the pork buns were large I'll give it that and the filling decent, but the bread dough was dry and tasteless. The little egg custard tart was actually very good. The salt pepper fish was good, or so I was told by my friend. Now, this roast duck, was not a good roast duck example. Very little meat and I watched the lady chop it up like in 90 seconds, WHAM,WHAM, WHAM! Trouble is, that chopping made all the bones into sharp splinters. Pain to eat! This duck was not worth it, these better duck elsewhere. Oh well, I was hoping for better, plus the overcharging on the prices, I'll skip coming here again. Win some lose some! read more

Service was great, but the price was not well listed and everything seems to be overly priced for such a shitty coexistent in a supermarket. I order the usual three per servings and the end up charging me per bun, so make sure you ask all the price upfront before they bring it to the cashier line. read more

If I could give this place a zero star I would. I ordered a large tray of the salt and pepper deep fried shrimp and 2 lbs of the crispy pork belly. When we got home to eat, The shrimp was already smelling bad like it has been out all day. Granted I did pick up the shrimp around 6pm but one would think that the restaurant would discard food after so many hours to keep the food fresh. I asked for two pounds of pork belly and she gave me almost three pounds and charged me accordingly and said she cut too much and couldn't uncut it. We paid for it and went on our way. Food quality was bad. It was old food. The food was delicious, flavorful, and fresh. There dim sums, peking duck, and Chinese barbeque pork are the most popular. It is very authentic. All the staff were attentive and friendly. I gave Yum Cha Cafe a called and placed an order over the phone. Placed a $50 deposit over the phone and paid the rest at the store. Our order was on time and ready for pick up when we got there. The whole roast pork was really great. The skin is super crispy and seasoning was evenly flavored. Cash only. Roast duck, roast pork, soy sauce chix. Usual suspects. A duck is near 20 bones now. When I moved to Sac in 2000 they were like 6.99. Lol. Times and inflation. Duck was ok. Sauce given is not as good as some. The duck had big pieces but kinda dry. Maybe they needed to cook them longer. Good duck should be moist and meat glistening with slight oil and dark brownish color. We used to come to this place often inside SF supermarket early 2000s cuz they were one of the few we found then. Now living here on my 20th year (worst due to Covid), we have found way more joints of all kinds of food and go-tos also. They have the combo plates and were serving those up long ago with lines. Now they kinda blocked the hot case area with chairs up and a security guy and a buddy sitting at a table. Weird. The roasted pork was really good, me and my family really enjoyed the food served, although the front desk people don't speak fluent English they tried hard to accompany and understand what I needed. The sauce for the shrimp balls was nasty. I had to spit it out. It was truly nasty. The shrimp ball itself wasn't good at all. From the texture to the taste itself. I ordered the steam egg custard buns. They had to make them so I waited, but I noticed there was 1 bun sticking out and the lady grabs that one and place it back in the steamer. This has to be some type of code violation for placing buns from the front counter back into the steamer in the back. I could clearly see the back. I'm quite sure she gave me one of the old buns. Come here during lunch for the cheap hot food. Lunch time is when they are busy and the food is more fresh (not sitting dried out under the heat lamp). Less than $6 for a generous 2 item + rice or noodle side combo box. You can split the food up at least for 2 meals, cheaper than what you'd get at McDonalds these days! I also ordered a cake from here and I was pleasantly surprised that it looked and tasted great! I was debating between getting one from here or Pegasus across the street, but I took the gamble here since it's slightly cheaper. Service is blunt and not so great, but it is what it is. ROASTED PIG IS NOT AS ADVERTISED! DO NOT RECOMMEND! Extremely disappointing experience here at Yum Cha Cafe. I ordered the Roasted Pig for my 50th wedding anniversary luau- themed party. I saw the picture on the website of what the roasted pig looked like -- meaty, large, and you could clearly see in the photo online that it's a whole pig. Let me tell you, what I received and what was advertised (not only online on their website but also at the cafe) were two VERY different things. The pig they gave me had the ENTIRE underbelly removed (the part where you "pull the pork" was completely gone. Missing. Cut out. All that was left was the outer part of the pig with the crispy skin. Hardly any meat. Thank goodness I had lots of appetizers otherwise there would have been no food to give my guests for such a special milestone anniversary party. I tried to not let it upset me on the day of the party but it was very upsetting. I really felt taken advantage of. The reason I'm writing this review is to hopefully help future people not experience the same disappointment I experienced. The hot foods for cater are affordable prices and they taste good as well. FYI, they no longer sell cakes.

They have asian fruit sponge cakes now!!! Yessss yayyyyy yassssss yazzzzz. If youre from Sac you know that there's only 2-3 other bakeries in Sacramento that bakes asian sponge cakes and let me tell you their service sucks ass ( go read their yelps for yourself ) . Yum Cha Cafe is the little hot foods area located to the right when you enter SF Supermarket (Stockton Blvd location). They have yummy boba drinks, deep fried shrimp (party trays), & now cakes. Yum Cha is your typical fast food dim sum place. They don't have the greatest dim sum, but you can get a fix at least. I find it worlds better than the dim sum in 99 Ranch. My kid likes the pigs in blankets and char siu bao, my boyfriend likes the shrimp balls and I usually order the BBQ pork rice noodle. I think those are each one order of three pieces for $1.69. Really what I like here is the mix fruit coconut drink. It isn't overly sweet (for a dessert type drink). I like the boba and bits of mixed jellies. The ladies who work here are another plus as they are efficient, helpful, and seem to have a smile for everyone. read more
